Day 2 Liver shrink
OregonTeacher replied to closer400's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you drink often. I have six full liquid meals per day and can have all the clear liquids I want. I am about to go to bed and it is the end of day five. Greek yogurt helps...SF jello or pudding gives your mouth something to do...drinking something hot tells your tummy it has more in it than it does. Sf hot cocoa or cider or bouillon/broth can help with that and you are not limited on the quantity. -
I am currently at the end of my 5th day of my full liquid diet. I have been having three Protein shakes per day, two servings of tomato Soup, and a yogurt. (3 meals and 3 snacks) so far it hasn't been bad at all. I "eat" every 2- 2.5 hours and drink in between. I have lost 5 lbs by this morning. I have two days of full liquids and then one of Clear Liquids only the day before my surgery. I would have been required to have two weeks full liquids, but I lost enough weight prior to now that they reduced it. Some surgeons require you to clean out your system the day before surgery by drinking a prescribe clean out concoction, but mine does not. Really, it hasn't been bad at all as long as you drink something often. Mid you wait too long between your "meals" it will be harder to keep control of your hunger and it is harder to get it back under control than it is to keep it in control. Good luck!

Depending on the sleep center where you are tested you may be able to do it at home. I did my first test with just a pulse oximetry machine at home. It was just a small thing that wrapped around my wrist and extended to cover one finger. Once that came back they determined that I should have further study. I also was able to do that one at home. I went to the sleep center where they taught me to hook myself up, which I did. It was nice because I was able to sleep on my own pillows in my own bed. It would be worth asking about if you do need to be tested.

Are there any classroom teachers on here?
OregonTeacher replied to OregonTeacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my liquid diet tomorrow and then have surgery on the 21st. I have a game plan and hope it works well for me. I have only told three people at school what surgery I am having so don't want it to be obvious that I am not eating. I usually lunch in my room anyway so am thinking it won't be a problem. -
In desperate need of positive thinking!

I called the surgeon's office when they opened this morning. Not sure what they are going to do/try, but I am sitting around waiting to hear. This...is..awful!!! So close, yet so far! -
In desperate need of positive thinking!
OregonTeacher posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been through the 10,000 mile check-up and taken care of all issues that needed taken care of. I have lost the required 5% and almost another 5%. I have gotten a date for surgery (April 21st) and insurance approval and I have leave from my teaching position and subs in place. So, you might ask, what is my problem...I take two medications twice a day to control my heart rhythms and rate. (I have been on one for 31 years and had to add the second in December). For surgery, the surgeon will take me off all meds for two full days UNLESS my cardiologist writes orders for IV medication and sends it to my surgeon. On Monday I called my cardiologist, as directed by my surgeon, to ask about this. It took four days to finally get a call back!!! He is refusing to do anything unless my surgeon calls him directly. I am dealing with two strong minded, stubborn doctors and I think I am the one who is going to get hurt in the deal. I can't go two days without meds and not feel awful and be scared of my heart rate, etc. I feel like my surgeon will not call my cardiologist...I feel like I am losing what I currently want the most in the world! I may just have to call off my surgery or postpone it until I can get a new bariatric ally cardiologist...this sucks! -
I was reading someone's post today talking about this problem. They said they had tried eating something small when they woke to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Worth a try at least.

Two days out.

[quote name="Lakelandgirl" post="3799309 , OregonTeacher so far so good. Where are you in the process? Have a wonderful day. I am just waiting for my day to come. My surgery is on the 21st and I start my liquid diet on the 13th. My pre-op appointment is tomorrow. I am starting to get a little nervous now that it is so close and real! I think reading about everyone else's struggles has a good and bad side. Good because I/we can all know what we might expect, but bad because we know what we are facing. -
Didn't know that could be done...dislike that option Amylbrannon@msn.com

Unjury: do they HAVE to be frozen?

More like drinks unless you were to blend it with ice or freeze it after mixing. -
Unjury: do they HAVE to be frozen?
OregonTeacher replied to meyouus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never frozen one. I bought a couple shakers cups and just use them. I do, however, put ice in the cups with my protein and milk/water because I like it colder. -
Hello, Everyone! My date is April 21st and at 7:30a.m. I am also 5' 5" tall. Seems to be quite a common height on here ☺️ My highest weight was 298 and as of today I am down to 273. I am quite happy about it because due to the weight lost beyond 5% I only have to do 8 days of full liquid diet and one day of Clear liquids the day before surgery. My surgeons office sent my paperwork to my insurance on the 20th so now I just sit (or walk) and wait to find out whether they are going to authorize this or not. I am terrified they won't approve me right away and I will have to fight them. I already have leave approved and everything in place. I am so happy to have the people here to talk with!

Hello! I am appreciative of finding a board for people in their 40s. It seems that many WLS people are much younger than I am. They are fine people, but I am always curious how people around my age are handling the trip to surgery and after surgery. I have my surgery date, April 21st, and the expectation of getting out of the hospital on the 23rd, which is my birthday. Today I learned that I have lost enough weight that I don't have to do a full two weeks pre-op liquid diet, but instead I only have to do 8 days. That was a very nice surprise!!! I teach third and fourth grade am still trying to figure out how I am going to make the liquid diet work while I am at school...not to mention how I am going to handle eating at school when I go back to work. I am off for three weeks, but then will have five weeks left of school when I return. Only a few people at school know what kind of surgery I am having. I can just eat in my classroom, but eating at odd times may be a real challenge. Anyway, nice to find this board and people of a similar age! Good luck to everyone on your journeys!

One month out and vomiting!
OregonTeacher replied to NewMary83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It would be best if your surgeon had an after hours number you could call. It is best if we deal with someone who best knows our special needs. -
Hey there, Michelle! I am scheduled for the 21st, too. 28 days from today. It is starting to feel real finally!

A couple of days ago I came upon a thread, or a couple of them, in which members were sharing their Fitbit IDs so that we could all be friends and support each other's hard work. I cannot seem to find those again today and thought it might be nice for us to have a separate thread just for collecting new Fitbit friends. If you would like, add your email address below. Please feel free to add me. AmyLBrannon@msn.com
