    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

In other news: I actually lost the lbs I picked up this month. So Im back to my Nov 11th weight, 210. It really doesn't make sense. I've been indulging in treats of the sweets & booze variety. Plus I've not worked with my trainer for 2 weeks. I had a stupidly huge meal the day after Christmas. The only saving grace was that it was pretty much the only thing I eat that day. Im actually a bit depressed how easily I have slipped back to my former self. It has been almost a year of changing food habits and creating exercise habits and nothing stuck. It is so not true about doing something for a certain amount of time (3 weeks, 3 months ???) and it becomes a (new) habit. I am very fearful that this will be like other attempts. It is only a matter of time before the weight comes back, plus more. I should have had my damn stomach stapled. PS I have also developed a F*%&ing hemorrhoid!!!

Jonathan I am truly sorry about the recent turn of events. Meeting someone and building a relationship is one of the toughest things a person ever does. Maybe this renewed sense you are feeling is good. I have heard that when a person is working on recovery from an addiction that a moratorium is put on physical relationships for a year from sobriety date. So as not to interfere with the work that has to be done. So have some pudding, but only because it is good holiday food. Hey, a guy has to eat right?

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

No that does not sound good. It sounds like you might have some kind of irritation at the top of your stomach that is being inflamed because the band is there to keep food at the top of the stomach. I don't want to freak you out but perhaps the band is eroding and causing the inflammation. (you haven't had any blood in the stool or coughed up blood, right? I don't know how they would check if it was eroding from the outside in) No one thing works the same in everyone. Maybe the band isn't for you and that sucks big time. I don't think you should be suffering so much. Given you've had ALOT of stuff to stress about lately, but still.... I think staying off the dairy for a while is a good idea. That might do the trick(lets all pray hard). Folks do become allergic to stuff later in life. You're not nuts, something is going on. It might take time to figure it out but Im sure you'll get a handle on it soon. ((HUGS)) to you.

About the neti pot- don't knock it until you've tried it. I too thought it was gross but it is amazing how clear you breath with a little rinse. I like the weight in idea, BUT Jonathan is not immune. Im sure in all of France he can find a scales. So what if it will be different from the one back here. It's about accountability. So hop on that scale and shout out the numbers. (here that is).

Hi all! I've been quite busy this past week. Much Merry Making this last weekend. I'm trying to beat a cold now. Has anyone used a neti pot? This thing is great! Jonathan I use the zinc that goes in the nose. I will count myself lucky if I don't gain this holiday season.

YES YOU HAVE!!! I wrote this comment for someone else but it is also a reminder for us all: Again props to you, Rhonda for your hard work.

    Hello

Yep! Whenever the scale stops moving down or starts to move up. That's when the bypass looks like a more attractive option because it does a little more work for you, in the beginning. There is work to be done when you have the band. It's not just having surgery and you start losing and keep losing. With the band you are more involved in the process of weight loss. Which is GOOD. The "why" you packed on the weight is very important and you have to change those behaviors as well as having the band as a tool. I think for most of us bandsters we made the decision to go with the band because we wanted to loose the weight and keep it off. The keeping it off is the hard part and the band gives you the time and learning opportunity to make the lifestyle changes that will stand the test of time and life's challenges. I 'm sure you've done the research into the difference between the band and bypass. The pro's and con's of both and found the right fit for you. Knowledge is very powerful in helping to make you feel comfortable with your decision. Good luck on your journey.
  11. Hi Jewels Welcome to LBT! You are so correct in educating yourself on this decision. Knowledge takes away alot of the fear/regret/guilt that you see written about in the posts/blogs. You sound like you're ready to make the life changes needed to have success with the band. Good luck on your journey!! Amanda

    Any Long Islanders?

I have never really had the restriction some folks talk about. No "soft stop" or stuck feeling. My band has never "stopped" me, ever. Dr P's answer to me was "Do you want to get stuck?" I think for some folks the band will never give the "soft stop" or perhaps we just don't know what that feels like and thus miss the signal. I feel there is some light bulb that I have not found the switch for, but when I do it will be like- wow why did I never see/feel that before? I will be interested in what Dr P tells you.

That is a common problem with the Protein Powder. The heat curdles the protein. To mix properly the liquid must be lower then 130º F – do not heat above 130º F. When I want protein in my coffee I add the powder to a cup add about 1/4 c milk, about 2T of the hot coffee and mix really well with a spoon. Than I pour in the rest of the coffee. Seems to work for me. Anyone else have a trick?

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I must confess I was the one who suggested the Protein powder mix. In my defense I never said it was good. Jonathan when you were talking about the apartment and not having a blender I just assumed your had a fridge and such. You really were behind the eightball. Glad to hear you're back among the epicurean enabled. Christine Im very sorry to hear of your MIL's passing and the upheaval of the last few weeks. Im sure you've heard the term you're never given more then you can handle? Well you're one strong lady!! Rhonda- can you feel the green flames of jealousy shooting from my fingers? Honestly, you're doing a wonderful job of tuning up your lifestyle. It is plainly evident you are doing the hard work it takes to succeed. Congratulations on your accomplishment. As for baking- That is not happening in my home this year. I will be going over to a friends home on the 21st to make some holiday treats, but I have decided to not bring any home for consumption. Until I have a better fix on mindless/boredom eating I just can't have danger foods around. I bid you all Holiday Peace!!

Does Paris have libraries? A library should have internet. Anyways being aware of food choices is a big part of the battle. Mindless eating is what will kill you. This I know from the last few days.

Hi all. My "Thanksgiving" will be Saturday because the boys are working Thur & Fri and My sister will be flying in on Fri to visit for a few days. Tomorrow I will be helping out with a local Thanksgiving lunch. Giving rides to and from. Will be fun to meet some new folks. I'm very Thankful to have all of you in my life. Saturday when I sit with my family here I will raise my glass in a silent toast to you all. This has been a really wonder-ful year.

    Any Long Islanders?

Miriam when I was up in recovery looking for Fran I think I saw you. Were you the first bed by the door? I glad you're feeling better. Unjury is the best shake mix I found and believe me I tried a lot. I liked adding a flavor extract like almond or coconut to the chocolate. Yum.
