It will get better. Im so sorry you had a reaction. It is never easy to tell who will and who won't. I hope you got some good drugs. The pain shot I got in the hospital gave me a super headache, I used ice packs to relieve it as I didn't trust not having another drug reaction. Feel better. HUGS

pay attention to the itching, sometimes folks have an allergic reaction to the tape or glue. Benadryl cream is a good idea. Feel better. This too shall pass.

SpecialK;"We are each going to buy the equivalent in how many pounds we have lost in food staples and we are donating it to a local food bank drive" What a great idea!! Also I am Wii-less here too.

It is if you are ready. The procedure is the least of your worries. Prepare your mind, family and body, become well informed on what you are getting into and what is expected of you.Be willing to make some hard choices/changes. The more knowledge you have the less fear you will have. Good luck.

DH- either Dear Husband or Dumb Husband depending on your mood and his actions.:wink2:

It is great that you are taking control of your future. Good luck!!

I can't impress on you how much you need to get your protein in. whether in liquid form or mushy. Also try not to consume more then 6-8 oz at a sitting. In the early days this only stretches your pouch and allows you to eat too much and not feel full sooner. Training yourself in the earliest stages is a real help for future success. There is a reason this is called "Bandster Hell".

first and foremost W O O H O O !!! I don't want to rain on your parade but maybe celebrating with food is not that great a reward. IMHO:embaressed_smile: (flamesuit on)

I love a good artichoke. Mini vacations are good, I just came back from 5 days in FL. Now that we are rested and relaxed we need to re-devote ourselves to what we want most. Good luck.

Am I trading what I want most for what I want at the moment?
ajoneen posted a blog entry in Watch out life, here I come!!
I have found a new mantra: Am I trading what I want most for what I want at the moment? Weather it is more/high calorie food or vegging/watching TV and not exercising. I keep hearing "look at this in the long term" because I'm bitching about slow weight loss. It has been 26 weeks since I decided something had to change and began this process mindfully. If I go by my scale I have lost 50 lbs, (according to the Dr who is going by a different date and scale 40lbs.) Averaged out that's 1.92 a week and well within the standards of healthy weight loss. That makes me feel a little bit better. Still I know there is a golden time with the band, 24 months. That is the optimal time to lose with the band. I feel the clock ticking away and hope I have the personal strength to get what has to be done, done. Do I want this the most? -

Long time no write. Sorry. I went on a (too) short golf vacation in Naples, FL & returned last night. I left the same day (5/30) I received my second fill .3cc's. I now have 1.8 cc in my 4cc band. I haven't really noticed any difference yet. My Dr has a 6 week fill policy. His rational is pushing fills too quick leads to problems(erosions/slips). I talked with him about this and he agreed to 5 weeks for me. Not good but better. Insist on talking with your Dr, not just the staff. Present yourself at the office or do not take no for an answer on the phone. Get an appointment. Write a list of concerns/questions for the Dr so you don't forget. The Dr gets paid the same for all office appointments so he is not losing money speaking with you. If the office staff doesn't give you an appointment write a letter to the Dr with your concerns requesting his response as the office staff will not make you an appointment. Squeaky wheel and all...

Why don't you head over to the Nevada State support forum under general support. You are going to be hurting for a few weeks in one way or another. Gas pain, shoulder pain, port pain and general not feeling good. You just had surgery. Take it easy. Good luck!

what are some of the side affects to the lap band surgery?
ajoneen commented on mholmes's blog entry in Blog 39992
You are not going to magically not be hungry or get full with just a few bites or lose weight rapidly. It is a process and everyone reacts differently to this thing. That being said I have dealt with: Left shoulder pain when I've eaten too much or a large pill gets stuck. Gas pain after eating that gets stuck in the lower stomach and can't make its way up past the band. Port pain for about 2 months after surgery. No more carbonated drinks. No more Advil. A little depression when I had second thoughts, after surgery. (Get all your question answered before surgery) Lots of hic ups, burps and some constipation. I haven't got any food stuck or BP'd, yet. Good luck. -
Follow what you Dr tells you first and foremost. Get all your questions answered. Stick to the pre-op diet. Start not drinking with your meals. Start an exercise program, even if it is walking 3 days a week for 15 minutes. Get your support system in place before the surgery. (Babysitters, support group, walking buddy, protein source) The band will change your life, but don't wait until you get the band to start changing your life. Good Luck!

msjessy- yep that is correct. You will need to see you PCP within 7 day before your surgery. It is a hospital requirement. You will need to get blood work done if it is older then 3 months. NY state requires all women having surgery to have a pap test done within a year of surgery. So you will need that also maybe. When you go for the Pre Op testing at the hospital (about 3 days before surgery) you will have a blood test (pregnancy, type, Xmatch), urine, EKG (if you haven't had one within 3 months) and meet with an anesthesiologist and nurse to cover the basics of the procedure. Hope this helps.

Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with BBQ and that means FOOD. I did really great Saturday, very bandster. Today has also been fine. Sunday was the problem. I was on the hook to make BBQ chicken and ribs. Man were those ribs good, I make KILLER ribs! A nibble here a nibble there. Yum. Then at the party munchies were everywhere. I tried to be good at first and eat only carrots but the peanuts were calling to me. Then so was the pasta salad, ribs and fruit and cookies. I wasn't feeling too good when we left. Which makes it easy to not eat much today. Im not feeling too bad about my consumption this weekend on the whole I ate TONS less then I would normally have. Still I know that the scale will not be moving down in the next few days and I have only myself to blame. On the bright side the scale will definitely not be going up.

There is a meeting for banded under a year on the third Tuesday of each month and for banded over a year on the fourth Tues. The ones at the Ritz are general information and maybe a past patient speaking about his/her experience. Meetings are $20.00 and held at Syosset Hosp. I went to the one in April. There were about 20 people from 6 months out to one month out. The meeting is run by the nutritionist or psychologist. I actually got more out of talking with folks after the meeting. Bumping around ideas, suggestions and advice. You got a small plastic bag when you were released from the hospital with lapband stuff there should have been a coupon from the Dr for a free support group meeting. If not ask for one at the office. There is also a group that meets in North Port with some folks that get together on the first Wed. Mixed group of about 8-10 people. Different Drs. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!!

Hi all. Diva sorry about the accident. In talking with other bandsters I have found that stress has an effect on the tightness of the band. In some when they are nervous or stressed food just doesn't pass as well. Then when the food gets stuck they get more stressed, then tighter. Its a wicked cycle. So words of wisdom- RELAX and go back to liquids for a day. I don't remember who was looking into the Rebounder, but I asked my trainer about them and he said it is a good tool and excellent for overweight folks to gently jog on, easier on the joints. Most don't last long, a year, because of the cheaper construction. But good ones($$$) will last for a while and can be a challenging workout. Just stay to the center. He said all exercise is good exercise. Speaking of which me trainer worked my arms/shoulders so much yesterday I think it was his way to keep me from lifting the fork all weekend at the various BBQ's I'm headed to. Hope everyone has a super fantastic weekend!!

So for all my bitching lately I lost two pounds this week. It is about time!! I know it is not directly from the band because I've been struggling with portions. I called the Dr and pleaded my case, he moved up the fill by a week. I wish I could get in before 5-30. I don't want to piss him off. Whatever right. Im rejoicing in the loss.

msjessy- the office/Dr might also be closed/on vacation at some point in the next 2 months and that pushes the schedule out.
