  4. Hi all, I was banded in 2008 by an awesome surgeon in Pennsylvania (Dr. Schuricht at Pennsylvania Hopsital - I highly recommend if looking for a good doctor.) Anyway - I recently got engaged (YIPEE!) and will be relocating to Kennesaw, Georgia. I'm stumped on how to even go about finding a new doctor. Do doctors even take on patients who they didn't do the actual surgery on? If anyone has already gone through this and could give me advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Amy
  5. Hi...quick question...Was it a requirment for all of the ladies to get a pap smear done before surgery? I have PCOS but have not had a pap in a couple of years (don't ask.....and I know I need to get one soon). I am just trying to figure out if I need to make this appointment of I can get away with waiting until after the surgery. Thanks!

    Scared I Will Not Qualify

See...this is why I love this forum. Thank you to everyone who replied. It feels good to get support from people who know what I am going through. I know I was just being overly paranoid yesterday...I go through spurts where I think like that and then I get over it. You guys rock!!
  7. Hi everyone, I am in the beginning processes of getting approved. I don't think I will have any problems with my insurance. I have/am in the process of lining up all the various appointments such as cardiologist, pysch eval, etc. etc. etc. I am scared to death that for some reason I am not going to be approved. I have PCOS, and severly insulin resistant and have high blood pressure. People who have all of these things have gotten the lap band ( i have read about them on this site!!) but for some reason I am so scared they are going to find something wrong...I have major heart problems or cancer...something. I know this sounds completely irrational....believe me. But I have a friend at work who had to get some pre-op tests for a minor surgery she was having and they ended up finding she had cancer....and she didn't even feel sick. Have any of you ever heard of anyone getting turned down because they are not healthy enough? Again, I know this sounds totally not rational and I hope you do not think I am crazy but I think my nerves are just getting the better or me. Thanks for listening!

    Deciding

Good morning, My question is, how did all of you decide on a doctor? I am fortunate enough to have several doctors in my area that are very good (board certified, have done many procedures, good reviews by other people on this site, etc.) so how do I choose between them? Do I just see which one can take me sooner? I don't want to take the time to have a consultation with all of them as that might take a while. I guess this is a good problem to have but I am just not sure which one to choose. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Hi everyone...Happy Thanksgiving! I know there is probably a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it so I thought I would just ask. Can anyone recommend a doctor in the Philadelphia area that does Lap Band surgery? My doctor recommended a Dr. Meiluhn at Temple University? Has anyone has any experiences with him? Do you have any other doctors to recommend? My PCP (unbelievably) did not have anyone to recommend and suggested coming on this site and asking for suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Pcos

Hi everybody, I am new to this site and have a million questions. My first is, has anyone on here been diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)? I was diagnosed about 2 1/2 years ago and am having a lot of problems controlling my weight. My insulin resistance keeps getting worse and worse so I have seriously been considering getting the lap band done. I am just wondering if it possible that the lap band won't work on people with PCOS. I guess I am so used to medications, etc.. not working that it is hard for me to believe something actually will. I have an appt. with my pcp next week to look into this further but wanted to check on this board to see if anyone has PCOS and had the lap band procedure. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
