  1. @@WL WARRIOR - I worked for about 10 years at a local grocery store and we donated all kinds of stuff to quite a few local food pantries. One had usually a specific list of things they needed (ex: Peanut Butter, oatmeal, rice). We always obliged and employees also donated out of pocket. The other one I remember DID have a lot of the local farmers donate stuff and that was sometimes okay, sometimes not. We donated bananas and fruit from our produce dept but the stuff from local farmers was not something I would eat in general (ex: Collards, turnips, rutabagas...) A lot of times vendors would donate if they were there and the pantry folks were there looking for donations, they didn't want to transport it back to their warehouse. that's where the baked goods and candy primarily came from.
  2. Its funny how different our "directions" are for each of us here. We get on the forum we wonder why one can eat this and the other cant. My doctor & NUT both said to eat ONLY when I get hungry. Sip some Water first and make sure its hunger (about 20min) and then if I still feel hungry, eat. go figure ;P
  3. Trolls: Don't come here if you are just here to talk trash. Hopefully everyone recognizes the user names and doesnt fuel the drama - just saying.

  4. @@kaysunshine - hang in there it will be so worth it, trust me. Most of us have had struggles getting to THE day. Mine was first doctor appointment (11/11/2014) with surgeon and they had scheduled EKG and chest x-ray, it was a total FUBAR situation. I made it thru that. Then the psych & insurance coordinator basically telling me in December that I was choosing the wrong procedure because "no one does lap-band anymore", "too many post issues" and you won't lose enough... I stopped the whole process in December 2014. By mid-January I was getting back into the line-up for pre-requisite nutrition classes (of course I also hit my highest weight by then 282) - I haven't looked back. By the way - I got the sleeve, which was my original choice. I opted for the band to begin with to please my adult daughter and for the out-patient and short recovery time aspect. I am thankful I went with my "gut" and chose the sleeve - NO REGRETS!

    Shellfish Anyone

@@JohnT surgery was 5/6/15 I am a little over 3 mos post. I had shrimp probably 3-4 weeks out. Been a staple in my diet! tea now is unsweetened with the sugar free lemonade liquid stuff (like Mio) added. An "Arnold Palmer" - but I quit sugar in my tea all together. I haven't had the opportunity to eat oysters but as soon as I do, I will! My favorite snack I haven't tried is popcorn. I have pretty much been "corn free" since surgery.

    Shellfish Anyone

@@JohnT - shrimp is one of my regular meals (grilled/blackened) - no issues. I also chew it really well and cut it into smaller one bite pieces where before WLS I just bit it off and chewed. I grew up on fish, shrimp & sweet tea! I gave up sweet tea - not giving up shrimp and fish too
  9. @@kmvalade - that's a lot to go thru and to be worried about not losing. Focus on getting healed with those areas and just monitor your intake and move around (walk, swim, stationary bike) as much as possible.
  10. @@nevadapinkprincess - are you doing ok? haven't seen an update from doctors office yet from you...

    Omg food

@@dsheive - put your fork/spoon down while you are chewing too. It will keep you from accidentally putting more food in and possibly over eating. Been there, done that...not a good feeling :/

    Eating out.

@@dsheive - DH and I eat out a lot and I have to remind myself to not worrying about leaving food. I usually get a doggie bag. Anyways I hate to bag up a bite or two and instead I ate it and found out my "window" was showing full (not cool). It only took doing that twice to realize - STOP! same with drinking while eating. I just don't get a drink at all. I get strange looks, but that "habit" is still there. I will drink coffee before I eat on Sat/Sun - but that the ONLY meal and I don't drink once the food is there.

    I've gained weight!

@@auttinicole - has this been documented at the doctors office, like at an appointment? are you on a pre-op diet? You may want to call and talk to someone at the doctors office they probably can answer that. Do you have other comorbidities? like HBP, diabetes, sleep Apnea, BMI over 40....
  16. @@JessterNC - what about keeping a Protein drink on hand for that long stretch between Breakfast and lunch? unjury has non-flavored protein you can add to your Water or flavored water. It will head off the hunger pains. I was told to not eat a bunch of small meals. I was told to only eat when hungry. Thirst sometimes presents itself as hunger. Sip water (protein in it) and have a smoothie available around 10...that my suggestion, until you go to lunch. dehydration and lack of protein will make you feel tired. Are you on BP meds? I had to break mine in half after losing about 25lbs or my BP went too low.

    What would you do?

@@LessOfMe0503 - good suggestion about asking what her surgeon/nut said. @@mommyfrog3 - but like @@jenn1 said - you can't change other people. She only ate an 1/8 of a plate, not a great decision for food either IMO, but she may have "binged" that day to Celebrate. You didn't say how she was doing as far as losing weight, eating her Protein, drinking Water, etc. Maybe that's all it was - a B'day celebration.

@@joego2014 - God was looking out for you no doubt! Thank God you are here to post! I think it is great that you were able to post without being extremely negative about the WLS. I am sure there are a lot off pre-ops freaking out reading this. I was also sleeved the same day! I had NO ISSUES at all. I am down 70lbs today from my HW. please keep us posted on your progress and welcome to the losers bench!
  23. @@juno5 - I bought the Citracal "petites" thinking they would be smaller than a reg M&M - not! My NUT said anything larger we would have to crush. If you can find chewable ones get them and look for the ones with the D3 added if possible!
  24. Men will pay more attention. Unfortunately some women stop a friendship with a female friend, when she loses weight. Hate to put THAT out there but we have some shallow sisters that get a wee bit (jealous?) when we lose weight.

@@Aga - good morning. Detoxing - yes, did you have a pre-op diet? a lot of us struggled through that before surgery. Being that you hopefully on a post-op diet as well the liquids should be a little easier to get in. what kind of yogurt are you eating? hydrate (sip) as often as possible and watch carbs. make smart food choices and chew, chew, chew.
