    VSG and marathons.

Just came across this topic... I was sleeved in January of this year. I am in mid training for a October Marathon... my first since 99. Curious to see how others are handling nutrition with their training. Particularly balancing carbs and Protein as well as prerun, mid run and post run nutrition. Thanks!
  2. I was sleeved in early January and am currently 90lbs down. I was a distance runner in the late 90's prior to getting lazy and adding on 100+ lbs of excess weight. I know that getting back into running will help me continue on a positive lifestyle change. As a distance runner 15 years ago carbohydrates were my fuel of choice for running. Many runners rely on carbs for fuel while training high miles. Wanting to run my first marathon since 1998 this fall now that my weight and lifestyle are coming into a good place... wondering if there are any runners out there that can share their experiences with proper (post sleeve) nutrition while putting in some serious miles (40-50 miles and up a week).
  3. I'm 4 months and and 87 lbs down (Jan 8 surgery). Glad to see some of the restaurant suggestions here. Eating out certainly presents some new challenges. "What would you like to drink" "Umm... nothing I can't drink when I eat" I've been sticking to pure Protein (chicken and fish when I go out) and Soups when I come across something good. The most surprising thing for me is I really have no desire for any bread, potato or Pasta. Carbs were huge for me before surgery and not so much now. Curious how everyone does with tracking Water and protein intake for the day?
  4. I use Optimum Nutrition 100% whey. It is one of the top rated Protein powders you can buy. I mix in a heaping scoop of Vanilla with 8oz of Skim Milk. Occasionally I add some crystal light to change up the flavors. This is has been very good and each serving with milk is about 31-32 grams of protein.
  5. I am a few days into a 3 week pureed stage... and per my DR and Nutritionist... everything must be pureed (no chucks or pieces, has to be smooth). Be creative with healthy foods... a few that I have tried already Jennie-O Ground Turkey, Low Fat Ricotta cheese, Skim Milk, Salt and Pepper Imitation Crab meat, Ricotta, Milk, Spinach Egg White, Fat Free Cheddar These all tasted much better than expected... especially after several weeks of sweet Protein shakes and crystal light.
  6. I'm day 2 of recovery... Only issue I have is the occasional blast of pressure and gas in my stomach... Any suggestions for coping with. Had surgery on Jan 8th. Thanks!
  7. I have a scheduled surgery for early January. Curious how long everyone was down for. Surgery is on a Thursday for me and was thinking that with a deskjob I could try and head back to work the next Wednesday (6 days recovery). Looking for thoughts and advice... what was worst part of recovery (being tired, pain, feeling ill?)
