How bad is the gas pains?
BLERDgirl replied to alindsey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't have either. No gas pain, no nausea. In fact I was only a little sore. It felt like I had done 100 sit ups the day before, but that was it. -
Water toxicity is possible but only in extreme circumstance. You likely would have to literally drink you body weight in water .
-
Genepro (not a fan) is sold on Amazon, Isopure Naked Whey is sold online and at stores like GNC and VItamin Shoppe, Unjury is sold online. GNC, Target and Vitamin Shoppe will allow you to return with a receipt .

There are literally zillions of Protein packs. You can order a sample pack from some company online. I didn't use them so hopefully another poster can provide that info. Besides Vitamin stores like GNC, you can also try drugstores like Walgreens, CVS and RiteAide. They often sell individual packs. Whole Foods also sell Protein shakes and has sample packs. Keep trying until your find something that works.

OMG when does the gas pain end?!
BLERDgirl replied to Marye382's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to sip super, super slow. I realize it''s hard when you are thirsty and use to gulping down water. You will eventually be able to gulp again, but for now your need to sip. If you find it difficult to sip, try suck on ice chips instead. -
5 days post op can't do all liquid diet. Anyone else do okay on soft foods?
BLERDgirl replied to nugirl402's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The human body is incredibly resilient and adaptive. Like others have said. there are many other brands of Protein Shakes to try. I too found Premier Protein to be gross. Part of this process is to change eating habits. I would recommend speaking with your nutritionist for other alternatives to use during the full liquid stage. No, it's not fun, but it's just a temporary phase to help with the healing of your tummy. There will always be people who went AMA and were "just fine". My other concern is that the bacon and egg you had only contains approximately half the Protein you would get in a protein shake. 1 strip of bacon is about 6 gms and 1 large egg is 6 as well. You need protein to heal. -

@@Highdee215 - I have just a little past bra strap length locs. I noticed a little thinning around the end of month 5. Mostly it's just my temple area. This was already a weak spot for me because I am post menopausal. I already take biotin and use JBC regularly. I am 7½ months and it seems to have stabilized. I don't see lots of new growth, but it doesn't feel like it's getting any worse. I can style around the thinning areas and I've just taken care to be extra gentle with my hair. Apparently there is not much you can do except wait it out. I meet my protein and fluids goals daily. I get between 70 - 85 gms of protein each day and take my vitamins and supplements daily. -
@@Jerr_Bear - Funny thing. I live in Philly and like NYC, there is a mix of cultures. Last year I was getting my kitchen redone and wondered why my cat kept bothering the work men. Turns out he was buying chicharrones for lunch and would share with the cat.

that's all very nice if you but not every family is going to do that. It certainly doesn't warrant calling people you don't know A -holes. There are other ways to lend support.
-
it's not unusual. The first thing I noticed when I got home was how skinny my feet & ankles were. I didn't weigh at home but at my 2 wk follow up I was down 26lbs. Just know those early big numbers eventually settle down. Most people do between 6 & 15 lbs a month

No it would cost too much. I've checked. I just need to let go

Drinking and eating at same time- Do you wait 30 minutes?
BLERDgirl replied to ab123.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I followed the 30/30 rule religiously. I never experienced dry food or dry mouth because I made my food very moist and chewed well. At 7½ mths I don't worry as much about the 30 before, but I am much more comfortable if I wait 30 minute after. Otherwise my belly gets uncomfortably tight like if I were to take that extra 1 or 2 bites I could never finish. 30 minutes after allows time for my food to digest a bit and then I can enjoy my Water. Once you are at the soft food stage Soup with bits in it counts as a meal, not a Fluid. It's not considered eating & drinking. -
I wasn't a T shirt and slacks kind of gal. The dress stuff is silk or fancy beaded stuff. The jeans have never been worn. Then I have 3 or 4 suits that machine washing would ruin. So far the consignment shops around here all want high end designer stuff. There's one shop a bit further out that might take some things but they are very particular. They won't accept things in trash bags, everything must be pressed and on hangers/garment bags. I guess I just found my Achilles heel. *sigh* I'll be fine, but this is almost physically painful. I never imagined clothing and not food would be the thing that tripped me up. I'm also surprised that even consignment and thrift shops make plus sizes sell/buy online.
-
They sound like a typical family. Are they supposed to drink broth and purees just because that's all she can eat? We have to realize that the people around us who didn't sign up for WLS are going to eat as they normally eat. That's not lack of support, that's life.

