Amy, I use GNC protein shakes as a general rule. But I too have one yuckie shake mix I am trying to get through. I mix a tablespoon of chocolate or banana fat free sugar free dry pudding mix in mine. I also use cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon with 1 cup of lowcarb milk. It hides the nasty taste a bit. I have also used 2 tablespoons of orange juice concentrate for a change. Hope this helps.

Congrats to you Amy! I will be joining you soon in the land of the banded.

Now even having a supportive husband hasn't shielded me from sly innuendos. I knew that it was just a matter of time before I got my surgery. So I have been actively working to get my weight down prior to surgery. I have lost 13 pounds and now remarks are coming my way, why do I need surgery, I can just continue with the diet that I am doing and shouldn't have any problems losing weight. If only it were that easy! I don't waste my breath trying to explain, even with drill to the brain it wouldn't help.

Question for all. I have already been approved for surgery, but there seems to be an issue with my Triglicerides, which is in the 400 and my HDS are low, as well as my platelates being low. The Diagnostic facility was concerned about both issues and wanted me to go see my primary care dr asap. Also, they said it could delay my surgery. So I go see my dr and she reruns the blood test because my initial results are almost 3 weeks old. My doctor focuses mainly on the platelets and doesn't seem terribly concerned about my lipid levels...so I think it is all fine. My platelets come back normal, but of course no lipids, because she didn't test that. So now in the morning I have to go redo the lipid test and not sure why. Can anybody tell me why this is an issue for surgery? I tried to talk to the Dr. Benavides's nurse about this, but have been having trouble reaching here. So I am coming to the board to see if anybody else has had this type of problem. 7/27 Initial Consultation Weight 270 7/28 Blood Test 7/29 Stress Test <O:p</O:p7/29 sleep Test 8/02 Psych evaluation 8/06 2nd Sleep Test 8/10 2nd psych evaluation 8/24 Notice of Surgery approval Weight 260 9/21 Dr Benavides's Consultation 9/23 Surgery Day!!!! :-) <O:p</O:p

Hi Sweetums, welcome!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, with nursing a baby, I doesn't sound like you are getting enough calories to support you both. I would discuss my calorie needs with a nutritionist to find out what nutrition goal you should be working toward so you both are safe!

Now see, my husband has been completely supportive in my endevours to have this surgery. My husband is right at a BMI of 24 and is 6'3. At 5'1 I weigh more than he does. He knows that my health is in extreme danger. We have two chitlins and he wants me to do whatever I need to in order to be around for our children. I am so lucky!!!

Questions about Triglicerides and HDL

Thanks DeeDee for the info. I have been on a lowfat diet even before I heard the results. My results of the new platelet test were fine. So hopefully tomorrow my lipids will be in line. I too was confused as to why the lipids would cause a delay in surgery. -
Congrats to you Kel!!! I know you must so happy and excited! I can't wait to feel that excitement. That is my first goal as well. My DH weighs 205 and is 6'3 so I just have a ways to go. My DH said that as well, as I got closer he was going to start watching what I ate. He is a such a tease. Great job Kel!!! :-)
