    Dehydration Question

did you also go off caffeine? I got a headache from that but no pain in the neck and shoulders. are you sweating? the NUT told us if we could pinch skin on the backside of our hands and it go back into place that we are pretty good to go with being hydrated. if the skin stood up and slowly went back down then we needed to hydrate. What about the bathroom? are you going? is it straw colored or dark? I would call the doctors office and in the meantime try to keep something down. I am in florida and it is humid so it can sneak up on you quickly.
  2. I cant say we all fill full on four shrimp or one forkful of birthday cake. I can tell you about 1/4 -1/2 cup of food is about it depending on the last time I ate. I am 3 weeks 2 days out - Energy has fluctuated for me and I was told being hydrated along with getting in the minimum Protein has probably been the culprit. My doctor said to expect being a little more tired than normal even if I kept up with hydration and protein. He said it is your body adjusting (going into shock) over the amount of calorie intake and that it should pass after about month 4 or so. I do not regret my new sleeve friend at all.

    Weight effecting your kids?

my uncle was over at the house with my aunt who had brought me some clothes she thought I would like. I love them both tremendously but both of them make comments that are hard to hear from people who have been my "parents" since losing my mom in 1986 and my dad in 1970. Things like "it was the biggest size they had" to "you may not be able to do____because you are so big" is what I have heard as recently as the first of May. I would be able to handle my 5 y/o grandson saying that I have a big belly (he has told me) because I know he is being honest. I DO have a big belly. But to hear an adult family members make comments like I have heard is hard. I finally said something like this to my uncle "gee I know, tent sized clothing, right?" I think I made my point. I was wearing around a 2X. I know there are larger sized clothes but to roll your eyes and say that to your adult neice? They came over a few days ago - no negative clothing or weight comments
  6. @@joatsaint I am glad to see "scale junkies" are not just a girl thing. I truly haven't met a guy who would admit it. Even athletes and men who are overweight that I have known over the years wouldn't admit to jumping on the scale three and four times a day. I am pretty good about only weighing post-op in the morning. But if the weight is higher than the day before, I am on it 3-4 times that day, after work. I put "Taylor" out of sight and I am not going to get on it until Sunday morning <hopefully> .
  7. @@LipstickLady thanks for clarifying the 3 week stall. I have lost weight over the years and of course gained it back and I am familiar with the lose weight...stall (plateau)....lose weight....stall (plateau). I just haven't seen it move in two days and I am seeing "Taylor" more and more. I will keep trying on those tight shorts and see if I can get them up Thanks for your words of wisdom, as always you are good at pointing out the reality of our new life. The scales numbers don't really matter, just good for keeping me on track. Jane
  8. Happy Birthday! I think I would make it a very light drink with no soda. I am only three weeks out and have thought about what I would do when, if, I ever decided to have a drink again.

    Frustrated!

I am in a stall right now and moved the scale - it happens and I know it, just is intimidating after you have had surgery because your mind starts screwing with you };]

    Received my surgery date!

@@no onions Welcome! I started my journey about two months before you and stopped in Dec. I didn't feel comfortable with the questioning of why I had decided to do the band. I had changed from sleeve to band for my adult daughter, she didn't want me to do anything permanent and I was ok with either it or the sleeve. My original choice was the sleeve (which is now 22 DAYS old). I too was first in that day for surgery on the 6th of May. Remember you prob wont be able to drink until you do the leak test. for me that was about noon the next day. I was dying for something to drink. drink plenty of Water as late as possible (mine was midnight) for hydration. Keep us posted, we have a spot here on the losers bench for you!

  16. @@notforthefaint I am SW of Jacksonville. I went through NF bariatrics & surgery at St. Vincent's in Jax. Had a great surgeon and pretty easy (so far) adjustment/recovery. Where are you having surgery?
  17. I agree with Bufflehead. I see my surgeon next Tuesday and I may be down about 26 or so pounds by then and I think that's pretty good from my starting weight. That is not based on my pre-surgical weight which was 261 (?) from his office. I think as long as we are losing - that's the plan - we shouldn't be compared to others because we all don't lose the same and not as fast (men/women, heavier start weight/lower start weight & younger/older). All men (women) are created equal, but we don't lose the exact same way.

@@Bethson I totally agree with @@Vikingsfan8178 about the meds and the life changing decision. If you can get off the pain meds and do OTC if you can. I am only 3 weeks and 1 day out and I have read about this a lot on these forums. I personally didn't feel this way. My thoughts were more about losing my hair. I am not a girly girl but my ONLY attribute I did manage to hold onto was my hair. Its grey now and thinner now that I am 52 and now in menopause, the thought of losing it (because of the sleeve) just kind of freaks me out. I was assured it will come back....so I have decided I may join the pink ladies (Red Hat) and start wearing some funky pink hats:D I It will get better and you will be thankful for the "tool" you decided to get to help you get healthier and live a better life

    My new beginning

  24. I researched and decided late October to do WLS. I talked to my hubby and we both went to seminar that the doctor has for information purposes and that night set up an appt to meet with him. The seminar was Nov 4th and the first appt was Nov 11th (Veterans Day). They set up both chest xray & EKG to be done same day (I was off from work). I then had to do three monthly classes and meet with Nut and see head doctor. I got irritated with them questioning my choice for lap-band and pushing the sleeve. The bariatric doctor said I was a good candidate for either. I was originally going to do the band for the lesser "down" time and to appease my adult daughter. She didn't want me to do anything permanent. I cancelled my class for December & February. I continued to research to find out what I had missed about all of the complications and issues with the lap-band. I knew about all of it already and it made me question if the doctor just wasn't telling us everything at the seminar. He had told us about the erosion and slipping. It happens. I decided to start back and had my surgery three weeks ago. I messed up by cancelling because I had to wait about 6 weeks to get the 2nd and 3rd class done. I went with my original choice: sleeve. I am thankful I backed off and did my research. If I hadn't stopped in December I would probably be closer to 3 months out, but I needed to be comfortable with my choice.

    Portion sizes

We are only 3 weeks out (I am two days older, May 6th) and I think we have to listen to the "full" signal and stop. Think about it, our stomachs are still probably a bit irritated and most importantly, why push it? Are you hungry? NUT told me to eat ONLY when I was hungry and STOP when I was full. She also said don't eat because you THINK you should be eating (ex: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you should eat something to kick your metabolism off first thing, etc.) I drink my Protein shake on the way to work because I am not suppose to have drinks at my desk and it has Vitamins in it that I am supposed to take. That is at 4am - I am generally not hungry until lunch (11am). Thirsty, yes. Hungry, no.
