Gym Supplements. Need a push
SuperDave replied to Ch@ss's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Losing weight and becoming healthier are more of an energy boost to me than anything I could take. Your body is undergoing some radical changes. Be patient and keep up the routine and you will get back to where you were without the need for an artificial boost. I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth! -
Telling the Family
SuperDave replied to penguino????'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! Keep in mind that you are doing this for you! While it is nice to have support, it really does not matter what anyone else thinks! -
My surgeon basically told me that all of these changes are for a year. After that you can relax on the rules a bit, as your body allows. Of course, the hope is that after a year you have developed healthy habits and are more in tune with what your body is telling you. Every Doctor and every person is different. Your mileage may vary!

Anyone heard of a "sock" procedure
SuperDave replied to smiley922's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A quick Google search came up with this: http://diabeteshealth.com/read/2008/10/20/5946/need-gastric-bypass-put-a-sock-in-it-the-endobarrier-gastrointestinal-liner/ Not exactly what you were describing, but interesting! This is also 6 years old, so I wonder what happened with the whole idea? -
Awesome story, thanks for sharing! And keep up the great work, for both you and your daughter!

I'm sorry you are going through this. From my perspective, it probably seems to him as though you signed up for a HUGE lifestyle change, but it has become a huge change for him as well. There is going to be resentment. It is a fact that divorce rate is higher post surgery, so I would assume it ends non-marital relationships as well. I can't tell you what to do, but I know from personal experience that your daughter is better off in a loving healthy environment with one parent than with two parents who want to kill each other. Good luck with all of this!

Protein powder help
SuperDave replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like the froth either. I normally throw it in the fridge for 10 minutes after blending to let it dissipate before drinking, or pour it over ice, which also helps kill the froth. -
That sounds really good! Stupid liquid diet!

As a "boy" myself, I would definitely say that I think us guys tend to have more of a "live until I die" attitude. We are invincible, if only in our own minds. Beating him over the head with your new healthier lifestyle will most likely just make him resentful of you. He most likely feels that this is not what he signed up for when he became your "house spouse." I can't tell you what to do, but speaking as a male, he is not likely to suddenly change how he feels about the situation. I guarantee you that if you have had thoughts of leaving, he has too. Good luck with all of this!

Excellent news! Keep up the good work!

Protein powder help
SuperDave replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a magic bullet blender, because I too hate the clumps! It works great for this application. You can do one cup at a time, drink it, give it a quick wash and it is ready to go next time. (I promise, I have no affiliation with the magic bullet company! Just sharing what works!) -
Same experience here. I was absolutely miserable waking up from surgery. It was much worse than I had expected. I'm even told I had a few not so nice things to say about the whole thing, though I don't remember! But, after 4-5 days I felt SO much better. After a week, it was almost as though it hadn't happened. Hang in there!

January 12, 2015 - Making way for a new me!

Congrats on getting a date! It is great that you and your husband are doing this together. You have a built in support group! Good luck with the surgery! -
Exhausted while on pre op liquids
SuperDave replied to kasumi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think what you are experiencing is absolutely normal. It is a huge change your body is experiencing. I was tired, grouchy, and had a headache for several days. It did get better, though. Get some rest and hang in there! Good luck with the surgery! -
Premier are my favorite pre-made, and I can get them at costco, which is a bonus for me. I sometimes mix my own just to have some variety. Truly though, I think they all suck! Of course, I'm not drinking them for the flavor!

To tell or not to tell...facing family this Thanksgiving
SuperDave replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I should add to that, I'm not saying my way is the right way. Just that it is the right way for me. -
To tell or not to tell...facing family this Thanksgiving
SuperDave replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I have read here, most people consider this a private matter and don't tell many others. I have been the opposite. I really don't care if someone knows I had weight loss surgery. It is what I felt was best for me, and that is that. Mind you, I'm not shouting in the streets or anything, but if asked, I tell. Reactions are mostly positive, but there are a few people in world who know everything about everything and know that I was wrong to do it. That's fine. This is about me, not them. Like I could give a #@*! what they think anyway! -
Having near panic attacks about my surgery on Tuesday! Would love some advice and experiences from you
SuperDave replied to kcsaab's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I definitely had the same thoughts. I lost 150 pounds pre-surgery, so I knew I could do it on my own. I finally came to the conclusion that the surgery would help me lose the last 100 quicker and help me keep it off. Staying at a healthy weight for life is my biggest motivator at this point. Good luck! -
+1 on the calories. That could be an issue. Definitely something to talk to your nutritionist about.
-
Soft food starts at week 4 for me, but I'll still be in pureed stage for Thanksgiving. That's okay, I'm not a big fan of turkey anyway!
-
I don't think you are too excited. That sort of enthusiasm will be great in helping you do what you need to do! Keep up the positive attitude!
-
So, make the most of the situation. Use the surgery to your advantage to lose the weight you want to lose. Then, slowly reintroduce other things back into your diet until you back to what you consider a normal lifestyle. A lot of people who have had this surgery still eat carbs, or whatever else they want. It's not the end of the world.

It is good stuff. A nice substitution for pasta! It is available at any grocery store or farmer's market around here. (AZ)

From approval to surgery was 3 weeks for me, but it could have been less. I was on vacation when I got the call. So, there is still hope for a December date. I know what you are saying with paying all of the out of pocket stuff again, I was afraid it was going to happen to me as well. Good luck!

That's why I always get completely naked before stepping on the scale at the doctor's office! Congrats on the weight loss, great work!
