I'm doubting if I want the surgery...
Stinab64 replied to Big Opie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ok, so the first advice I would give you... is seek out another surgeon. You must be really comfortable with your surgeon, his skills, his reputation etc. I wouldn't want someone I voluntarily asked to work on me that I didn't trust. You need to find out which surgery is actually BEST for you... and not one you choose! I had a choice.. but I chose the RNY... it was better for ME. Good luck on your journey. Hit up a support group... others can help you through this! -
Meralgia Paresthetica - anyone else experienced this complication? Help!
Stinab64 replied to wicked's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had this problem directly after surgery for about 3 months... and I still have a slight numbing to this day...it's been just over 6 months... My Dr. told me it was because of the way and force he has to strap you down for surgery ... that most likely its nerves that were pinched. HOpefully...it'll be gone soon.. but you are right... it was very bothersome at first...and pain meds did not take care of it! GOod luck! -

I'm hoping some hairdressers will reply.... but I've been told by a lot of hair people that Pantene is one of the worst shampoos you can use. I only use salon products...currently I'm using Paul Mitchell. Your milage may very... but I'm just past three months.. and I haven't noticed significant hair loss or breakage.... Good luck! Premier protein can add 30 grams. I'm 11 weeks out and still drink one for breakfast.

I need help - very slow loss - what to eat? Thyroid?
Stinab64 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I need some help! I have been struggling since I've had surgery on November 4th. I have "only" lost about 30lbs since surgery but 50 overall (2 week liquid diet before surgery). As you can see I lost more on the liquid than I did after surgery. I have hypo thyroid as well. But listen - I weigh over 300lbs at 5'7". I should be dropping fast...I should be down at least 60 or so pounds...or more. Some of you, I look at your stats and go...OMG how come I'm not like that. I know I've lost inches.. I know I have... I'm looking better every day....clothing fits differently nearly every day. BUT it isn't the same. I want the pounds gone. I want to be under 300 by January 1 (my birthday) and that isn't going to happen in two days. I've never had a big dramatic loss, simply just pounds...then I hold for days. I wasn't eating enough calories for a long time - so between me and the NUT we increased... and it is still not working. I'm getting in my Protein and Water... those are my goals for every day...protein and water. BUT I'm not losing. I'm so frustrated...sad and pissed off. What am I doing wrong????? What is a good menu to stick to ???? I know I eat too fast... and probably don't chew my food small enough. I'm seriously thinking I broke my RNY. Can anyone give me some constructive ideas? I don't eat junk (ok, I did once but I won't do that again). I eat healthy meat, yogurt. I rarely have veggies...just eat protein. I'm so sad.... does anyone have any good thoughts for me? i knew what you meant! ????. I do look at labels etc. I'm allowed up to 120 carbs but I stay in the 70 to 90 range. I listening to everyone tell me not to worry. So trying my best. It'll come off. Eventually. -

Well a lot more than I am. I'd like to have those big drops that others have instead of staying the same weight for two weeks. I am 300lbs. at 600 calories a day it should be falling off!!! -

I have spoken with her...my lab results were "normal" before my surgery. I just wonder if they've changed... the meds I'm on are supposed to help. I'll have labs done soon...so we'll figure it out. I am just frustrated because I just don't seem to be losing like others... and I need to let that go! I'm worried that I broke my pouch... because some days I seem to be able to eat more than others... I have no problem getting down a 1/2 cup (dry) oatmeal...so when it is cooked, isn't it like a cup? Then other days, two bits of salmon will HURT! I know somebody said in this thread they didn't believe in eating more to lose... I'm just so confused by it all. Thanks for listening! -

Thanks to everyone for contributing to this thread! It helps for me to hear some positive things about not worrying because I see others stats... and mine are just terrible comparably. I know we aren't supposed to compare... but it is hard when you see someone who has had surgery 9 weeks ago (like me) down like 70lbs.... from SURGERY weight and not just surgery plus 2 week liquid ... I struggle with eating. I do know that I do everything I can to get my Protein and Water in. I work hard on that. If I don't think I'm going to get my protein in by food...then I just drink a Protein Drink.... Lately, I've been having a protein drink for Breakfast... seems to help! Someone shared this app with me...Baratric Timer! It has been super helpful with regards to water! Now, if I could find one for the Vitamins. I am forgetting to take them!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again! -

