I started with a trainer at the beginning of this month. I need accountability . Im the kind of person who doesn't really self-start exercise and I never remember how to use the machines. The pain in the pocketbook helps too. I stalled with weight loss for about 5 weeks and needed to kick start my metabolism. I am very happy with my trainer and the progress these past weeks. I thrilled the good weather is here. I love to kayak and swim so that will help with the exercise too. Fenton I love my balance ball. I sit on it to fold laundry and sometimes just to get a really good stretch of my back(laying on it and rolling back). My trainer uses it for ab work. luluc great idea to watch trainers at the gym, seeing them in action. Good luck to all!!

EnjoyLife I second the motion. Go to a gym and use one. Most gyms have a free trial. Either a day or a week. Go and use the equipment and see what you can and like to use. For me I get bored doing the same thing all the time. Plus I know I would be one of those folk in the ER having stepped off the edge.

Welcome newbie!! The best thing to do is inform yourself on the band and what you are in for. Usually we fear the unknown so look around LBT, ask questions, get your support system in place. Go shopping and get your protein stuff for the preOp and postOP. Start logging your food and not drinking with meals to get a head start on the Bandster life. Maybe start taking walks or going back to the gym. Losing just a little weight and being more physically active will make your recovery much faster/eaiser. My advise here at LBT is stay to away from the complications threads. It will just worry you unnecessarily. Also stay away from the posters that are whiners. When you get your band date visit that month(or start the thread) on the general support area, as everyone will be going through the same stuff you will be at the same time. I love the folks I have met on my month (Shrinking ShamRocks of March!!!) Good luck.

Ellen 16 lbs thats great!! When you make a list of mushie foods just try to stay away from the ones high in fat. That stuff will stall your loss REALLY fast. Good luck

Fenton- have you gone shopping yet or are you ready to walk out of your pants? Christine- yep it's time for a new Dr. Rugman- way to go! I love working with a trainer. I wouldn't do anything in a gym without one. I never remember how the machines work. Enjoy life- consider yourself blasted. trinitydad- we are band buddies, both banded on the 4th. As for me THE FREAKING scale IS GOING DOWN. :thumbup:I can't believe this. I think the fill is finally hitting me a full 17 days later. Go figure.

I you value the friendship and the memories with this person it is worth a try at talking it out and getting to the heart of the matter. Just ask her whats up? Let her know you don't want to lose her as a friend.

So for all my bitching lately I lost two pounds this week. It is about time!! I know it is not directly from the band because I've been struggling with portions. I called the Dr and pleaded my case, he moved up the fill by a week. I wish I could get in before 5-30. I don't want to piss him off. Whatever right. Im rejoicing in the loss.
-
thats right, I didn't get one either. I will have to ask about that.

I have a friend that every time I go over she asks what she can get for me- oreos', chips, popcorn, soda. She is one of a few friends that I told about the band. Yet still when I go over she asks me what I want. She says "Oh ya, hows that going? Do you want a carrot?" I answer with a request for ice water saying Im really thirsty. Some folks will always turn to food. It's good to know which ones and have an answer ready. Good luck.

The information J&J is giving out shortens the progression of the phases. I think it is because their Drs are not seeing any problems with this new band and it is less off putting to prospective banders. I think LapBand is still using the old information to be on the safe side and because they aren't putting any more $$ into research on LP band like J&J(BIG company) with Realize. Just the difference in the web sites is big. Lots more $$ going into J&J launch. As you will see here at LBT there are a multitude of different "instructions" with the bands. It seems every practice uses a different pre-op diet(some folks don't even have to diet before surgery while some are on liquid for a month), post-op diet(liquid for 2 wks, soft two, then on to solid, while others move through a 1 week or 3 weeks at in a phase), fill policy and prices(starts at 4 weeks out with the next in the following week while others have to wait 6-8 weeks for the first fill then 6 to 8 wks in between), support group setup(some have support groups included free, others have to pay for each meeting or don't have them at all). These are all questions you should ask of the Dr or office you choose. Good luck.

I wish I could do the elliptical more but it makes my left foot hurt. Weird I know but I just stick with the treadmill for now. How is your foot? great food choices!!

way to go Harley When you see the dietitian is it part of your surgeons office or a private one you see on the side?

Hey Bronx, Long Island here. Just a heads up. If you think its a lot of work now you might want to reconsider. You still have quite a few tests, the pre op diet, Surgery, recovery, post op diet, fills then the whole life with the band. You have to educate yourself about what you are going to go through. Be really comfortable with your Dr and his staff. Have a support system in place to help you through the process. Be ready for a LIFE CHANGE. I say this from experience. I don't yet know if the band will be right for me. But now I have it in me and HAVE to work with it and everything that comes with it. You absolutely have to have NO DOUBTS, or this tool will NOT work. Good luck.

Good idea with the measurements. I too have found that the body rearranges its self without a change on the scale. Put that foot up when you can to get the swelling down. Maybe try the recumbent bike at the gym.

Still down-but getting better.

I hate to poop poop the band so early but I know myself and I need some more reenforcement to keep on the proper path. This thing is supposed to kick in where my will power can't. Or maybe not. Maybe I just wanted it to and read into the Lap-band information what I wanted to see. I called the Dr about a fill and was told not for 6 weeks. I really should have looked into the fill policy of this Dr before banding. Live and learn. There are other Dr's that fill more frequently. I think I should make up a list of ?? prebanders should ask. I hope I will be one of those bandsters who at one year are counseling the newbies to hang in there because I had a slow start also. I really appreciate the opportunity to vent in a supportive place. THANKS:smile2: -
