Waiting for insurance and over eating
jane13 replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oops forgot to add that we all struggle and just because you are now doesn't mean you will later. I hated the liquid post-op diet but I survived it because I wanted to do what the doctors told me. Follow your doctors directions and when you need a sounding board get on-line here and fire off an email:) Good luck! -
Waiting for insurance and over eating
jane13 replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AWD12368 you may struggle with the Protein a lot of us have at times, esp at first. I was lucky to so far not have any problems other than hydration. I truly eat a small amount (1/4 to 1/2 cup) and I am generally done. we eat out a lot so hubby is cool with ordering a la carte to his meal and we split things like veggies. this weekend was Longhorns and I had a skewer of shrimp (4) a la carte and half of the broccoli and was full enough to have leftovers for lunch yesterday! -

I don't miss the food, I miss the socializing part of it. I had surgery on the 6th and it will pass (hunger). Make sure you are NOT thirsty because it will make you think you are hungry and then you will start to miss our old friends Dorito, Little Debbie and old man McDonalds! -
f/u dr appointment today. So I would say 20, atleast. Not sure how scale at doctors satellite office is compared to his main office. how much have you lost?

congrats on the 30 lb loss!

Weight loss after surgery
jane13 replied to kitty66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kitty66 today is my follow-up and I will be 1 day short of 4 weeks post (I was sleeved 5/6/15). I have been at a stall for 5 days. It happens, I have lost weight too many times to NOT know this but still.....I am hoping doctor will be happy with my progress. I am working hard for the water in-take :/ -
@@MzStockton - I had mine at St. Vincents Southside. It was a great experience. Dr. Uchal and his staff took great care of me before and after. I wanted to go to Riverside but I also wanted to be first in that morning for surgery. The best appointment for that was May 6th 2015. No regrets! I have BCBS federal employee (spouse), had 3 classes (one each month) and a nut & psych appointment as well. I had medical documentation showing numerous attempts at prescription weight loss. Paperwork was submitted third week in March and approval paperwork rec in mail by April 3rd. I had surgical appointment about two weeks later (21st?) and could've had surgery on the 29th because I started pre-surgery diet pretty much as soon as I completed last class in March.

@@sjuarez - what about calories? you have to eat a minimum amount and I think we all get wrapped up in protein and SF and forget we do need a certain amount of calories in our diet.

best wishes and let us know when you are out and ready to claim a spot on the losers bench!

@@Gladys62 - this is my only fear post-op. My surgeon said it is normal and most everyone loses hair. It should stop after about 3 months. I have started looking at hats!

4 days post op. Having troubles
jane13 replied to OnMyOwnJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
don't lie down it will make the reflux worse. You may want to elevate your bed 2-3 inches and it will help as well. cranberry juice I love but it gave me heartburn if I drank too much pre-op. I mixed mine with apple juice about 50-50. Post-op I still mix when I crave a juice but it is more 40 Water, 30 cranberry and 30 apple. those could be made into popsicles as well. I couldn't stomach the SF store bought ones pre-op popsicles. It was extremely bitter to where I actually wretched two different times. they went straight to the trashcan! -
I have been eating avocadoes since I was on soft food about two weeks ago. I LOVE them! I sprinkle chilli pepper on it and I am going to try it with tuna in place of the mayo prob for lunch today. I have noticed I seem to be a little colder than norm. I guess its the 25lb sweater that I threw away!

My first appointment
jane13 replied to choosehope's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@ - make your choice based on YOU. The doctor will probably have an opinion on what he recommends. my doctor said I was a candidate for either band or sleeve. I didn't want bypass. He said it was my decision, love Dr Uchal, and I waffled. My thought was sleeve after seminar. told adult daughter and she said don't do anything permanent. I changed to band. it was also going to be less down time and out patient, which I did like. I decided I needed something permanent and I didn't like the idea of the foreign object in me (and the fills, and un-fills, etc). research and make the decision based on you. back out. do the surgery....it your life. YOU have to adjust and live with your decision. I don't regret my choice at all. I have lost 25lbs probably 25 times in my 52 years and I was done with losing weight (and finding it back on my hips, butt and belly!) -
@@Jessica Radcliff - I am one day behind you and also stalling. I see my doc for the f/u visit tomorrow and I was hoping to be under 240 I have caught myself chewing and ALMOST swallowing before I had the food to mush! and YES I feel like my brain is on power saving mode or something! I am NOT alone!!!!!

@NikkiDoc - I feel the same way about the alcohol, but I haven't done the follow-up to ask, if I do. same scenario though - hot tub, hubby...glass of wine @@bikrchk - I thought I would miss pizza. I ordered one and picked it up otw home from work a couple of Fridays ago. Not my preferred pizza (pre-surgery) it was thin crust all meat. I got the narrowest slice and took a bite from the end away from the crust and chewed it, and then spit it out. I "ate" about 2 more bites and it went in the trash. Havent even thought about another piece since

Welcome to the losers bench! Stay on doctors orders and if you can get off pain meds and use OTC you will feel more yourself sooner. I used a heating pad at night and a pillow to support my stomach.

do what the doctors tell you and research as much as much as possible and if you need to ask a question - come here. you will get a multiple of answers for simple things like how can I get more Water intake during the day or which is the easier to use blender for just smoothies. I have been coming here for a little over 6 months and had surgery on May 6th. this is a great welcoming group here~

Nine days post-op and Gaining Weight HELP!
jane13 replied to VSG_Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Hello, my name is Jane, and I am.....a scale junkie :/
jane13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now 3 weeks & 2 days post and I am pretty sure I have hit the INFAMOUS three week stall (or plateau). I hate that inner me that needs to know that the scale is moving. My follow-up with surgeon is Tuesday and I would really like to be below 240 by then...2 lousy pounds. I have, for some unknown reason, had it in my head since the appt was scheduled that I wanted to be in the 230's and I haven't made it and its driving me nuts. I have already had a couple of small NSVs and its awesome but the scale thing is something I have fought since my twenties. Anyone else out there a scale junkie? How are you coping? I moved it out of sight and am not getting on it but every third day. "Taylor" (scale manufacturer) and I will meet up on Sunday morning (sans clothes, of course) and hope I have made some progress. -