I do use MyFitnessPal! Religiously ... every day. I may not record everything - because - for example - last night I made a Pasta sauce with ground turkey. I threw in some matchstick carrots and some tri colored peppers. I didn't measure those... I just need to know that I'm losing!!!!!!! And stop concentrating on the fact that it is slooooowwwwww :-) -

I take the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins, Calcium and Iron. I have had a second shot of B12....so I'm good I think! :-) The whole Vitamin thing scares me a bit....I know for now I'm taking the right stuff...but if I switch to "over the counter" I need to know I'm taking the "right stuff". :-) -

Thanks for writing! I get an average of 70g's of Protein in a day. Some days are less, most days are more. I also went from 64 oz to 80oz. I will admit....I do my darndest to get the 64 in...and bonus is 80!!! I eat low calorie, low carb, high protein about 5 times a day....ok...let's be real....I don't eat 5 times a day...I'm lucky if I eat three! Just bummed... and complaining...and I know I shouldn't! It didn't take 8 weeks to put it on, why should I think it'll take 8 weeks to take it off! Happy New Year! -
I stalled beginning of week 5 - I lost three lbs and then remained stalled now...I've been told to up my calories because I'm not eating enough. At 312 lbs I should be losing more weight...fast... and it isn't coming off... its got me terribly bummed out. So I feel your pain!

4months post op at a standstill super confused. Feeling like a failure
Stinab64 replied to NurseRosemary's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My Nut has had to tell me twice now to up my calories because I am not losing! I was doing 300 - 500 ... and then 600-800 and still no loss. Now I am to max out at 1100 and hopefully I'll see the scales move. At my weight....it should be moving WITHOUT exercise... so I have to get it moving and then kick my butt in exercise...which I hate... so that's going to be difficult. So...for anyone who says we have "taken the easy way out"..... they can just.... hmmmmmmmmmmm -
You know, it is funny! I had surgery in November and I had the same easy experience...but I had NO gas trouble at all until about the second week. It manifested itself after I ate...and then I was throwing up the pain was so bad. Then....I was done! :-) It is so good that we can share all these experiences... Congrats to all. Now I just have to increase my calories so I can start losing again!!!!!! Christina

6 weeks out and feel like I can eat like a normal person! Ugh!
Stinab64 replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think I'm in this boat as well. I know I can eat more than a 1/2 cup. I'm getting really frustrated because I don't WANT to over eat. I just do. I know I'm very good about what types of foods I'm attempting to eat. Like Saturday I know I had too many rich foods... too many oils exactly. I felt it on Sunday. But right now for lunch, I had more than my fill of zucchini Pasta... basically raw zucchini and turkey meat sauce. I'm uncomfortable now..gassy...but not horribly so... I don't know when I'm full. I'm scared at 5 weeks out I've already ruined my pouch. I really am! -

I have a question about cold medicine... and since I can't seem to start my own topic - I thought i'd add it to this topic. I think I'm coming down with something. The Post Nasal drip is killing me... and I'm coughing it up... I don't want it to irritate my new tummy. I had the RNY on 11/04. My throat is sore etc. Can I take Tylenol Cold and Sinus? What do you all take for when you aren't feeling up to par? I have taken liquid tylenol (childrens) .. and I hate the way it makes my tummy feel. Thanks for any help! -
It's great to hear others stories! Thanks for sharing....

Geez - I'd kill to have lost 70lbs in less than 9 weeks. I had surgery on 11/04 and since surgery I've lost 17 lbs. I weigh 317 lbs.... It is scary ... and I can't figure it out. My first plateau started on the third week...and this is the 5th... and I've only lost a 1lb this week! I'm eating roughly 800 calories - and drinking at least 64oz of Water. I feel like I can eat more at each meal...and I also feel like I'm hungry all the time....ok not all the time...but a lot of the time. I'm so frustrated!

Hi Joan! Sorry it's taken me a couple of days to respond! My weight loss got stuck for two WHOLE weeks after surgery...like I was losing every day and then all of a sudden it stopped my third week. It moved again this week, but only by two pounds. Certainly not enough for me at this weight (317). I haven't had the throwing up since then...but I just don't feel like I'm losing fast enough... since this is supposed to be the "honeymoon" stage. Grr.
