  1. It counts as both. It's liquid and it has protein in it so the protein counts towards your protein goals and the liquid counts towards your fluid goals. Isopure makes and unflavored powder that can be mixed into soups. It's the only Isopure I use. When adding to hot things I mix the powder separately, then temper it that in by slowly adding a bit of the warm beverage to the the Isopure to slowly bring it up to temperature, then add it all together. I never add it to direct heat since that makes it clump up. Slowly tempered in it mixes well and you can barely tell its in there.

    How many ounces?

It's liquid so it's not really going to hurt anything. You might want to practice slowing down because it may cause problems as you move forward to more solid foods. Once you hit pureess and soft foods you'll need to heed the suggestion to stick to 2 - 4 ounces.

    Isopure

The unflavored Isopure powder doesn't which is the only one I use. It's 100% whey isolate. No carbs, no sugars. It's perfect for adding to soups and other savory items without a bunch of artificial dyes or sugars.

I forgot about those. I had Prosource nocarb. Very similar to this. I even order some online when I got home. I used to mix it in herbal tea as it was a little thick and sweet.

    Tummy aches

You may have over eaten. When they say 2 -4 oz, they mean it. Sometimes eating that last 1 or 2 bites can be very uncomfortable. We should be eating until we are sated, not full.

    Reflux or eating too fast?

I'm not sure what Phase 3 is for you. Purees? Soft foods? Either way it may be eating too fast. Early on we have to eat super slow. Try waiting a minute between bites and walking after eating.

    Discouraged/Sad

@@coleenrenee - I'm sorry you are feeling down. The reality of the situation is that you signed up for this change, not your family. Unless they are waving it in your face and taunting you, it's unrealistic to expect them to eat differently. Unless it is a mandatory family meal situation, perhaps it would be best to eat elsewhere for a while. At least until you are able to eat regular food again. However the fact of the matter is we will always have to make good food choices. That's why it's a lifestyle change. Try to begin wrapping your brain around that fact now.

    Reflux or eating too fast?

What food stage are you at? It may be a matter of eating too fast. Others have also found that walking after eating aides in digestion. If you think it is acid related you can speak to your doctor about adjusting the dosage. That may be more advisable than adding things on your own.

Swollen Feet 5 days Post Op

Probably both. You may be retaining fluid from the IV. Being more active may get that moving and regardless of the fluid you are retaining you still need to drink fluids and water to prevent dehydration. Your doctor's should have an on call number. If you are seriously concerned you can go to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

    African American vsgers!

I do aquafit classes at my gym. However like everything I do, I go hard. I was going to the gym 5 - 6 days a week. I had to take this week off because my knees were really starting to hurt. At my gym the aquafit classes vary depending on whose teaching. Some classes are weight lifting and stretching, others are like zumba in the Water and others are high energy aerobic workouts with lots of jumping and running laps in the pool. I wear supportive TEVA water shoes, but my knees were starting to feel it. I just need to change up my routine. I'm only going to do one high energy class a week and then try and add some other types of exercise into my routine. For the incisions I used scarfade gel since I tend to keloid. On my stomach and arms I just used bio oil, however I have very dry skin so I use Johnson's baby oil gel with aloe vera on my body daily after showering. I also drink plenty of water so I think it's really a combination of things.

    Any advice is great!

So your getting 42 gms of Protein and 26 ounces of fluids on day 4? Still not bad. Like I said, you work up to it. Try adding another half a or even quarter bottle of gatorade with the protein in it. Once you can do that, got for half. Keep adding until you hit your goals. I think it took me a week or 2 to hit my goals. I know I was making it by my 2 week f/u but I had to work up to it. Just make sure you are getting your Vitamin and supplements in. They are your lifesaver until you can get nutrients from food.
  13. @@ssourgirl - I know you guys are frustrated but please listen and practice the deep breathing the psychologist is talking about. I was a Child Life Specialist for many years and assisted is procedures often. If you can control your anxiety level it actually makes things a lot better. I helped children as young as 5 get through suturing and even lumbar punctures (spinal tap) by staying calm and deep breathing. On a personal level, I have to get frequent MRI's due to a tumor I have. Being encased for 1 -2 hours while the machine bangs and clicks AND you are unable to move can be extremely challenging. Often people request a sedative to get through it. I used deep breathing to relax and get through it. It's sounds like such a simple thing, but it really does work.
  14. SO MANY CLOTHES! Trying to purge and I never realized how much clothing I had ! Suits for work I never wore, still with tags on them. Dresses I paid hundreds for. So much stuff never worn, still with tags. I have quite and active social life so I have everything from casual to formal wear. Feeling really overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it all.

