Good for you, Rock! I'm sure you are making some nice lady very happy. I hope my hubby won't mind keeping the lights off. LOL

I haven't had my surgery yet and I'm trying to learn as much as I can beforehand. I love this subject. I'm wondering how many of you that lost your desire for sex have gone through menopause? I'm 46 and post menopausal. I am also nervous that the excess skin is going to disgust my husband. Right now our sex life is pretty good.

I have my first appointments tomorrow morning with a nutritionist and behaviorist at Tufts Weight and Wellness Center in Boston. This is the very first appointment with someone other than my pcp to discuss weight loss surgery. Are there specific questions that I should ask them? What should I expect? Up until now, I've been calm and read everything I can on my options. Now all of a sudden, I am nervous and afraid that I am going to get there and will be told that I'm not a good candidate. I am trying to remember that my pcp told me that I was a perfect candidate for gastric bypass. Help! Any advise would be welcome.

Chyla, that sound great. I agree that after the first appointment, the nerves settle down a little bit. Doesn't it feel good to know that you are taking control of your health? I know that it does to me. Also, knowing that we have so much support through the process makes me believe that THIS is really the time that all of the effort will pay off!

I had my first visit on Wednesday and it went great. I am nervous because I had blood work done and just got the results. The only issue I have is a very slightly elevated glucose level. It isn't even considered pre-diabetic. I feel bad that the results didn't make me more excited. I am now concerned that even with a BMI of 46, I won't be eligible. I need this surgery!

First Appointment Tomorrow

The first day of the new me is over. It was a crazy busy day and my brain is ready to shut down. Other than being late for my 8:30 appointment with the nutritionist which messed up my 9:00 appointment with the behaviorist, everything went well. Luckily I had taken the whole day off from work, so I could be flexible and wait around until I could get both appointments done today. I loved both ladies and the office staff couldn't have been nicer. I feel like they will really be by my side thru this whole process. The next step is "immersion day". That is an all day group meeting to go over each step of the process and meet other people who are on the same journey as I am. That will either be Dec 15th or Jan 5th. After that, it's meet the surgeon and find out how much I need to lose before he submits everything to my insurance. I mentioned this site to my Nutritionist and she was so happy that I joined it. She hears such good things about the comradarie of people here. I totally agree with her. You are all great support! Laurac727, I hope your day was as great as mine. I can' t wait to hear. -

Thank you everyone. I know I'm not going to sleep tonight. All I was told to bring is my medication list. I have my medical records from my previous pcp as I am a fairly new patient of my current one. My husband is coming with me as my second set of ears because I am sure I will be told a lot of information. Laura, Good Luck and I look forward to hearing how you make out. Harleyphleb, you must be so excited! Are you doing your liquid diet? Keep me posted! I am trying to take deep breaths and keep all of this encouragement running through my head. -
I have BCBS of NJ but live in MA. I am hoping for 6 months, too. I had blood work done on Tuesday and am waiting the results. I am going to do everything that I am told to do because I am going to have this surgery because I am worth it.

I am also just starting this journey. My first visit with a Nutritionist is on Dec 10th. My biggest fear is a rejection from my insurance. My BMI is 46, so I shouldn't be rejected, but we all know how insurance companies are. One thing I do suggest is reading The BIG book of Gastric Bypass (if that is what you are hoping to have) and The Weight Loss Surgery Notebook. I found both to be very helpful. I have already realized a lot about how I got to the point of needing WLS and what my choices are. Both books are available in print and e-books. I am looking forward to walking this journey with so many people on this site.

Catie, what is causing the low what's blood count? It's so had when you are just trying to make yourself healthier and hit so many roadblocks. I know it will be worth it in the end but until we get there it will be a lot of hurdles to jump.

I'm not sure I can take a year of the ups and down of my weight, which is why I want the surgery. No matter how hard I try, the weight doesn't come off and I get so frustrated with myself.

Hi Suze. Please don't get me wrong. I totally agree with the insurance company wanting to make sure someone is committed to this new lifestyle. I think I was prepared for it to be 6 months. A year just seems like a long time to wait and I don't like thinking about another year of struggling

I am also just starting this journey and have so many questions. My first visit with the Nutritionist and Behaviorist is Dec 10th. I called my insurance (BCBS) and was told they will need 12 months of documented weight loss attempts. That alone is discouraging. I hope I feel better after I talk to someone that isn't reading from a script at the insurance call center. Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone, I am from SE Mass and have just started this journey. My very first visit to Tufts Weight and Wellness Center is on December 10th and have no idea what to expect. I am meeting a Nutritionist and then a Behaviorist(???). I'm about halfway thru reading The Big Book of Gastric Bypass and also about half of The Weight Loss Surgery Workbook. Right now, I feel like this is consuming my life between the excitement and nervousness. I would love to get some advice/encouragement from people who are/were in the same boat. Thanks, Jocie
