    Im feeling blue

I read about it here: An "Understandable" Complication (July-August 2000) It is interesting that this is a common thing-post operative depression-yet no one mentioned it(meaning my Dr or the support group). I think Im still depressed but working through it.

Those just banded- don't forget to use the heating pad on your chest and shoulder. It really helped me with the shoulder discomfort. Rhonda-I very proud of you as you were not sure you could make it past the front doors. Way to go!!! Warm vibes, happy thought, good juju to everyone tomorrow!!
  7. It all seemed to hit me. I may never eat regular again. I now have surgical scars on a body that had never even been to a hospital. I mean Im having BIG time doubts about this and I can't change back. It's not like ANYTHING Ive ever done before. I had this thing put in. It was my choice, Im the only one to blame. I really did a lot of research before the surgery but nothing could prepare me for how Im feeling. I was really thinking about making myself puke so it would slip and have to be removed. I really shouldn't be complaining I get a good nights sleep. Ive been sleeping on my stomach since the first night in the hospital. Drinking my 5 meals getting all my protein. Not getting enough water, but whatever. Going on walks with the DH to get exercise. Im not really in pain, just discomfort. I wish I could be more psyched about this but right now I'm just trudging through the day thinking I've made the worst mistake of my life and pissed at myself for putting my family, body and mind through this. I know this is not what you guys want to hear but It's how Im feeling. I think Im getting depressed. __________________ UPDATE If you're reading this please know that Im fine and after a few days I wrapped my mind around stuff. I'm doing really well and am happy with my decision.

Ya it probably had something to do with hormones. With the stress of the surgery and all my TOM came 7days early and hit hard. I love LBT. Everyone is so supportive!!!! I can always find someone(or someones friend) who has gone through what Iam going through.

    March 4 - LP Day

shoulder pain- I get mine when I have is big capsule (pill)that gets stuck. I then have to drink hot Water and wait until it dissolves. I wonder if this is how it will feel when I have too muck to eat(later on real food). I don't like it and will try to avoid it. You have some very tasty recipes there. I will be on mushies on Friday. I think I will try the mock lasagna. Yummo

bring your Ipod in with you (and have your someone special hold it during surgery). Having it in pre-op and post-op would be comforting.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Now we just need someone on friday. Monday-Rhonda & Special K Tuesday-Harley Wednesday- Lynn Thursday- Busy Friday?? I took PJ's (a top and bottom), robe, slippers and flannel pillow case. Because of the IV I couldn't get the top on. I didn't have the cath so I could wear the bottom. I wore the robe to walk around in, cause the IV was long enough to make it down the sleeve. In bed I put the robe on top of the sheets like a blanket and that with the flannel pillow case made it more comfy. They didn't let me suck on throat drops(said it would mess with the stomach) so I used the spray stuff(under cloak of cover) and didn't swallow. Don't forget to bring your list of meds for the Anesthesiologist. Every morning Im going to send 5 minutes of warm blessings to each of you.
  12. I found a way to remove them without scrubbing my skin off!! New Skin liquid bandage. Just dip a Qtip in some and rub it on the marks and they dissolve right off. Then just clean with soap & water. Magic.

    3x a day oe 3x a day with snacks?

Its all calories. However you get them just don't have to many. If you're going to make it many small meals then keep track of the calorie count-religiously.

    just banded

Everyone is different but are you still taking pain meds? If not then do take them. Liquid Tylenol works great for most folks.but if your Dr gave you a scrip- use it.

    Getting very annoyed

Hi Im one of those folks you were talking about and I have to say those feelings have passed. Im not sure why I had them at all because I did alot of research and was/am very comfortable with my decision. I did get super support here at LBT. If you've done your homework you will be fine! Keep a list of the reasons you want to do this and refer back to it often. Regarding the diet, are you getting enough protein? Try adding some either with protein powder or the protein shots from the health food store. Good luck.

    Bad food prep=puke, almost.

I had a bit of a scare in the mall yesterday. I had some soup and a few minutes later my stomach was a bit unnerved. Well I went to the health food store and got some ginger. That and alot of water to wash it through seemed to help. I did get diarrhea, but I didn't puke. I got really nervous thinking about getting sick and the band slipping.

Hey Fenton, I'm curious you said you work around medical folks, what do you do? You sound very knowledgeable in the workings of the field. Also I know someone on the Island looking for a new Dr, do you think NYU would take on someone they didn't band?

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi all 11 days post op. Im getting a handle on the emotional stuff. No pain. A little "pulling" under the port. Incision look good. Keeping to the liquid, still not enough water. I did go to the movies today and REALLY wanted the popcorn. Fenton I don't know how you went to two, I don't think I will be going back for a long time. I just kept hearing crunch, crunch, crunch.Smelling the fake butter. I LOVE popcorn and I hear popcorn doesn't love the band.

    Any Long Islanders?

I had a rough time in the hospital(not medically, emotionally). The last couple of days have been tough for me. Lots of questioning my decision to get the band. But I'm coming to understand that is normal. I'm going to give the support group a try, although Im getting alot of support from LBT. I just found out that my insurance authorized the surgery as an outpatient and is not going to cover the overnight part. They said the hospital will be eating that cost because they told them it was not covered and I was kept anyways. I wish it was outpatient, I really could have skipped that hospital stay all together. I never want to go back there.

Cocolossel-have you been using your breathing device? I forgot what they called it. It is to help open up your lungs after surgery and help prevent pneumonia. And pneumonia would hurt to breathe. Check with the dr.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I think this is the busiest thread on the boards. Im gone one day and there are new people and 3 pages to read. Im doing better thanks to all the great support from LBT. Thank all!! My pre op visit was 2 hours because they used the chest xray,barium/upper gi, EKG & stress test from the testing my Dr had me do before scheduling surgery. It should have been shorter but an Anesthesiologist couldn't be found to have the interview. I just had blood drawn, pee taken to prove I wasn't pregnant and a talk with a RN letting me know of the risks.

I seem to be coming out of the fog. It is amazing to read all the good ideas and warm support on these boards. Sometimes I get a little scared reading about others tough times, band slips, erosions, food limitations. I guess I need to stay away from those posts for a while and "not put the cart in front of the horse" Again thank you all.
  25. I was skimming the ClinicalTrials.gov site and found this : EasyBand GOAL Trial - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov It is a trial for a new band that Allergan, makers of LapBand, have developed. It sounds like it will not have a port and will be controlled with telemetrically, like a pacemaker. Interesting... Anyone have any thoughts??
