Thanks for the icons Amberwaves...I'll be joining everyone on Thursday!
-
Amber I was freaking out last week as well, then I went on the general discussions thread 'before & after' pics and saw how amazing everyone looks 6-12 months on and it got me so excited to start the journey. Try it! L.A. I'm banding on the same day as you and completely understand how the clam has set in...one more week!

Here's my before pic taken on Ole Years night 2007 so a week ago!

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to join you!

Laurieloo I'm being banded on Jan 17th as well. No pre op diet required but I have decided to do one of my own. I'm excited but also getting more anxious everyday! How are you feeling?
-

Not a good conversation with hubby last night.....
SJK replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
what a great thread! My DH is very supportive but did not take the nitty gritty seriously. He is one who will google everything he hears about to read up on it and did no research of his own on the lapband. He did not seem to take an interest in the understanding the food phases, the effect on me and our lives. I had a long heart to heart with him and told him it hurt that he was taking no interest. Now he has read Dr. Ortiz's book and has been making broth and soup for my liquid stage. I guess communication really is the way! -
Congrats! let us know how things progress

TulipStar you make a hellava good point, maybe it's time curb those 'last suppers'. Mumof2boys, what a great story and I love the party idea!
-
Congrats Kawanabear!

I am being banded in January, no pre op diet required and I have a similar attitude to Trish and Ang especially with holidays around! I will be on vacation for a week until Jan 2nd where I know food and alcohol will be plentiful so I have pledged to myself that come Jan 3rd it all ends and I focus on eating well, making that change from 2 weeks before surgery.

RedTulips3 the Biggest Loser transformations were AMAZING!!! I was lying there watching thinking why can't I just do what they did (of course they did go on a farm for 3-4 months) when one of the contestants voiced exactly what we all fear...she said 90% of people but their weight back on and I hope I am in the 10% that make this a permanent life change...and it made me 100% sure about the band becasue we can all lose weight, its the struggle after that we lose so with this tool the odds are probably flipped...10% put it back on and 90% of us are going to be successful permanently!

Oh and L.A. I think you tell whenever it feels right. Remember I said I live on a small island and everyone knows your business? When I went for my blood and echo tests I bumped into 4 people I know at the hospital, all asking what I was doing there! My family knows and 2 friends. I plan on telling my in-laws the day AFTER surgery!
-
L.A. we are scheduled for surgery on the same day! I just got my final all clear for surgery. One month exactly until the change that gives us control! Good luck on your journey.
-
HI all. Lots happening this week! I met with my doctor on Sat, then the nutritionist yesterday, blood tests this morning and ekg this afternoon. How is everyone holding up? I'm curious to find out who you have chosen to tell. I think I'll wait until after surgery to tell people outside my family. The only problem when you live on a small island is everyone knows your business!

Thanks for the words of encouragement! My panic has gone and excitement for the future has taken back over...watched the Biggest Loser last night and was inspired! My amazing supportive DH also gave me the 'investment in our future' pep talk and I know it's the right decision. I wish it was tomorrow!

Hi everyone, I'm newto the forum. Luvrocks I'm glad you are doing better. Its all very overwhelming. I'm scheduled for surgery on January 17th. Going to do my tests this Saturday. Starting to get VERY nervous and feeling a bit guilty as I'm self pay, basically I started wondering if I can do it by myself (for the umpteenth time) instead of spending all this money! Penny2, sorry for your trouble. I'm surprised Ireland does not have the facilities, I live in Trinidad and Tobago and luckily we have a very experienced surgeon. I'm so happy to other people who are literally going through the same things at the same time. I'm a research maniac and am on my fourth book about banding and even watched the operation video...maybe I've had too much information and it's making me panicky!

On The Way To Being Banded For Life
SJK replied to BabyCat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
BabyCat, thats great progress! Its really helpful to hear about the process first hand and how everyone deals with it. Cant wait for January 17th now! -
Molly Brown, good to know others have the same concern. How did you get through your first Thanksgiving banded?
-
Hi all, I weigh 217lbs with a BMI of 37 and have yoyoed all my life with dieting. I'm 32 years old and I just set my surgery date for January 17th which has me both excited and very nervous. I am very active, exercising about 4-5 times a week so food is really where I lack control. It sounds silly but one of the things I am most nervous about is my social life. I live in Trinidad & Tobago and my husband and I socialise a lot and Trinidad has a big drinking, partying and eating culture! I see the life post surgery as a path to getting healthy, exercising more and my husband and I are even talking about setting a goal of participating in a 5k late next year. I'm curious how others have dealt with a big change in their social lifestyles. I noticed a few of you discussing Thanksgiving, how have you dealt/ plan to handle the holiday. We do not have Thanksgiving but Christmas and Carnival are huge celebrations surrounded with food and alcohol. At Christmas you go from house to house and it's seen as rude to not have a drink or something to eat!
