    Marijuana and Surgery

I think smoking in general is not good in regards to surgery. You want your lungs in the best shape possible. Your Dr and the anesthesiologist will tell you not to. I also second the munchie bit. there are threads about this on the main boards. Good luck

Fenton-I sounds weird to be congratulating you on being morbidly obese but I know how this is a big bench mark for you. (and alot of us others) side bar- I like the US cover better then the British one. Annie had a good idea to scan your jacket pic but I sent the book to my dad in Ca. I was thinking about that yesterday. By the time you take the pic for the next book no one will recognize you, no to mention the 3rd or 4th. You will be the James Bond(movie version) of authors- a new face with each sequel.

    A wholy $%&! Batman moment

"I want to cheer for my success and cry for my letting myself get to where I was." I am so with you on this. I am just beginning to think that the goal I set for myself is not low enough. I think I would be short changing my body/life to not at least try and set the goal lower. Thanks for putting word to my feelings. Amanda

    Any Long Islanders?

I guess I was really lucky to have found a great cardio Dr. I had the stress test and echo on the same day and then he typed up the report while he talked to me about the results and printed a copy for me and one to send to Band Dr. I wish all my Dr's are like this.

    Help for hair loss!

Yep this is a problem for some folks that lose weight (rapidly). Dr says that your body is shutting down a non essential process because it thinks you are going into starvation mode. I experienced it a few years ago when on diet pills and again now with the band. Some folks lose quite a bit, think bald Patches. Im giving folic acid pills a shot this time but I don't really see a difference from last time. The other day my husband asked if I had given the dog a bath because there was so much hair in the drain. Good news IT WILL GROW BACK!! Good luck.

Yep Im losing hair too. I noticed it the two other time I really lost weight. I guess my body just revolts a bit in the weight loss process. I did start taking folic acid pills this time. I had a friend who was taking them when she wanted to get pregnant and her hair and nails grew fast and thick, and her Dr said it was the folic acid. Hell I'll give anything a try. The other day my husband asked if I gave the dog a bath because there was so much hair in the drain. I do know from the other times that it indeed grows back. In my case with more gray but I don't think that was from the weight loss. Just me getting old. Now Im off to look at this picture thread.

Welcome back! I have to say Yes and no. I eat more than 1/2-3/4c at dinner. Im about like you 1 1/2c or 2c. For Breakfast and lunch its 1c. Breakfast is easy cause my band is tight in the am. Lunch is easy at work, cause Im busy and not thinking about food. Not at work and I could eat more but "try" to eat less. Dinner I definitely have a hard time keeping the volume down.

Christine- Im on the North Shore in Nassau. I think you should get yourself a pipe too. I used to try to stand on logs in the lake back home. Thats really hard and they have bark for traction. I can't imagine a slick pipe. God knows what Fenton will say about it (F:you will never live down hula hoop)

I do something similar with vanilla protein powder, frozen berries and skim milk. I tried to toss a few ice cubes in but it just makes too much for me to have before I get full.

Fenton- We excuse you. You are British and therefore not the best judge of classiness. Pardon me whilst I roll on the floor laughing.

    Discouraged and scared

Stay with your Dr's program. Keep up the protein to keep the hunger at bay. You really can't go by the week to week scale this early with the band. Your body is going through some major changes and needs to heal/settle. That is why the Dr is waiting on the fill. Loosing weight in the first few months is a bonus. The real weight loss will be when you hit a sweet spot with fills and you're settled into a reduction phase and the scale will drop steadily. Have patience. How long did it take to gain all the weight? Good luck. Amanda

Remember Happy New Minute!!! Just start again, fresh. Forget yesterday, forget this morning. Just work yourself through this hour. I really can't think of some sure fire way for you to find your mojo. Im having a hard enough time holding on to mine. But I know you can get through this hour. Then maybe you will get through the evening. If not just promise you will start new in the morning. Maybe it would do you some good to talk with a life coach or therapist. Get in touch with some of the whys. Don't give up on this thread either. We all care for you and would miss your presence. Get the Wii fit out of the box and hula hoop. It might or might not be classy but it will get you moving and ramp up the endorphins. We want a full review. We will not let you turn your back on us!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I never thought I had a problem with cholesterol. I gave blood/platelets regularly and the postcard so nicely sent by blood services with my cholesterol number (and next available donation time) was never in the high range(nonfasting). Then I went to the Cardiologist preBanding (12/07) and had a test(fasting). 320!!! Holy Moly. I started my version of the preOp diet 1/08. My PCP did a test (2/08) 297!! I started fish oil, coq10 and red yeast rice(natural statin) two week before surgery. Well folks I am happy, no actually ecstatic, to report that my cholesterol is now 195. My Dr feels I am the poster child for controlling cholesterol with diet and exercise. I think it was a wake up call from my body. Preband except for the high cholesterol I didn't have any co-morbidities. But it was only a matter of time before something popped up. But this cholesterol thing this is BIG. So maybe the scale is moving slowly but the band is helping me lower some other equally important numbers.

    Progress

I've moved the training schedule to 3 days a week (from 2). I've taken in a few pairs of shorts (and need to loss the stuff I don't fit in any more.) I'm finding I don't feel hungry most of the time. Scale is moving down-slowly. Cholesterol went down by about 100 points. I have to work on wanting to eat when I'm bored. Why is that? I have to work on exercising on non trainer days. I think that is good progress.

    Any Long Islanders?

your BMI is 34.8 (go here to check Calculate your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator ) BMI over 40 no questions, BMI under 40 you need co- morbidities (high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea or the like) Most insurance co. want you to be 100 lbs over weight. Give the office a call, ultimately it is up to them. Good luck

Kerri- first off Happy Birthday!! (even if it is a bit late) I would PM the other person just to talk them up a bit. Ask general ??s When banded, fills, how do they like the process so far? Maybe you could get some more information on the workings of the Dr office and maybe get in contact with others at the same office. Does your Dr have a support group you can be part of? Where you can talk to others banded by this Dr? Then you will have the ammo to go after the office policies. Remember everyone is different and perhaps this other person has a different size band as you. Thats all I can think of. I understand your frustration with waiting for fills. My Dr has a very conservative fill policy. Hang in there!!:tongue2:

    Where did the willpower go?

put your hand on your belly and feel your port. Now why did you get the band? Rub the port. Why do you want this to work? Rub your port. What are you going to do to make this work? You get it, try to link the physical, the port/band with the mental. Good luck.
