  1. You can ask, beg, cry, yell and scream and if he did the surgery TODAY would he be ready (prepared mentally) for life post-op? He has to want it ~ like you did

    No pre op diet

yes exactly - follow your surgical teams pre-op requirements~
  3. Don't have anyone change the menu. If you are allowed ham, depending on what was your post-op directions were, you get a small slice and chew it very well and eat a deviled egg and maybe a bite or so of sweet potatoes. You CAN enjoy the big eating holidays. You just have to eat smart (protein) and smaller amounts. I was sleeved last May and ate at the holidays - just smart/smaller amounts. Now as far as the pre-op person (above) she has no other options. YOU "got this" !

@@candykane88 - how are you doing now? Relax this weekend and watch those Cadbury bunnies!
  6. @@Fatty McFatster - how are you doing? Dilaudid (sp?) was my husbands best friend during this time. Make sure the RNS keep you comfortable and like others said don't go home with out the proper meds. Did that once with hubby. Without being too graphic he was passing large clots and it was causing the peristalsis (continuous passing of urine down the ureter) to stop and that was causing a lot of the pain. The ureter is inflamed and that was the purpose of the stent, to keep the urine flowing. According to the urologist the inability to have the "flow" cause the pain, not the actual stone. Now if the stone BLOCKS passage then the stone is the enemy... praying for you - -

    weight loss time span

Everyone doesn't lose at the same rate and other factors also play into that as well. Age, gender, how much you weighed starting out, etc - so whatever responses you get don't get upset if you don't meet or exceed those losses. Some exercise as soon as possible, others cant because of other issues, some cannot eat a lot (post-op diets vary immensely), others can - a lot of variables in play post-op. Follow your doctors guidelines, Protein, Water, move and you will be very happy regardless I am sure I lost a little over 55lbs from day of surgery weight, I am 53.

    Emotional Wreck

hormones flushing through your system as you cleanse your body prepping for surgery. it will continue post-op, thats why they say don't make any big decisions post-op. take a deep breath, warn your family and friends and remind yourself you will be a bit "emotional" for a bit

    NSV - shorts! (xposted)

where I work I can dress in jeans/shorts/etc so I have been wearing clothes that I bought 10-12 years ago hoping to wear. Now they are falling down, I look like one of the teenage boys will all of his boxers exposed if I am not careful. I told hubby yesterday I have got to get a pair or two of shorts. I proceeded to go back through the smallest jeans/shorts I have and I can wear all of them but one pair!!! To me these are the best NSVs. The scale hasn't moved but I know my body is changing because my clothes are fitting differently and everyone keeps complimenting my weight loss and that I must have lost more weight (since Christmas). Not! I have lost around 4-5 lbs since before Christmas so the inches must be coming off. I will take that.

@@excitedforweightloss - your story is not unique unfortunately. There are a lot of fears going into WLS and no one is immune. Welcome to the family:D
  12. @@Fatty McFatster - hubby has been through this twice - not pretty. The stent removal was without meds by the way, for hubby, and it was like a l-o-n-g spring (not straight). He said they put it in while he was under anesthesia and why they take it out like that (nothing for pain) is cruel. Praying this ends for you soon.

    Is it normal..

I just wanted to be under 200 first. my surgeon never gave me a specific goal pre-op. At my second post-op appointment we discussed weight and I told him I would be happy around 165-170, which I weighed 155-160 most of my life. He said to shoot for 150-155. His reasoning was that people tend to put on 10% post-op, around 18mos-2yrs out, so if I hit 150 and gained 15 I would still be in a good range. For my height 163 is the high weight for a "normal" BMI. I am also past 50 and the excess skin just doesn't appeal to me at 180, so I can only imagine at 150 what I would look like ;(

    Bah Humbug!

I am so sorry to hear about your unexpected trip to ER and the A1C stuff, but I think you need to be heart healthy as well for the surgery. I had tachycardia post-op and was held late the day after surgery. The doctor checked me out thoroughly before sending me home to ensure I didn't have a blood clot. Everything happens for a reason. I do agree though about the A1C stuff - that was the office not following up with you and you could've been working on getting it lower the last 3 months. Did they check your A1Cs while you were there?

    Your support person

My husband actually took off the day of surgery (Wednesday), Thursday and Friday. I was in the hospital until Thursday afternoon. So really he could've only taken Friday off. My son was unemployed and was in/out if he could find a side job. I was off the following week (bored to tears). Like KindaFamiliar I was up and moving and could've gone to work that Monday but I had already scheduled it off so I stayed home I walked a lot, drank Water and ate Protein. Against my hubby and sons protests I also moved stuff from our big storage shed into our house. We were having a modular home built and it was being completed while we lived in a 25' RV. We moved in 10 days after my surgery. I was toting plastics garbage bags of small items into the house and watching the contractors finish up. Had a pool - couldn't swim, wasn't allowed to mow the yard, dog would've dragged me if I walked him (didn't want to pull any internal stiches). I had to stay busy, I was blessed that I had an easy recovery
  16. @@princessprotein - and what you LIKE the taste of now - you may HATE post-op. The smell, flavor, texture, etc all get a little dicey post-op, so hold-off getting more until you get post-op and even then you will find that that will change some too. Congrats on being on the "waiting for a surgery date" bench. FYI that's your RE-Birthday by the way....mine is May 6th - I will be 1!

    Possible TMI about sexy time

@@Lexigurl82 - you are exactly right and @@Sophie74656 needs to hear it from someone who is going thru the same sort of Sh!t - right now. Yes, divorce sucks. I married at 22 after knowing my BF for 5 years. I divorced him 7 years later. It killed me to think that my love for him wasn't ENOUGH and neither were our two children. I loved him more than he loved me and that was obvious and hard to wrap my brain around. I wish I could've talked to him before he passed away and I could have told him thank you for our two kids. A few years after the divorce, the anger was gone. It was sad to think he would never "know" his kids. The he got sick and died at 37, 6-1/2 after we divorced. My son who looks a lot like him doesn't have really any memories because last time he saw him alive he was 2-1/2 and he is currently in re-hab for drugs...our daughter is married with two kids and done very well and struggles with her feelings wit her brothers drug issues. It wasn't easy/pretty but I did get "over" it. He slept around, was verbally abusive and I thought only smoking pot. I found out later it was a lot more than that....naïve. Don't take him back - please....either of you. Listen to an old lady from Florida....