I haven't seen Protein tablets. What source is the protein from. I used unflavored Protein powder that I can mix in Soup.

@@Amanda0305 Greek yogurt is denser than soup broth. It should take you longer.

What is your TRUE weight loss goal?
BLERDgirl replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@KingMoose Actually from all the reports I've been reading that is a better measure of health than BMI numbers anyway. -
I honestly just like some of my clothes and buying new things is not a necessity for quite some time. I do thing I may go more the consignment route. I just shipped 2 bathing suits and the shipping was $8. That hardly makes it worth selling online.I'm going to check a few consignment shops in the are and see what prices and fees are.

I like breakfast foods. A vegetable omelet with feta cheese is one of my favorite things to eat. I just don't particularly care to eat early in the morning. I enjoy a good brunch.

What is your TRUE weight loss goal?
BLERDgirl replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Debbieduck4 - I'm the same height as you and that's my sorta goal. I have no idea if I will ever get there and my doctor has never mentioned a goal weight to this day, but it would be nice if I could get there. -
I am facing this dilemma now. Some things I have to sell/giveaway simply because they are HUGE on me. I am also getting ready for some minor home renovations and took this as an opportunity to purge. I've got 4 piles; Goodwill, friends in my congregation, trash and sell. The more I go through things, the more challenging it is for me. I think I actually will not have to buy anything other than workout wear for at least the 1 year. I literally have clothes from a size 34 to 16! I am cringing at the amount of clothes that I have that still have the tags on them and have never been worn and the amount of designer clothing I have. I have everything from suits for work, fancy dress items and causal wear to club wear from my partying days. Part of me wants to sell them just to recoop some money and part of me just wants everything gone. Honestly this has been the most overwhelming part of my weight loss journey. I've given 9 bags to Goodwill so far. I saved the dress in my before picture. I'll take another picture in it when I hit 100lbs down.
-
I routinely eat breakfast for lunch and vice versa. Really I eat whatever I fell like. Most mornings it's just coffee or tea with protein powder or a protein smoothie because I'm heading to the gym and like that protein boost, but honestly my favorite thing is miso broth with diced tofu and scallions.

What else besides protein shakes on 6 days post op?
BLERDgirl replied to nugirl402's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your nutritionist should have given you a list of acceptable food. Eggs were not on my list until I was on purees. My first 2 weeks were full liquids. Protein shakes, cream soups, broth, water, diluted juice, greek yogurt were all acceptable. If you are unsure, you should call your nutritionist and review acceptable foods. Yes the protein shakes will get tedious, but it's only temporary. following your medical team's advice is important in the healing of your new tummy. -
Post Op Visits- How Frequent?
BLERDgirl replied to ab123.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was similar except I can't recall if I saw the doc at 1.5 or 1 month. I know I had a weight check at each appointment and blood work done at both 3 mths and 6 mths. I did not get a body mass or fat & muscle breakdown. -
Bad news and decision
BLERDgirl replied to spiritfilled's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would move forward with the consultation. If they are doing a thorough H & P (history and physical) you should have ample time to discuss your eye situation. I would bring as much information from your eye docs as you have and all contact information to share with the WLS. The discussion should indeed be "What's more important." I too am leaning towards the eye issue taking priority, but I would specifically ask how WLS, recuperation and a new eating lifestyle will impact taking care of the eye situation.
