  1. Definitely still have that taste in my mouth, especially when I wake up! It is disgusting! For what it's worth, my nutritionist said the same thing as yours. Protein first, then fill up with veggies or fruit. I really only eat veggies at dinner though, and then I have to force myself to do it. I'm just never hungry for them after the protein.
  2. @@Elode - I am in the same situation. The surgeon wants my calories and carbs higher than what they are right now, but I'm just not hungry! I also drink 2 Protein shakes a day, usually 1 Premier and 1 that I make at home, and a Quest bar. Then an egg for Breakfast and 2 ounces of meat and 2 ounces of veggies for dinner. I try to eat a few nuts or a little cheese for a snack, but like I said, I'm not normally hungry. I have noticed that I lose more weight in the weeks when I really try to keep my calories on the high end. Of course that goes against everything I have ever been told so it is hard to wrap my brain around it!
  3. I'll be 8 weeks post-op this coming Monday. I average 900 calories a day. My low calorie day over the last week was 700, my high was 1100, on New Years Eve. Total carbs are 30-35. Net carbs are 10-12. I'm at about 80 grams of Protein. About half of my calories and carbs every day come from Protein shakes and bars. I've lost 36 pounds since surgery. I think I covered it all!
  4. The scale is the devil! A necessary evil at times, but I notice a lot more changes in myself that are completely non scale related. Keep up the great work!

    2 weeks out

Welcome to the site and congrats on making the choice to become healthier. Just remember that this is about you and what you need to do. It doesn't matter what other people think or say. It isn't always easy or fun, (the first few days of the liquid diet come to mind), but for me it has been completely worth the effort. Best of luck with the whole process!

    Stall at 3 months?

700 calories is pretty low for 3 months post op. Increasing for a couple days would probably break the stall. On a side note, did you ever think that anyone would tell you to increase your calories to lose more weight?

    80 grams of protein?

I had problems with the shake getting warm before finishing it as well. Solution: pour it over ice!

I bought this one at Walgreens. It works great! http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-premium-pill-crusher/ID=prod6212115-product

    Need help.

There is a calorie-free "social lubricant" that you could use in place of alcohol. Of course, it is not exactly legal in every state, but it isn't hard to find. I have probably said too much...

    FOOD SCALE?

I use my scale religiously. I weigh everything! It not only helps with portion sizes, but also converting nutrition info down to what I am actually eating, since I no longer eat a full serving of anything.

    Grumpy and Weak

My first 3 days were pretty rough but it got better after that. Hang in there!

    Feeling overwhelmed....????

Definitely follow doctor's orders. Though it may not feel like it, your new stomach is still very fragile this soon after surgery. Do not do anything that could possibly cause damage. If you are not already taking omeprazole (Prilosec), that may help with the hunger feelings. Just be sure to crush them first.

    EXTREME Pain, 1 day post-surgery

My stomach hurt a LOT worse than I was expecting. I was slightly angry about that! On the bright side, it gets much better within a few days time. Habg in there!
  15. As you can see you are going to get a lot of different answers to this. I basically track 3 things; liquids, Protein and carbs. I also keep a loose calorie count in my head, but if I am eating what I am supposed to, it isn't as important to me as the other things. I only count calorie free beverages as liquid. If it has protein and/or carbs it goes in those categories. I just think of the liquids I gain from these things as a bonus. Why do I do it like this? Who knows? My brain is a complex network of silly rules that I have devised and have convinced myself that the world will collapse around me if I do anything different. So, it works for me. Basically, do whatever works for you!
  16. I am nearly 2 months post-op. I had some of the same problems you are experiencing. My solution was chewable Gas-X and walking. You said you have to move around to feel better, so move around! I got to the point that i would take my Protein shake and go walk while I drank it. I still do that in the morning, just out of habit. Nothing wrong with getting your nutrition and your exercise at the same time. My gas problems mostly went away after a month or so. Also, if you aren't taking an antacid regularly, that might help with the hunger feelings. I take a crushed Prilosec morning and night, at the advice of my surgeon. As for finding your full, it will be easier once you start eating more normal foods. For now just focus on getting your protein and fluids. That is the most important thing! It gets easier and you will adjust, I promise!

    Getting very scared

I'll start by saying that only you can decide if weight loss surgery is right for you and if now is the right time. However, In my own experience, and from reading what people on here have to say, the biggest regret is not doing it sooner. Here are some things to think about. Do you think that making a healthy lifestyle change will do you more good in the future than it will right now? Do you think that going through this process while caring for a child will be easier? You barely qualify for surgery now, would you rather wait until you easily qualify? Why put yourself through that? I understand the fear that comes with this whole thing. I have been there. I talked myself into and out of going through with it several times. I am almost 2 months post-op at this point. Nothing has drastically changed in my life except for how I look at food. It no longer controls me. None of my fears have happened. I am better off now than I have been for most of my life. I wish I had made these changes years ago!

    Sorry MEN!

@@Elode - Don't you ever sleep? @@Justoperated - Go to the main forum listing by clicking on the Bariatric Pal logo in the upper left corner of every page. 19. So in 4 months since surgery you have lost about 80 pounds? That is awesome! I would say just keep up what you are doing and you will be fine. According to my surgeon, you will lose most of the weight you are going to lose in 10-12 months after surgery. Of course it will slow down, but you have a great start! And yes, I focus more on what I still need to lose than what I have already done. Nothing wrong with that! Good luck, you have got this!

    Month 3 of 6

It took over 3 months for approval after my final diet appointment. There was a bit of wrestling with the insurance company. It goes much faster for most. Best of luck on your journey!

    Sorry MEN!

I'll even admit to reading stuff in the ladies room on occasion, though I have resisted the urge to post. I figure I need all the help I can get figuring out the female mind! (Even with 20+ years of marriage I haven't cracked the code.)
  22. I tell people if they ask. Not a big deal since I really don't care what people think or say!

    Sorry MEN!

You are forgiven. For what it's worth, I don't really care if you or any other of the fairer sex read or post in the men's room. But that's just me!

    Day 2 of Optifast diet

It is true that the first few days are the hardest. I felt horrible and craved EVERYTHING for 3 days, after that the rest of the 2 weeks was a breeze. You can do it!
  25. I drink just enough Water to get them down. However, at the advice of my surgeon, I also crush my pills before taking them.
