    Hi from Ireland!

Hi all. I just have a quick question. My surgery date is fast approaching and I was wondering if I should enjoy myself while I can (ie food :wink2:) or should I try to start limiting what I eat now in preparation? Also, has anybody any words of wisdom? Things I'll need, what I should stock up on before the surgery etc? Cheers
  2. I have tried. Not as hard as I should have but a bit. If I had lots of willpower I wouldn't need the band! I have told 2 people about going for the band. My partner (he's coming with me) and my mom because she has to mind my daughter! I haven't told my sisters/friends or workmates. And for the very reason you described above. I've told work I'm have a hernia repair op. So when I come back the week after they won't be wondering why I'm sore.

    Hi from Ireland!

Don't panic over it Penny. I'm sure the decision to have the op was one you thought about long and hard so don't rush it now that you have your mind made up. You need to be 100% confident in the op, doctor and hospital you choose or you won't be happy going for the op and that will make it so much harder for you. Best of luck with your decision!
  4. Hiya. I have the same date as yourself. I also have the same fears but less so as I have had 2 surgeries (one general anesthetic and one spinal block). I am afraid of going to sleep and not waking up but it's such a small chance. I'd be more likely to be killed in a car accident. Or of a heart attack in 20 years! You know you need to do this and it will be worth it. The chance of a serious complication is so small you need to weigh it up and acknowledge the risk. But also decide whether that small risk is enough to put you off. Best of luck! I'm actually more excited than nervous. Can't wait for my new life to begin.

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi Penny, Not sure what to advise you. I was going to have the bypass over the band but was recommended to have the band as I am only 25 and pregnancy after a bypass is not recommended for a few years. Maybe you could try to get a second opinion from another surgeon. If you send your details to Dr. De Bruyne by email he will be able to advise what he feels is best for you (he persuaded me to go with the band over the bypass). Best of luck with your decision.

    Calling all February Bandsters!

Hi all. I'm Irish and have booked in for my op on feb 26th. Can't wait to get it over and done with. I'm really apprehensive and not sure what to expect. Telling work I have to get a cyst removed! Trying to keep the people who know to a minimum. I'm 25 with a 41 BMI and a 4 year old daughter.I was offered Valentines day as my op date but it is my daughters 5th birthday so I had to wait another week! Hoping to have more kids in the future and want to be in the best of health for it. Had post partum depression after having my daughter I piled on 6 stone (about 85 pounds) in 5 months. Have been trying ot lose it for 5 years and finally am financially able to afford the band (insurance in ireland won't cover the band full stop - you can't even get the procedure done here. I have to travel to Belgium) I'm sure it will be worth it and am being as optimistic as possible!!!!!!

    Hi from Ireland!

Well, I've decided to go for it. Have booked in for 26th Feb with Dr. Chris DeBruyne in Belgium. I emailed him and he advised to go for the banding over the bypass(even though he'd make more money on the bypass:clap2:) as I'm only 25 and hope to have more babies after. Also he has confirmed that he will be doing consultations and fills in Dublin from February!!!!! Good news for all us Irish gals!!:whoo:

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi all. I've finally managed to get the money together for the surgery but I'm now petrified about actually going through with it. I really want to but I'm so nervous..... I am undecided between Belgium and Manchester now that ACS are no longer doing it. I'm also undecided between the band and a bypass. I know this is a band forum so i hope nobody minds me asking why they opted for the band over the bypass when the bypass has a higher success rate. Thanks all. I've piled on a few pounds over Christmas and BMI is 41 which is the highest ever  All advice appreciated! :help:

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi all. I'm a newbie. Have been considering surgery for the longest time. I put on 6 stone in 5 months while suffering from post natal depression and cannot shift it. My appetite is huge. I work my ass off in the gym and lose a stone max, or I eat like a bird and am starving all the time. The most I've managed to lose was 2 stone and that was by really trying. Going to the gym 5 times a week and weight watchers. So as soon as I stopped losing the weight I gave it up and am now back to my original weight (just under 19 stone). I've been this weight for 5 years and want to enjoy my 20s seeing as I missed the first half by being fat. I don't go out anymore and am generally not happy in myself. On the other hand I have a partner who loves me and a daughter and I'm scared of something going wrong. I'm hoping to book the op after Christmas but I'm worried I'm going to regret it.
