    How much time off work?

You'll need two weeks just to adjust to food and water. Your intake is SO little at the beginning. Week 2 you may feel like you could work, but its the food adjustment. And you could be tired from little calories. BTW... If you have PTO, take it! Enjoy the summer off!!

    Duration of Recovery time?

I took off 3.5 weeks. You need one week just to balance food and water again. You might be weak and tired from adjusting to such little calories. I am a week out and I could go back to a fast paced job, but want to let my body get to phase 3 foods, so I have more calories and energy in me.

    Just had surgery yesterday

Keep up on pain meds. I took mine for the first 2 days home. I am a week out and my big incision where my stomach came out still hurts a little. Sip sip sip. Each day you'll be able to sip more and more. I felt like I was doubling my amount each day. You might feel an indigestion pain when drinking or eating. Just slow it down!

    Sleep Apnea

I would just not use it. I never got much sleep in the hospital. Just make sure the head of your bed is elevated while sleeping.

    Hair loss?

Sorry to hear. I am scared of this, too. My surgery is June 24th. I once saw on here about "Topping" hair loss cover up. Check it out! It might help you hide it better until you get regrowth. They also have a brush for detangling without pulling or ripping hair out while wet. It is called the "wet hair" brush. Get it on Amazon or at Ulta. Hope this helps!

    Pain

JUST heard about this in my pre op class last Thursday. The dent is from how they stitch you up after they pull your stomache through that spot. It will all even out eventually.... As for the pain. I would just keep walking and don't get behind on your pain meds. Muscles tense and tighten when rested. KEEP MOVING! Good luck!!

    Bypass vs sleeve

Sleeve is just as good as bipass and you will have less malabsorption/ dumping with doing the sleeve. Sleeve is becoming the new way to go. I think you will be very happy with it.

    Wedding May 23

My last "6 month" weigh in is Apr 21st. They told me it can take about 2 months to have a surgery date. Only because you have to have insurance approval, then have your nutrition classes, and then start the 2 week liquid diet. My bet is that you wont be able to schedule before your wedding. They told me to plan on June or early July. That being said.... definitely DON'T do it before your wedding!!!!!!! I've heard weakness, nausea, getting used to eating can take months, pain from surgery (no sex...) etc... If I were you, I would marry, go on my honeymoon and live it up! Then come back and get down to business! Congrats!

    Process question

I was in the same situation, although my BMI is a bit higher. They told me that as long as I had a BMI over 30 at the end of the 6 months, I was good to go. I do not have any pre existing conditions either. I didn't mind the 6 months. I am in my last month. Didn't lose a ton, but some. I have really enjoyed the time to get used to the idea, changing my eating habits, etc... Good luck!

    First Consult

Go for the sleeve! Less dumping, less issues with being nutrient deficient. I am 33 and my Bariatric surgeon (who is the on the board of Bariatric surgeons and assesses other facilities for being top notch) said sleeve is becoming more main stream. People are having just as much success as the bipass patients. And... Removal of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) curbs cravings. I, too, am going through the 6 month insurance wait. I have 1 more month left! Excited to get going! Good luck!
  16. I have to have 6 months of medically supervised weight loss before my insurance will approve me, too. It isn't really 6 months, though. I have 6 weight checks, but my first one was on my consult day and then #2 was a month later. (make sense?) I am currently about to have my 3rd weigh in -in just a week. It sucks to wait, but in the meantime, I am learning to eat slower, eat more protien, eat less sugar, and drink more Water. All which you have to do post surgery.

Employer FMLA / Short Term Disability

It's the same where I work, too. Before STD kicks in, they take 40 hours (full work week) and then I get the benefits started the following week.
  18. I am still pre-op and need to know how do i take my pills for depression. I have serious withdrawal whenever i forget to take my depression pill for a couple days, so there is NO WAY i can't take it. Suggestions, please! Thanks!
  19. Seems like... the more I read, the more people are having a HARD time getting in enough protien right after having WLS. Why don't people just add a tablespoon of GENEPRO protien into their broth etc? Seems easy enough to me. Am I missing something here? Do people not know about Genepro? Hitting your Protein target seems easy this way. So why don't more people do it? Is it a cost thing?? I am still 4 months away from surgery, so I am trying to get this all figured out...
  20. I'm scared of this feeling, too. But... knowing that there is light at the end of the crappy beginning tunnel keeps me going to getting the surgery. Each day you will get better and better. Remember, your stomache is in a state of shock right now. Keep at it!!! It's ok to have the feelings of regret, but once you are recovered in a few weeks you will LOVE your sleeve!! AND THE NEW YOU!!!!

    DISNEY WORLD!

Love DISNEY!!!! I can't wait to have my surgery and experience all it has to offer being slim and healthy!! Can you tell what is was like eating there?? Was it hard with all the food choices or did you find stuff you could eat that agreed with your sleeve?? You look AMAZING!!!! Great Job! Keep up the great work!!!

    What to ask the doctor.

Ask about support post op!! My surgeon's office has support groups, a free one year gym membership, and meeting with and exercise physiologist, TONS of nutritionists meetings, etc. The more the merrier to enhance your success!
  24. Awesome pics!! I am so worried about those first few weeks... My mind can be my biggest enemy...
  25. I cracked a chair at a baby shower I hosted at someones house. I just pretended to stand and "present" the rest of the shower and visit instead of sitting. Nobody noticed and I never told anyone. I was horrified. I never even told the lady that owned the house. I wonder how and when she found out about the chair and if she thought it was me that did it. She never said anything... but I have to do this surgery. I often dream of the things I could do with my kids. No more hiding. I want to LIVE this life!
