  3. Unfortunately I seem to have developed diverticulitis and my 1 year anniversary is Friday and I am down 105lbs from my HW. I saw my general PCP for what I thought may have been a UTI that had possibly gotten worse. I have never had one until about 5 or so years ago so I didn't know what was going on. The first thing he asked me was what is your diet like now and I elaborated on the post WLS. He said you need more Fiber in your diet at your age :/ He said I can get a lot of fiber from salads and veggies. How can I add more fiber without filling up and still get in my Protein? I am now on two types of antibiotics and I have another appointment today to see where we go from here. Of course I am on a soft food diet at the moment (ah the memories...). Now I am considering no nuts, seeds and having to add fiber to my already small plate. Any suggestions?

    Water Retention

I notice that if I eat something with a higher sodium content or hi carb it will NOT generally show up that day on the scale its the next day and the one after that. It takes a day or so for my old body to purge the retained Water. So if I eat a small square (2x2) or two of meat lovers pizza on Friday I will more than likely see a gain on Sunday morning and Tuesday or so its gone. That also means maintaining, if not bumping up, the water. For that TOM, I can go up 5-7 lbs in a day ;(
  8. I TOTALLY agree with ISG and VSGAnn - getting money from a family member could add to the stress post-op. Is he going to feel its his right to critique your food? Weigh ins? I understand doing whatever it takes but definitely get some guidelines in there for what is/is not allowed. Good luck, I feel bad that you are going to have to do that to get surgery.

    Loneliness

@@pinklantern - going to ask why does it matter what you are drinking or eating? When I go out to eat and we sit at the bar waiting for a table, I drink Water. I don't ask what everyone is drinking that are at the bar. I don't like scotch, gin and most dark beers. If I am with a group or party, and I have been, and they are all drinking Guinness I NO WAY feel uncomfortable about not drinking. If they start chanting TOGA< TOGA< TOGA - don't drop your sheet, but run! Trying to make you laugh... If they are eating calamari (ick), sushi (more ick) or Lamb (triple ICK!) - there is no way in heck I going to feel guilty about NOT eating. My point is I think it is more your perception. If there is "pressure" to try something, politely decline. My husband likes to eat out a lot. We have family get togethers at our daughters. It is all based on food. SIL fried a turkey, I had a couple of pieces and some grilled veggies, no one asked. Of course there were multiple desserts: cheesecake, lemon pound cake and banana pudding. I didn't even WANT it. This is pretty common menu at these functions and I have been asked things like "have you tried Grandmas homemade pecan pie/pumpkin rolls/yeast rolls?" and I said no I was too full on the other food. You have to focus on food being fuel for your body. You didn't go OUT to eat, you went to socialize. That, in itself, is a great reply to anyone asking why you are not eating. IMO, you don't owe anyone any explanations about why you are not drinking or eating like everyone else.

BCBS won't cover lab work? (x-posted)

@@CourtneyLouise - Did you get the name of who you spoke to and when? I would call them and provide that info, especially if you went months without a bill and then got one again. I have BCBS fed and went to LabCorp and was fortunate enough to have that type of info and LabCorp wrote off the charges (over $1400). I specifically asked the woman did they take BCBS Fed and she said yes - I had her name and date/time I spoke to her. Apparently BCBS Fed goes back and forth every couple of year between taking LabCorp or not taking them. The OM said the check in person should have told me otherwise because they supposedly verified my coverage.

  19. Being I have had to wear a bra since I was 9 I totally get where some of the ladies with a 42G or in my case 42M bra are coming from. I am 53, and down 90+ lbs since surgery 5/6/15, I NOW wear a 38G and its full. When I take the bra off: UU I am glad to be able to wear a normal size shirt because the BOOBS are not dictating the size, as much I lose the weight in my waist first, for some reason, so I have been at least lucky with that. Of course the deflated 'muffin top' thing sucks too

Will a Week Off be Enough for a HR desk Job

@@Lindsey Skinner Abbott - I would plan for two weeks after reading your last post ^. I have a pretty physical job. My BP dropped about 2 weeks after I came back to work. I noticed that more. Staying hydrated is also key. After about 25lbs watch your BP. I was moved to pureed on Day 3 and like the OP mentioned may have been why I didn't feel as tired as most. I had surgery on a Wed and took the rest of that week and the following off. I would have been fine going back the following Monday. I was stir crazy. Unfortunately you cannot predict how you will feel post-op, hopefully you will have a pretty easy recovery like I did. welcome to the BP family!!!
  23. @@gina171 - wouldn't hurt would it? I mean, you test drive a car before you buy it. If you really liked the first program then it will reaffirm your decision. As long as your insurance accepts both - I would check them both out.
