    Protein shakes and breakouts

As someone with severe food allergies, I'd say it sounds like you are having a mild reaction.
  2. I wore baggy sweats for the first two weeks and after that I wore regular clothes. What ever you get just don't get a lot since they will quickly become too big. If you have a good thrift or second hand store nearby that may be a good option.

    Rant from a single woman!

I think part of it is attitude. I don't have any problems dating or making friends. I understand in certain cultures men may be more accepting of "curvy gals". I know personally I would never not date a guy because he was fat. I've never been into cutes-y guys. I am about personalities. I see and hear from many women who are chubby that they feel embarrassed. I don't. I like me and while I like myself enough to also want to be the be healthy, I am not ashamed of my fat thighs or big belly. I've always been active and outgoing and I've always been into fashion and makeup. I'm not looking for the mate for life so the dating scene is fine by me. I also know many single women who are not only thin, but down right skinny. Trust me weight is not the hindrance to dating.
  4. Try mixing plain FAGE with the Starbuck Via instant pouches. They are strong so I use anywhere from a third to a quarter packet to every 4 ounces of yogurt.
  5. I'm good about portioning mine out. Most days I eat 4ounces at a time. I usually add anywhere from ½ to ¼ cup to my protein shakes in the morning.
  6. I only buy FAGE 0% Greek yogurt. I eat it pretty much daily. In fact, I buy it by the case from Whole Foods. (6 pts @ $6.99ea - 10% case discount). I add it to my Protein shakes in the morning, use it instead of sour cream and even as a mayo replacement. I like that the only ingredients are milk and yogurt cultures. Nutrition breakdown is Calories 130, Fat 0, Carbs 9gm, Protein 23gm, Sugar 9gm per cup. As for add ins, I use pretty much anything on hand; fresh fruit, almond butter, a drizzle of raw honey, and on the rare occasion I buy flavored Protein powder, I'll add a scoop of that and mix with the yogurt and then sit in the fridge for a bit to chill to the consistency of pudding.

    FMLA

It varies from state to state how is will be administered. Here in Philadelphia some employers hold a job unless it is a in demand position. You may want to schedule an appointment with your employer's HR department and get in writing what your company's policy is.
  8. Adding to the chorus: STAY OFF THE SCALE. During the first 6 mths most of us see the doctor often enough that we will be able to monitor our weight. Focus on the program. Make sure you are getting in 60+gms of Protein and 64+ounce of Water every single day. If you are hitting those benchmarks aim for higher. Not only will it help with the weight loss, it will also help with the energy level. If you need to measure something take your measurements (boobs, neck, waist & hips). Lastly learn to savor NSV (non-scale victories). Things like jeans getting loose, seatbealts not as tight, feet no longer swollen, etc.... Take joy in how your body is changing and you won't get discouraged.

    Plain protein powder

    I've even used a fork

    Plain protein powder

Try mixing it with a tablespoon or 2 of Water and a whisk, then add that to whatever you are adding it to. I do it all the time and it comes out completely smooth no blender needed. FYI - I only need to do this if I am mixing it into a hot beverage. If I'm just mixing it with milk or even yogurt, I just dump every thing into my shaker bottle. It dissolves completely with no gritty texture.

    Does everyone experience hairloss?

It's luck of the draw and every other factor you can name; age, hair textures, etc... I was already taking Biotin pre surgery because I am menopausal. I made it a point to hit a minimum of 75gms of Protein a day. I have bra strap length dreadlocs and I color my hair regularly. Around month 5/6 I noticed some thinning around my temples. By month 9 that thinning appeared to stop. I also started massaging my temples with emu oil and spaced my retwist out to every 6 weeks.

    Vomitting after a meal

Try stopping one or two bite sooner. One thing I found is that one or two extra bites makes all the difference in the world. So at the very hint of fullness I stop eating. If I push those last 2 bites I get a horribly uncomfortable belly ache. It can even feel like I am going to bring the food up. Once I learned to leave those last few bites, I was fine.

    Scared of carbs?

