    Stage two/pre-op diet question

Yeah stage two and pre-op is the same for my surgeon. If it doesn't have to be chewed and can fit through a fine mesh strainer it's ok

    Actual surgical procedure question

True!!!! (And to clarify my OB did not say those actual mean words to me she is a very nice lady!)

    Supplies for post surgery?

Thanks!!! I added those adhesive pads to my list and checked the status of my baby oil (half a bottle still )
  4. I asked my surgeon about this because with three kids, there is always someone sick in the house lol! He said they don't consider it an issue unless there is a fever, or such bad congestion that it impedes your breathing. I would start pounding the vitamin c right now and drink tons of water, get some extra rest. Good luck!!

Sharing very little with very few

Funny I haven't told my in laws ("family", right?) but have told my brothers, sister, and parents along with my hockey mom friends. I like my MIL but she is very judgey by nature and my other in laws are as judgey as the day is long. I have surgery in January and won't even see any i laws til Easter, and then again not til July so it's all good. Tell who you are comfortable telling, and just work on a plan now for when questions are asked. Best of luck!!

    strange topic...have you?

I haven't had surgery yet (1/19!!!) but my friend had bypass two years ago and went through the same thing - like everyone else said its ketones... Listerine strips are your friend - they say not to stock up on anything prior to surgery because your tastes will change but I have a stockpile of these already.
  9. Kind of a dumb question... How does this work?? I've had it under my tongue for 10 minutes and it is still there. At what point do I swallow it? Hubby think once it's mushy, I feel like it needs to dissolve and be liquidy? Instructions aren't helpful LOL!

    Sublingual b12 ?

It does say it on the bottle.... It is the consistency of a kid's chewable vitamin

    Sublingual b12 ?

    thanks!!!
  13. My mother always told me that, as a rule, people only write (ie: complain) when they have negative stuff to say. They are less inclined to rave about the good than they are to bitch about the bad. (Not saying they don't have a right to bitch and complain - I'm just saying)
  14. Sugar free Popsicles? I think they may also have some vitamin C. I think there are sugar free throat lozenges, maybe give those a try?? Hope you feel better

    Caffeine

Hi everyone! I'm having GB on 1/19, and my surgeon said caffeine impedes healing and isn't allowed for 3-4 months after surgery. I drink 1-2 large mugs of coffee per day, and 1 or 2 servings of caffeinated crystal lite or diet coke (side note: diet coke is RARE - I kicked that addiction a few months ago! I would drink a 2 liter per day!) Now, I have had days where I didn't get my usual caffeine intake and had horrid headaches. The dietician recommended I start weaning back about a month before surgery. My husband said since I will be on pain killers for about a week, my withdrawal headaches will go unnoticed, and I should enjoy my coffee as long as I can (up til midnight the night before surgery lol).... Anyone have any insight into this? I have never had to break a habit like this. The diet coke quit was because I know many GB patients can't drink bubbly drinks so I wanted to nip that. Thanks in advance
  16. As far as research on RNY, I googled my brains out, and have a close friend who had RNY two years ago so I picked her brain a bit.
  17. My surgeon will only do RNY on someone with GERD. Even someone with frequent heartburn, not actual GERD, he pushes towards RNY unless the patient is absolutely certain their frequent heartburn is caused by the food they ate (spicy/acidic). I wouldn't chance it, and just do the RNY
  18. Kind of weird and gross, but here goes I'm having surgery 1/19. I currently carry most of my extra weight in my belly. It hangs over and it just gross. I understand that I will never, ever have a flat belly unless I have skin removal surgery. My question is, is there a way to minimize the floppy skin? Wear a cincher? Douse myself in lotions? My doctor said I am still young enough (40) that my skin will likely bounce back in my face and arms... She said to moisturize. Ok, I can handle that and I also know that as I lose weight I will actually fit into undergarments that will help me look thinner under my clothes (spanx etc) just really worried that my floppy belly skin will be out of control! Goes without saying that my main goal of surgery is my health. Looking awesome is a bonus

    Fat apron/belly hangover question

    Thanks for replying :)

    To be sleeved or bypass?

Chose RNY because I have reflux, and also I need to lose a lot of weight.

    Caffeine

Ok thanks!! I will definitely look

    Caffeine

I'm going to look for that sweet and spicy! I have a vue, so the choices are limited because it's still fairly new, but I really like sleepy time - it doesn't make me sleepy when you say flavor syrups, do you mean the various drops that come in tiny bottles, along the lines of crystal lite or Gatorade drops?
