Hello!
I have been on a WLS adventure since June 2014. I am so excited yet at the same time nervous and a bit scared. I never thought I needed WLS and it was never an option for me. I've been heavy yet athletic for most of my life. I had reached what I thought was my highest weight of 262 lbs in 2009 but after loosing almost 100 lbs, I was only able to keep it off for a year and have re-gained the weight plus an additional 20 lbs. I used to be an active triathlete, racing ever other weekend and running all the time. I've neglected my health and my eating has become irresponsible. I don't have hypertension nor am I diabetic, but my father is. I am the only obese person in my family and have hypothyroidism and asthma. Being a nurse, I have the knowledge of what I need to do to lose weight, but it's been such a struggle in so many aspects. I'm ready to make a change and enjoy life and all it has to offer.
I have been seeing the nutritionist for six months (it's part of my insurance's requirement), and have completed all of my medical, cardiac, and pulmonary clearances. My surgery is scheduled for December 17Th, 2014, pending insurance approval which I should receive any day now. This journey to making the decision of getting WLS, the six months of waiting, the stresses of everyday life (home, work, school), has been more than I anticipated but I do see a light and I am so eager to start the next chapter of my life.
I have recently been accepted to graduate school (Doctorate in Pharmacy), got my braces off, and now ready to get my health and weight under control. I signed for a triathlon and cannot wait to be able to swim, bike, run, and cross that finish line!
