I am nearing my 1 year anniversary, and met my goal weight 2 months ago. I had a lot of stalls along the way, all of which I thought were the end of the world. But every time my weight loss started again. Every time! You have nothing to worry about, except of course following your diet. Keep up the good work, you have got this!

The gas is completely normal. Chewable Gas-X was my best friend for at least the first 3 months post op. It will get better!

I take Twinlab bariatric vitamins that I buy from Amazon or Swanson Vitamins, depending on where they are cheaper at the time and what else I am ordering. They have worked fine for me throughout my first year, and they cost about 20 cents each. I'm on my last bottle and then I get to switch to regular vitamins again. YAY!

Post-op day 2 and regretting
SuperDave replied to Ashley1213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You WILL feel better in a couple of days. I felt the same 2 days out. I barely remember it all now, 8 months and 100 pounds later. Hang in there, you got this! -
Protein Shakes - milk or water?
SuperDave replied to Beachsprite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if this is an option for you, but I always use unsweetened almond milk in my Protein shakes. It actually adds a bit of flavor and substance, and has fewer calories than milk. -
Sounds like all the right reasons! Best of luck!

AM I DOING IT RIGHT?
SuperDave replied to sa111antha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing fine. It is just a temporary stall. Your body is saying "WTF did you do to me!?" It happens to EVERYONE! (Okay, I don't need to hear from the 2 people that it didn't happen to! ) Just stick to your doctors instructions and it will be over before you know it. Really. I promise! On another note, you will go insane in the next year if you weigh yourself every day. There will be days you lose, days you gain and days you stay the same. I try to only weigh once a week..It is hard sometimes, but my sanity is worth it! No worries, you have got this! -
Pouring your Protein drink over ice helps with the foam. Plus, keeping it cold makes it taste better while you choke it down.

Definitely, honesty is the best policy. You have nothing to worry about. I was nervous as well, but it was not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. I answered a bunch of multiple choice questions, like 250 I believe, and then the psychologist asked me a few questions based on some of my answers. We talked about my health concerns and goals. She asked about family and friends and what kind of support I had. She wanted to know what I had been doing to prepare for the huge changes ahead. That was all. Just keep in mind, they are there to help you, not slow you down. Just relax, you have got this!

What We Don't Want To Hear

If only there was a surgery for that! -
Best piece of advice you have! I'm a day away from Gastric Sleeve surgery.
SuperDave replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The one thing I wish someone told me before surgery is that it hurts. I woke up in the post op recovery room and had a few choice words to say about the amount of pain I was experiencing. Fortunately I had a VERY understanding nurse nearby who took great care of me. (Nurses are the best!) I know this is not advice, but it is something I wish I had known going in. On a more positive note, the pain passes quickly and it is just a vague memory at this point. Best of luck on your surgery! -
According to my surgeon sleep apnea is a reason to have surgery, not a reason to deny it. It was listed as a co-morbidity on my insurance approval papers.

What We Don't Want To Hear
SuperDave replied to ProjectMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't believe the author meant that having bariatric surgery is all you have to do to lose weight. I think they were just saying that it can be very helpful. I lost 150 pounds on my own before surgery. I have lost 85 pounds since surgery. I can say with 100% confidence that it has been easier to lose weight post-op than it was before. In my mind, that makes it the easy way. -
So...you are 5 days post op and you have already given up on following your surgeon's advice? Good luck with that!

What We Don't Want To Hear
SuperDave replied to ProjectMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't find anything appalling in the article. Seems right on to me. Just my humble opinion. -
I was at the airport last week flying to Vegas with my wife for our anniversary. The TSA agent looked at my license, then at me, then double checked my license, then back to me again and said, "Wow! You look great! Awesome work!" It was really nice to hear from someone completely removed from the whole process. The fact the she was a rather attractive member of the opposite sex didn't hurt either!

I'm with you on this. I eat edamame for dinner at least 5 nights a week. I get them at costco in a 12 serving package for around $9. I never really get sick of them, because you can flavor them so many different ways. Sometimes I just do the sea salt. Sometimes I put Old Bay, Siracha, Italian dressing, roasted garlic, balsamic vinegar, or any combination of these. I even dip them in blue cheese dressing on occasion. It just depends on my mood that night. I also love the fact that they force you to eat slow without really thinking about it. It would actually be harder to eat them fast. Definitely a great addiction!

what type of scale do you use?
SuperDave replied to GenaW828's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To answer the original question, I use a digital scale I got at costco. It seems to be right on with the scale at the surgeons office. -
what type of scale do you use?
SuperDave replied to GenaW828's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your scale is probably fine. Your weight can vary every day. I would recommend weighing yourself less often. I try to stick to just once a week. Otherwise the ups and downs drive me crazy! -
In a couple weeks you won't even remember the pain. Hang in there! Congrats on the 10 pounds!

A thought from a guy perspective. I would rather be told you aren't "feeling it" (or whatever) than be strung along for however long while you decide. Don't waste both of our time. If you aren't comfortable with someone, get out.

Has anyone become single as a result of their weight loss surgery?
SuperDave replied to pinkbunies's topic in Singles Forum
If anything, losing weight has made my marriage better. But then, neither of us were extremely nutty or obsessively insecure to start. -
No, I would definitely not eat meat that has been out for 7 days. That is risky.
