FML!! Surgery date is Monday and I've been battling a cold for three days. I'm not coughing except for a bit from post nasal drip. I am very prone to bronchitis - 9 times out of 10 a cold lands in my chest. I'm petrified my surgery is going to end up being cancelled. I am pushing airborne, zicam fast melts and zicam nasal spray... Along with lots of fluids and attempting to rest but that's tough with three kids lol. Any input on what may lead a surgeon to cancel?

Pre-Op Diet and not losing any weight
MamaTo3inNH replied to babylove8511's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you expecting your period? Mine is due in a few days I've only lost 6lbs... But I don't have to lose a set amount. If I were you I would go get some laxative meds and a diuretic pill. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (like, a gallon a day) Also cut out the sweet tea. Just water and your protein drink. Good luck!! -
I talked with my surgeon office. Was told since it is just a head cold (just my nose really) that it shouldn't be a problem. If I develop a fever or bad cough or really stuffy head to give them a call any time over the weekend. Also he said I should take Benadryl as regularly as I can tolerate over the weekend to dry out!

Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yummy combo: plain fage, about 1/4 of a vanilla premier protein pre made, and a dash of sugar free lemon jello. YUMMY! -
Thanks anaxila... I'm calling first thing. I was just reading some forum (found on google search) someone took Benadryl for a few days leading up to surgery to dry out. I'm going to ask about that. I'll keep you posted after I speak to someone tomorrow!

January RNY Surgery
MamaTo3inNH replied to MBM1Forever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1/19 date and im battling a head cold!!! Anyone know the rules for surgery when you're sick? What's a belly binder for? I have one that goes around my gut/apron to hold everything in as I lose... But should I have one to wear up higher near my incisions? -
I don't know if antibiotics will help a head cold? That's really all it is... Sniffles, slight hacking cough when I wake up from post nasal drip and sneezing. My head isn't even that congested. Im just nervous that between now and Monday it will travel to my chest kwim? Im calling the surgeon tomorrow. My husband is like "Ifbyou have to push it off a week or two til his next opening its no big deal"... But I want to get this over with kwim?

Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

That's good to know!! I know it's basically watery yogurt, with more cultures (depending on the brand)... Im absolutely picking up a small jug Thursday! -
Shrinking liver
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I called the RN today, actually, because when I feel it coming I drink emergen-c all day long (usually 6-7 packets!) and also take zicam. There's fructose in emergen-c, so that's a no go. I got airborne, which I don't care for the taste but I'll deal. Also got zicam fast melts, so I'm taking that as well. I'm glad i got sick now because I wouldn't have thought twice about using emergen-c post-op, I only inquired because of all the vitamins that I would be consuming so close to surgery. I'm sure it would have caused dumping post-op! -
What actually shrinks your liver? Calorie restriction? Fats?

Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was thinking the other day of getting a jug of It and doing half milk half keifer in my supplement instead of just skim milk as per usual -
Costco Premier premixed
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm going to try one of each tomorrow (I bought vanilla and chocolate) and if I like them I will go buy 3 more cases!before the sale runs out!! (I believe it goes through mid February) -
Shrinking liver
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So my pre-op diet is the same diet that RNY patients need to follow for 2-3 months post op (we call it stage two, some call it post op or soft?) two weeks of it, and the reason is twofold: 1) get used to how you will have to eat post op and 2) shrink your liver. I know once I have my new pouch I will do just fine eating what I am supposed to eat. I am, quite literally, dizzy with the lack of food and am now entering "run down catching a cold" stage which always, in the winter months, leads to bronchitis. Which will lead to surgery postponment... My surgery is scheduled 1/19. That's the reason I was asking. I just want to be able to eat *some* real food to keep my strength up for surgery, but also don't want to not shrink my liver. Thanks for all of your input -

Costco Premier premixed
MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You're both welcome! I took a chance - I've never had them but so many rave about it. I'm on my pre-op diet and we have a LOT of hockey games this weekend so they will come in extra-handy. If I really like them I'll have to go back and get more post-op -

Thanks everyone! I think I may have mistyped - she said there are yogurts with flavors that are ok (brand and specific type escapes me right now) ... She meant my actual one I had (store brand low fat vanilla) had added sugars. -

MamaTo3inNH replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I mixed sugar free vanilla pudding powder with plain fage yogurt just now. Very thick but tasty -
Post op, since our pouches can't really handle a whole supplement shake, can we make a whole one, stick it in the fridge and "pick at it" through out the day? Are there some brands that mix and sit better than others? Hubby thought maybe a premixed one?
