Hi--Just curious if anyone had surgery in NY with GHI (I beleive I have the GHI PPO) and get approved? I had called them back in Nov. and they stated that they would cover it; I called them again today, and they said they cover gastric bypass but not that the lap band is coming up as a non-coverable code. They told me to get my PCP to contact them for pre certification and that they might consider it on a case by case basis. I feel like I am getting the run around. I am planning on getting my surgery at NYU and just went to their info session on Jan. 22nd. Anyway, any advice is appreciated. Thanks everyone!! AMY :rolleyes2:

I think you would feel it if it was stuck...I am sure you will be fine....can you drink? or eat?
-
Sue--just curious...is your insurance covering this?? Good luck
-
I didn't feel restriction till my 5th fill!! If you are feeling discouraged, I say try and move your appt up a bit!! Good luck
-
I didn't get anything stuck until 5 months out when I finally felt real restriction!

I had some numbness in my upper left thigh too, but it would come and go, and went away completely since I have lost weight...I had this before my lapband surgery...very weird....it used to worry me a lot....but it's gone now!!!!

Dealing with this Restriction thing....

try smaller bites and more time in between bites...it is hard, I sometimes have to get up and do things after a few bites, just so I won't take another bite!! I get up and do the dishes or some paperwork, etc. then come back and take a couple more bites..... -

What is your diet like? Do you take a vitamin? Sorry you are feeling this way!! The only time I ever feel dizzy is if I haven't eaten enough.... -
Discrimination / social marginalization
kkarryall replied to edub's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have felt in the past that I was turned down for certain jobs due to my weight, also felt discriminated against as a customer in stores...I do not feel that way anymore...there is definitely discrimination against fat people... -
Do you only eat three meals a day?
kkarryall replied to lauragshsu's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I eat two meals per day with 2 snacks usually, plus an iced coffee -
Fellow lap-banders!! I need your HONEST opinion.

Just do it -
Honestly, it was the easiest recovery for me...felt totally normal 4 days out..only took two doses of pain meds. Was back to work in a week, and I work with special needs children so it is not a sedentary job...

Does the lap band change your bowels?
kkarryall replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes it does...I got very constipated when I was very tight...now that I am at goal, I have loosened my band and bowels are back to normal thank goodness!! -
I cannot eat any food in the morning...or I will get stuck...many people are a lot tighter in the morning than at night...sounds like it might be the case for you. Maybe just drink a shake in the am?
-
fat free refried beans..i love them....you can add some low fat sour cream and cheese melted in!! Good source of protein...also love the idea of homemade blackbean soup...I will have to try it
-
And the great thing about the band is that it is gradual!! So it you will be able to eat less food, but only a little less than before...and then the next fill a little less than that. And then, what I am doing now...although I know a lot of people don't do this...but since I am at goal, I have been getting small UNFILLS each month. I want to use my head more and my band less....it is very hard! But I have been maintaining since January....so far so good! Your feelings are totally normal

Dealing with skin, body issues...
kkarryall replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have lost 140 lbs and I definitely need a tummy tuck. I wear a size 4, but would NEVER wear a bikini!! I am scheduled for my tummy tuck on August 18th. Insurance claimed they would cover it after I jumped through a milliion hoops...now they claim they will give me about $2000 towards it, which will mean I will have to come up with about $10,000. But it is worth it to me....I have a lot of other things I would like to have done...inner thigh lift, breast lift, and brachioplasty...but the TT is my main concern...the other things will have to wait and insurance will not pay for them -
defintely looking at before/current pics of yourself will help!! But for me, I am such an all or nothing person, I didn't honestly start seeing a difference till I was about 20-30 lbs to goal!! And I have lost 140 lbs!! So it is bizarre. Now people are so shocked when they see me...but when I look in the mirror I am not shocked at all....I just look normal to me. I never identified with being fat, even though I was overweight my whole life....weird!!!

first fill pressure....

Your time of the month can also make you feel tighter, so that is normal! -
I drink beer, but my surgeon told me that was ok!!

My esophagus hurts so bad!!!
kkarryall replied to thall04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it depends....if it is heartburn or not....you really need to see the doc...it could be that your esophagus is swollen or stretched. You really need to get an esophogram. -
I am at goal and I have been getting unfills...4 unfills so far. Mainly because I want to be able to eat more types of food, and try to maintain by using less of my lapband, and more of my brain. So far, so good. Been maintaining since January. I won't say it's easy.....

No I have really never experienced nausea. Just a pain if I am stuck...best to call your Dr.
