I am not sure if green bean casserole qualifies as mushie....not sure about stuffing either, although if you mush it with enought gravy!! Also, pumpkin pie--no crust. Good luck!!!

Where are you located in NYC? My PCP is in the Bronx and would def. write you a letter...PM me if you're interested.
-
I agree...go to NYU. I am very happy with them!

Maybe you need a fill...that always motivates me when I have little or no motivation on my own. I am fairly tight myself...which I hate!! But, I am willing to tolerate till I get to goal. I probably eat around 1000 cals per day and I do exercise about 4 days per week. Good luck and keep us updated.

Youc an eat carbs in moderation. It is all about how tight your band is, and each individual person is different. You are supposed to eat proteins first and vegetables as tolerated. I try to do that. I also eat desserts. Because I love desserts. It's all about moderation. I have had no prob with my energy level.

Teen who has unsupportive family.
kkarryall replied to katie_marie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe you can get your family to come to a support group for people who have had the surgery. I go to a support group once per month. If your family is not open to this, and you are set on having the surgery than you will just have to go forward with it. Are you seeing a therapist? That may help with giving you ideas on how to get your family more involved. I can tell you this is the hardest thing I have ever done. Good luck. -
Yes I definitely have...in fact I had a difficult weekend...but usually I give myself a bit of time, psych myself up, and do a few things to get myself back on track--like making a grocery list of healthful foods, planning a menu for the week, and making a plan to work out. Good luck :wink2: You can get back on track!

Mushy diet- help bandsters!
kkarryall replied to Bjsfinley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my fave was fat free refried beans, salsa, with a little melted cheese....mmmmm..... -
I do not spend a lot of time on boats, but I have been on boats before/after lapband. Was never seasick before, and never after. The only time I get sick is when something gets stuck or I don't chew well enough.

You really must go back to your doctor. There are a bunch of reasons why you might not be losing as much weight as you should be. They should do an esophogram to rule out slippage, erosion, etc. Maybe a teeny tiny unfill will help. Are you sticking to the rules...protein first, small bites, chew really well? Keep us updated on how you are doing!

I guess everyone is different. I don't really PB...I throw up though...not fun, but it happens.

I am at a pretty tight restriction lately and have been struggling to get in my Protein. Anyway, I made the most delicious tuna salad and thought I would share. One can of tuna drained. Ran through the food processer to make it a finer consistency. Add 1/4 cup minced onions, and 6 olices minced (I used Goya jarred green olives). Add 3 drops Tabasco sauce and a squirt of fresh lemon juice. Mix with several tablespoons hellmans mayonaise. Add salt and pepper. That's it. This was much easier for me to eat after I ran it through the food processer.
-
Thanks for the tip...thankfully I have excellent restriction, so I only eat small amounts! Oh and I would only use 2 tb of mayo for just one can of tuna. But not sure about your calorie info... 1 can chunk white Bumblebee tuna = 160 cals 2 tbs hellmans mayo= 180 cals 1/4 cup onion=16 cals 6 Goya green olives=36 cals tabasco/lemon juice/salt/pepper...=practically 0 cals :w00t: Grand total=392 cals for total recipe. But for me, I would be lucky to be able to eat 1/2 cup!!

What negative physical symptoms do you experience
kkarryall replied to comtemplating's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do experience negative symptoms from eating certain foods. For example, if I took one bite of that subway sub I would have my head in the toilet for awhile! It depends upon the restriction you have. Before I got restriction--about 1-5 months after banding--I could def. eat that with NO PROBS. Thank God, I now have the restriction!! -
Food Network is not a real life
kkarryall replied to AbbeMac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is a funny topic because I never watched food network before being banded...once in awhile, that's it. Now that I have lost about 120 lbs, I am obsessed with food network and cooking!! I have transferred my obsession with eating food, to just watching it and cooking it. Very weird. -
Seminar tomorrow....what next?
kkarryall replied to pbair's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Insurance usually covers over 40 BMI. Some insurance comps. require a 6 month medically supervised diet and then you can get the surgery. They will give you lots of info at the seminar..... good luck!! -
I think the most important thing is to tell her that you don't care what she weighs...BUT that you want her to be around for a long time and that you know her being overweight could cause major health problems. Also, remember if you are expecting health insurance to pay for it, they usually require a 6 month medically supervised diet. So she could start the diet with her primary Dr. and still have 6 months to make the decision if it is something she is interested in. GOOD LUCK!!

Taking fill out to check amount no longer ecommended.
kkarryall replied to elcee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc has never removed any fluid to check the fill level...I have never had any probs with my fills....thank GOD. -
Personally, I was too tight for awhile, and tolerated it just because I was so thrilled with the weightloss!! But lately I have been going crazy because I just can't eat that much and have been leaning toward slider foods, so I went in today and got .1 cc taken out. He said if it's too much to come in and he will put .05cc back in.....so i will just have to wait and see I guess...I am in an exploration phase right now. Good luck to you...

Thinking about the lap band....
kkarryall replied to Asphalt Angel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Personally, I was afraid of what would happen if I didn't lose the weight for good!!! My dad died of a heart attack at age 47, and he wasn't even obese, like I was!! I had gained and lost, and gained and lost...and finally, I got sick of it!! I can't say it has been an easy journey...but I did it and I have no regrets. I have lost about 120 lbs...30 more to go to get to my goal weight! Good luck in making your decision! -
1 month after surgery - what can I expect??
kkarryall replied to jmh3412's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am guess that what you are feeling while lying down is not the band, but the port...that is normal, I can feel mine too, when I am in certain positions. Good luck!! -
Banded 9/23 No restriction....Is this normal?
kkarryall replied to pookiemp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They call this part of your journey "bandster hell". You can do a search for it on here. It is called that because you have no restriction and you may not have restriction for up to 5 months, depending upon how aggressive your Dr. is with fills. I didn't feel restriction till about 5 months. It was hard for me to lose the weight until I did reach proper restriction...but i still lost 50-ish pounds the first 6 months. GOOD LUCK! -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Don't Want to Lose This War!
kkarryall replied to susan200012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi!! I was also banded at NYU--but by Dr. Fielding. Just wondering how much of a fill you have? Because that could def. get you back on track. What kinds of foods are eating when you talk about your emotional eating? Good luck to you...and you CAN get back on track!!