I don't do no carb or even low carb. I look at the quality and source of the carbs. Simple carbs, "white" carbs (white Pasta, white rice, refined sugars, etc...) I stay away from. However carbs from vegetables, or Beans I don't worry about. You also need carbs for energy. My homemade Protein shakes have carbs from the greek yogurt, fruit and veg I add to them. They fuel my workouts. If I am having a day where I leave the house at 8am and don't get back until I may allow more carbs than on days when I'm home all day.

Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused

As mentioned different programs have different protocols. Whether or not to incorporate snacks is something to discuss with your nutritionist. In the beginning I could eat very much. It was easier to break up my meals into 5 small ones so I could hit my Protein goals. As I progressed I could handle 3 meals and an afternoon snack if I needed it. Some days I don't and even now some days I may need 2 snacks. Especially if it's a busy, active day. Some days it's something light like sliced cucumbers. Some days it's an ounce of nuts. I stick to pistachio, cashew or almond. I also always have a water bottle with me so that makes getting the water in easy. I don't need to not drink 30 minutes before eating, but I do still give myself a 30 minute window after eating. My day typically looks like this: Wake up: Drink 4 - 8 ounce of water Breakfast: 8/9am - typically a high Protein shake made with Protein powder and greek yogurt Gym: 9 - 10:30 - water aerobics Running around/errands: Drink 20 ounces of water Lunch: 12/2pm Afternoon: drink at least 30 ounces of water Snack: 3/4 high protein snack if needed Dinner: 7pm Rest of the night drink water. Sometimes I go to the evening water aerobics class from 6 -7. On those days I will always have a high protein snack on the way home. Usually nuts, sometimes a Protein Bar.
  17. It happens. Especially early on. Your body is still adjusting to all the changes of surgery and a new way of eating. The closer you get to 64 ounces of fluids and 60+gms of Protein, the easier the weight loss. Keep working towards that. It might be easier to only weigh bi-weekly for a while. I personally only weigh myself once a month. It helps me focus on my proper eating and exercise instead of numbers on the scale. If you need benchmarks, take your measurements. I did neck, boobs, waist and hips. Even when the scale doesn't move, the measurements will show you how your body is shifting and changing.

    Sleevers over 300lbs?

So plan an evening snack. This is why food diaries are helpful at least initially. I sometimes get snack-y in the evenings. Peeled, slice cucumbers with a splash of lime & srirachia will sometimes curb that. 1 ounce of pistachios is another option I use. I can't trust myself with bulk bags of nuts so I buy the individual $.99 bags instead. My point is I plan it out & allow room for that evening snack. I don't want one every night but this way if I do get a craving I haven't messed up my eating.
  19. Throw the scale out the window. You are doing fine. A 6 - 10 lb a month weight loss is fairly typical for sleeves. There may be months that are higher & months that are lower, but that's about average.

    Warning: Fresh/frozen cherries

It may be your body is more used to canned fruits. I've had no issues with fresh berries and I've been eating them since probably 2 -3 mths out. I've also had no issues with any fruit or veg. fresh, frozen or raw.

    Not losing weight

I agree with @@Kindle - stay off the scale! It's 3 weeks in. Relax a bit. I didn't notice a 3 week stall either. In the beginning I only weighed myself when I went to the doctor's. I had a 2 week f/u and didn't seeing him again until my 6 week f/u. I showed a loss both times. Instead I focused on eating/drinking enough protein, getting in enough water and walking/exercise. If you follow the program, the loss will happen. Just make sure to hit those protein and fluid levels.

    How much protein

If you are confused your first call should be to your doctor or nutritionist. The base goal I was given by my doctor was minimum of 60 gms of Protein and 64 ounces of fluids. For many that works out to 3 shakes a day plus sipping Water in between. For most people this is a goal you have to work up to. I think it took me a week or 2. At 10mths post-op I aim for a minimum of 75gms and generally get between 75 - 100gms. My understanding is the body cannot digest more than 30gms of protein per hour. This shouldn't be a problem if you are eating/drinking slowly.
  25. Get some of those yogurt things in squeeze tubes. Just check the labels, they are aimed at kids so they may have a lot of sugar. However they freeze great so they can help keep your other food cold and you can eat them when they thaw. Also get nut butter in the tube packs. I know Target sells single servings of Justin's almond butter like this. get some oatmeal packets as well. You may want to open them and grind them finer and then seal them in zip locks, but this way you can get hot Water and a paper cup and mixed them.
