I've been heavy most of my life - with the exception of a few successful diets and a spate of a LOT of exercise, I've varied between 20 and 150 lbs above my ideal weight, for age.

Athletics and a determined mama kept me down to overweight until I went away to college, then my diet police passed away... then pregnancy sidelined activities, then being heavier and a mom made it hard to get back to being active.. and then one day I realized that it is hard to wipe my own rear end.

That was a year ago, and I've used metabolic research center to lose the same 40 lbs twice in that year.

I first considered RNY bypass before my kids; then looked at the band when it first came out.. having researched and prayed for the past year, I have strengthened my intestinal fortitude (hah!) and I'm got a sleeve in December 2014.  I've started back on MRC in preparation for the pre op diet I'm anticipating from my surgeon.

I'm so excited!  My kids are excited!  My family is 'doing the WOE' with me, even though I'm the only one having surgery... so they will obviously be eating more; but smarter.

I think, in addition to getting healthy, the thing that excites me most about the sleeve is the fact that research indicates that children of mothers who have the sleeve are less likely to have weight problems because of the new normal diet in the house.  I know that I have given my children my bad health habits; I'm looking forward to helping them make better ones.

Update March 2015 - I've had some neurological changes that ended up being MS.  I'm so grateful that I had this surgery, as being nearly 100 lbs lighter than I was this time last year makes it easier to stay active when your body isn't working exactly the way it's supposed to.  I got off track with my eating while I was having symptoms dealing with the stress of testing and diagnosis, but now that I have an answer and am starting medicine - I look forward to getting back on track.