Good point. I do plan to give some things to those in my congregation. and I have given 8 bags and counting to Goodwill. I need to take some of these things to Dress for Success and let go. Who knew I'd have a harder time letting go of clothing than food?

Think how much you are going to enjoy the new clothes that you are going to buy. AND that you will be able to continue to enjoy them since your size will become more stable!

I would if I needed new clothes. Honestly other than workout clothes & bras I don't need to buy a single thing for quite some time.

    I Want a Drink!

This really sounds like a conversation to have with your nutritionist. I like a drink as much as the next gal, but I wasn't in any rush to have one. I did attend a wine tasting last weekend and had no problems whatsoever. Talk to your medical team and come up with a realistic goal.

    Any advice is great!

You work up to your goals. Do the best each day and each day strive to do better. Also if you are drinking shakes/soups, etc... my doctor counts those fluids towards my total Fluid amount. Speak with your nutritionist. If you are drinking 42ounces of Protein drinks plus 26 ounces of Water or another fluid, that's 68 ounces of fluids which is actually pretty good. Work on increasing your water just a bit and you're there. As for the gas bubble, that may just be a cue to drink a little slower. We really have to start off drinking at a snails pace. Overall you are 4 days out. From where I sit, it sounds like you are doing well.

    Eating and alcohol

If I am reading your bio correctly you just had surgery in March? You have to choose. I would eat something at least 30 minutes before going out if you want to have a drink. I would then get something really simple, like a glass of white wine and sip very slowly and very carefully. If you would prefer to eat, then choose a small Protein rich appetizer and have them bring it out with everyone else's meal. Simply order Water to drink and ignore it, unless you are sitting and chatting for more then 30 minutes AFTER eating. I go out frequently. I almost always have a doggy bag. No biggie, it just means I have something to eat the next day. Just remember you are there to socialize with friends. The company is the important part, food is just secondary.

    African American vsgers!

I'm not pear shaped, but I am definitely bottom heavy. Even though I have lost 80lbs I can still wear some of my old clothes because of my thighs & hips. I've been doing a lot of cardio and some weight lifting/strength training. I'm going to try and switch that around. My biggest challenge is arthritis in both my knees. On a positive note, the stretch marks on my tummy and arms appear to be fading as I lose weight.
  19. @@Jerr_Bear - This works for non meat eaters as well. I just get BeyondMeat crumbles. To @@JennG25 - You can really eat just about anything. Just keep it simple and make sure it's moist. eggs cooked any way you like them. Also greek yogurt really is a power house. I add a scoop of Protein powder and let it chill to a pudding consistency.
  20. That is horrible! I have heard of meds that come in only one form. Crazy but true. So sorry you guys are going through all this.

    Antacids?

Tums does not do much for most of us. I was put on omeprazole 20mgs 1x say from day 1. Around 6 weeks I noticed I would get slight heartburn in midafternoon/early evenings. After speaking with my doctor at my 3 mth f/u my dosage was increased to 40mgs. By 5mths I no longer needed omeprazole at all. In fact I don't even need to use Tums. My body has regulated itself and I've retrained myself to not wolf my food down. I no longer have to eat super slow, but I don't inhale my food and get sick either. I'm 7½ mths post-op.
  22. It makes no sense to give her an oral antibiotic. If she's still vomiting shes likely not getting enough of the antibiotic to do any good. She needs IV antibiotics.

can i be eating too few calories?

The intent is to put you on low calories/high protein. That's why most of us take supplements & vitamins. I'm 7 months out and still average about 850 calories a days. However your water is also important. It may take a while to work up to 64 ounces of fluids, but you really should try.

    Burning Pain in fat

Check with your doctor. I'd worry about ulcers, but moving like that sounds unusual, and gas should be gone by 6 weeks.

    Getting Enough Water

I actually like water so I'm good. On the rare occasion that I want flavor I have an infusion pitcher that I'll fill either with citrus fruits or cucumber and crushed mint leaves.
