After the honeymoon period, could you live without sleeve
jane13 replied to originalrocklobster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As an old "newbie" (almost 1 year post-op) I really enjoyed the questions and the answers from the "Vets" THANK YOU! -
@@Sophie74656 - spin the negatives you have dealt with into a positive - lost your job - you may have needed to move on to another company/job anyways to get a fresh start sleeve - you are getting your life headed on a more healthier track lost a furry friend - no positive spin I can easily suggest as I do not know the circumstances. Maybe sick or aging to the point he/she was unable to have a 'normal' life? soon to be ex - another 200lb loss of dead weight. If you are not getting emotional support and he distanced himself you are better off without him. jane

Feeling odd eating at restaurants
jane13 replied to loyalty_queen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@loyalty_queen - do you feel odd, as in out of place, because you are not eating a lot? Or do you feel odd because you physically feel sick? My DH likes to eat out, a lot. So we order and ask for an additional plate. Most restaurants are ok with that unless of course it is a buffet. I did go to a buffet (Golden Corral) a couple of weeks post-op and it was senseless for me to go. It was for Breakfast and I literally felt sick smelling all of the food, esp the sweet sugary type foods. Order a cup of soup or a small appetizer and enjoy the company/conversation and move "food" to the fuel for your body mindset. -
Are you truly 5'5" barefoot? sleep Apnea? I was told that if it came down to it they could list me at 5'7" and it would be just enough to keep my BMI a little higher. You may want to bundle up for that weigh in too...extra clothing, long pants, extra jewelry, roll of quarters in your pockets (bra) & drink about a quart of Water before you weigh-in just sayin'

@@Sophie74656 - I would take someone with you and video what is IN the house now (and what you take with you) it may come up missing when you want it :/ Or you may be accused of taking it. Divorce, even a pending one, can be really stressful. sorry you are going through this, I have 'been there and done that' and it was not pretty.

DID ANYONE WISH THEY HAD, OR DID TAKE VERY CREATIVE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS?
jane13 replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Womanvsmirror and @@cat.jackson89 I would recommend measuring yourself too. The best NSV is when I can put on smaller clothing. When I stall for a week or two the inches are usually dropping when the scale hasn't moved. -
@@OKCPirate - LOL!

@@jasoncunningham - have you ever lost that much weight in such a short time? 75 pound lost since January is OUTSTANDING! Be thankful!!!! Not everybody is losing as fast and if this is your first plateau/stall in 49 days? BE VERY THANKFUL!!!!! Most of us experienced them every month - - - like me. Stay on the plan and keep in touch with your NUT. YOU 'got this' Jane

DID ANYONE WISH THEY HAD, OR DID TAKE VERY CREATIVE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS?
jane13 replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Womanvsmirror, my NUT took one. She said a lot of people ask for a copy post. I have a couple of pics taken right after and just before. Like @@Christinamo7, I TRULY hate having my pic taken. If I try to smile I look like its faked and my face looks uncomfortable. I like the caught in the moment shots like , "Hey Jane" and when I look, their way they take the picture. I think it is the "posing" that generates the uncomfortable look. My daughter is extremely photogenic, go figure! -
@@purpleapple - post this again with the self pay forum as well you may get some help there too. I am in NE FL but I didn't self pay - good luck!

@@garciagiss - there are a lot of folks here who had to go to Mexico. If I didn't have the insurance coverage for WLS, I probably would have done that too. YOU do what you need to do to be healthy. I would see if there is a "local" place to go for a follow-up, because that is me. Good luck and keep posting!

4 Months Post-Op & Hair Loss has started :-(
jane13 replied to misi324's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@misi324 - mine started about 3rd month and ran for about 3 and then the hair loss slowed down. That was when the weight loss also slowed. I chopped my hair a lot shorter and put a color rinse on it regularly because the grey hair seems to LOOK thinner than my normal brown. It has started coming back but it still isn't thick as it use to be, but then again, neither am I! NO REGRETS! -
I am about 1 year out and I agree that there is a range of people who post on here. I try to welcome newbies and offer suggestions but I feel a lot of people come here looking for validation of why they ate pizza 3 days post, or a steak the night before surgery. There are the people who are in pain and don't know if they should go to the ER - "Houston, we have a problem...." really???? Then there are the ones who want attention - bless their hearts - I come here to keep my head "in the game". IMO I am past the "honeymoon" phase and I am fighting the battle to the last 20 or so pounds and OP like @@CowgirlJane keep me sane!

Saving Money?
jane13 replied to becomingmandikaye's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@becomingmandikaye - what you asked has been what has happened at my house. We are eating less potato chips, juice, bread, rice etc (carbs). It has been replaced by more veggies (yum) and Protein filled items. Hubby likes to eat out a lot and that is now 1 meal that he eats most of and I get an ala carte item to eat or some of his food. Ex: Longhorn - red rock shrimp and steak. He orders no rice and substitutes broccoli. I get a skewer of shrimp he gets one and we split the broccoli. -
Syntrax Nectar Protein

@@Sherry - sorry. I didn't think about the ISOPURE drinks, I haven't tried those, just the powdered unflavored (ick). I am going to stick with the unjury brand for unflavored powdered protein.

Leading up to my death?
jane13 replied to 1cutiejulie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@1cutiejulie if you feel you need to say your goodbyes, do it. I knew someone, who knew someone who died post bypass (a couple of days out of surgery). IMO, being scared pre-WLS for most, is pretty normal. I was 52 and scared too, but once I got in the OR and the guy started talking to me (as they placed the mask over my face) I felt very calm. Next thing I knew I was in recovery. My point is that a lot of anxiety and fear of the unknown causes a lot of sleeplessness and worry. Wish you the very best and do what you feel you need to do pre-op, like getting your affairs in order, saying goodbye, etc. NO REGRETS! -
@@Sherry, if it is the unflavored unjury (my favorite) you can mix with pretty much anything. Watch adding to hot liquids as it will clump Ex: coffee. Mix with a little warm Water then add to hotter liquid. chicken broth, tea, egg drop Soup, crystal light etc. I also do not like the taste of the Isopure, unflavored, that I have, so I am adding a 1/2 scoop of it to my LightNFit Greek yogurt to bump up the Protein (and hide the taste!).

Approved! Good bye band, hello sleeve!
jane13 replied to SusanB55's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@SusanB55 - team sleeving!!!! Awesome I was 52 when I had surgery May 2015, I have NO REGRETS. Was it easy? For me, yes. I was truly lucky, no issues (vomiting, pain, etc). My hubby (he is now 60) began eating healthier with me and lost 25-30lbs (he didn't have surgery) so has been a win-win for us. To have your SO "on-board" is very, very, helpful so you guys will kick butt! When is your date?
