  1. I haven't made it common knowledge, but I did tell people I am close to...and the only 'negative' reactions were from overweight people...I thought it would be the other way round.

    Aussie PS Consult

Hi Jess, Can I ask...is the surgery considered 'reconstructive' due to the amount of weight you've lost, and is that relevant to the price (and private health requirements)? I'm with Medibank Private and they've told me any 'cosmetic' surgery is not covered. I'm a long way away from this op yet, but it's already clear I'll be needing some work lol. Thanks

Proof that Carbonation Can Damage a Band

Hi, I'm a Queenslander I get all my diet advice from my surgeons dietician...my surgeon simply says follow the diet protocol (let's him off the hook lol). Anyway, looked back at dieticians notes and it says "flat diet soft drink only." Well the "diet" part is obvious (although I don't put those poisons in my body anymore) and the flat part seems to indicate no bubbles. I'll try to remember to ask them both next time I see them.

    October Bandsters Date List

Hi everyone Firstly, thanks Eileen for starting and continuing such a wonderful thread Well, it's a week tomorrow since I was banded. It seems a lifetime ago lol. Sorry to have taken a while to get here with an update, but one day away and soooo much to catch up on. Everything went very smoothly. I was under by 8am and back in my bed by 11.30am. Home the next day. There were three of us in the same room all banded by the same doctor, so the next day we had a little chat which was nice. I'm surprised at how little pain there is. I had no shoulder tip pain at all and only pain where the incisions are. I haven't taken any pain medication for two days and feel fine. I should mention I have a very low pain threshold. The liquids are going down fine, but after two weeks of optifast pre surgery I am really hanging out for mushies lol. I just want real food Well good luck to everyone waiting and get well thoughts to everyone healing. And another special thank you to Eileen

    3 months post op

    Does band size matter?

My itemised quote for my band had the band itself at $4000 aud. That's alot but I suppose alot of research etc goes into it. I'm covered for all of that but I would never have guessed the band itself would cost so much...more than the surgery. I'm sure there is alot of 'selling' involved just like prescribed drugs.

Im Back from the Lap Band Conference

Hi Kel I just saw the photos...over in the other place Sound like you had a great time. Wish I could have justified the expense, but chose the band this time lol. Maybe next year! Any mention of where or when the next one will be??

    Does band size matter?

I'm having my surgery Monday and my doctor has already told me I'll be getting the SAGB 10ml. He showed me pictures to explain why he preferred that one and basically it was due to the clip being 'away' from the band (not part of the round bit) and the balloon goes all the way around the inside. It seems some don't from what he said. I also read somewhere else, that some surgeons prefer the larger bands as it is easier to adjusts fills in larger amounts...not tiny amounts. I don't know...I just want this band NOW...any band LOL

Just back from the Emerg Room.

I'm not banded yet...but I had several attacks after my gall bladder was removed. One was so bad I made it to the GP's while it was happening. My doctor was away so I saw another. She examined me and looked me straight in the eye and said "you are having a gall bladder attack"...well I said it certainly feels the same EXCEPT I DON'T HAVE A GALL BLADDER! She glanced at the computer and looked back at me very embarrassed lol. They just stopped one day and haven't had one for two years.
  19. I have to do Optifast for 14 days - it's killing me, but I've lost nearly 8 pounds in 5 days!

    Sarah's NSV List

    Wow...I can't wait to have NSV's!
  23. This is the reason I have told some friends apart from family. Several even said they would definatley have noticed the liquid stage. One of my friends said she was glad I'd told her as she already thought something was wrong with me as I seemed to be going to alot of Doctors. (for the dietician, surgeon, psychotherapist etc I just said I've got a doctors appointment). So she was relieved there was nothing wrong with me Funny what people notice isn't it? I know however, that I have told enough people now that if it 'leaks' out I won't really know who told :straight Part of me wanted to tell no-one (only hubby) but I knew that this was not realistic for me.

    Plastic Surgery - Who's had it? ...

Hi Parvathi, I live in Cairns, I think those surgeons (husband and wife) have their home set up for patients recovery. Don't quote me though...could be urban legend lol. I have the understanding (not confirmed) that if the work you need is considered reconstructive rather than cosmetic most private health here will cover it. For example, I already have a *mummy tummy* from carrying two huge bubs and being overweight myself. My understanding is that once I lose my 40 odd kilos, any loose skin (I do not want to say apron lmao) would be considered reconstructive rather than cosmetic...I don't know about boob jobs.
