Time off work? One week? More?

@@itstimealready - I had the sleeve and have a "desk job" too. I am required to lift 40# so I had to be careful and NOT lift anything over 10# until I was cleared with doctor. I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work not that Monday, but the week following....went nuts at the house. I should've gone back that first Monday. I had no gas pains, vomiting, etc. I am very blessed with my WLS and recovery..... No Regrets!

    Water Retention

@ - are you doing the Halloween challenge? I love it because it challenges me.

    Water Retention

@ good morning! I deal with the same thing around that TOM even though I am menopausal and haven't had one in about 4 months. I don't know if doctors give RXs for Water retention post surgery because we already are kind of high risk for dehydration usually if you are retaining it means one of two things. too much salt or you are not drinking enough fluids and your body is saving (retaining) every last ounce because it's doing what it thinks is right. IMO...check salt contents in food, make sure you are drinking Fluid that are also low in caffeine and stay off the scale. good luck and I am dealing will the same issue. Scale will move....just have to stay the course and off the scale!

    How long was ur process?

@@nomorequitting - I have BCBS federal and there's a required 3 classes that are done one a month. my consult was 11/11/14. I did chest xray and EKG on that same day. had first class in December. got passed off with psyche doctor and another lady who told me that lap band was not a good choice. I had originally wanted for do the sleeve but changed to band because my daughter didn't want me to do something permanent. so.I cancelled out the last two classes and went thru holidays miserable and putting on weight. I researched the sleeve and started back up in January. I unfortunately had to wait for the 3rd class to cycle back around and that was March, also ended up having to do stress test in March too. surgery was 5/6...
  6. @@Whitney1968 surgery was 5/6. my HW was 282, but that was during my pre-op prepping doing the required nutrition classes that were one month a part and I had to do three. doctor has my start weight at 266. I have a lot of personal drama going on right now and I am definitely not focused on water and protein. my weight hasn't moved in almost two weeks. I am also five years older. I have a stall or very minimal loss about every three weeks, like a menstrual cycle

    Anxious

@@cookies_queen - your taste buds sometimes change too so I wouldn't load up on too much on any one particular item. If you do hang on to the receipts so you can return them. I didn't experience a big difference in taste pre versus post. I NEVER liked the taste of SF popsicles. The SF Jello was "so so" before surgery and made me gag post, so the little pack of four I managed to eat over about a 2-3 month stretch. The unflavored Protein from unjury is great because you can add it to a lot of things.

    Anxious

@@cookies_queen - I agree with @ start working towards the pre-op diet and go from there. Getting use to drinking after eating/or before is a tough one as well as eliminating caffeine pre-surgery. Find out if you have to lose a certain amount of weight or if your insurance will negate your surgery if you lose too much ~ before you jump in too deep too early. Good luck!

    Halloween Challenge!

    @stephh - no change 203 :l
  13. @@ellie123 - I started out with roughly the same stats and I am very happy that I got my sleeve and like you mentioned I wish I had done it sooner. I was also pre-diabetic and hypertensive. I probably have sleep apnea as well but that has not been diagnosed. My experience has been very good. I have had no issues. I do eat more calories than most and therefore my weight loss hasn't been as phenomenal as others but I am losing and that is my goal. I have some personal drama right now and honestly I haven't been as diligent with my Water & Protein the last two weeks and the scale has shown it. IMO if I had three surgeries that I could wipe out in one, I would jump on it. My WLS was my first and hopefully my last intrusive surgery. I had wisdom teeth and surgery on my finger where I was put under and I hope I have done my last. As far as the liquid diet post-op unless the co-worker has the same doctor the diet may be different. Generally the liquid diet is two weeks +/- to give your tummy time to heal post-op. I had 3 days, then on the pureed food, like scrambled eggs, tuna, etc. I had started a pre-op diet before my surgical appointment and like you I could've had my surgery about 9 days later. I wanted to be first in for surgery that morning so I ended up having it about 2-1/2 weeks later. Your fears are not uncommon - follow your doctors orders and you will be fine. There are a lot of people here who have "been there and done that" and we can chime in on your concerns and guide you back to your medical team for serious physical questions/symptoms/concerns. The "mental" part of it is where we can help best - Good luck and I have your seat saved here on the losers bench!

    Meeting with Surgeon

@@retrieverguy - I asked what concerned me - lack of energy (how long) and hair loss (again how long). He answered both and has been right. The energy picked up when I could eat a little better and I cut my BP meds in half. I am now down to a quarter of a pill. Hair loss is a common post surgery issue...sucks, especially for a woman :/ The surgery was scheduled at my last pre-surgery meeting (guess that's why they call it that). I was pretty set on the idea of being first one on for surgery. I didn't want to wait in pre-op. I have only had surgery once before (index finger, last summer) and I was scared then and especially have WLS. I could've had my surgery within 8 days of that appointment because I had already started my pre-surgery diet pretty much and they were happy that I had lost weight already.

@@sbagby1960 - that's what we "losers" like to hear from the new "newbies" (haha). I am only 4.5 months out but I think a lot of the pre-ops need to realize that it does get better for most of us pretty quickly. Congrats!
  18. @@Hugs :) - get up and move around as much as possible. Are you sipping through a straw????
  19. @@gobeit - I went to a preliminary seminar with hubby and after listening to the surgeon I felt like I was more comfortable with the sleeve. My adult daughter didn't want me to do anything permanent. Surgeon said I could choose between band or sleeve. So I headed down the lap-band path. I liked the idea of out-patient and being back to work in a day or so....long story short. I did the sleeve and am soooo happy with my choice. My HW was 282 and I am now hovering around 205-203....surgery was 5/6/15. No regrets.
