    Question about protein drinks

Tastebuds vary. Most stores allow for returns so save your receipts.
  2. I was 412 day of surgery. No compensation, but allergic to latex, red dyes and several meds. Arthritis in my left knee from s meniscus repair. 51 and post menopausal from a radical hysterectomy due to uterine cancer. Pre diabetic. I had the absolutely easiest surgery. I walked in recovery, no gas, no vomiting, no cramps. I could get in and out of bed without help and didn't need pain meds once I work up. I wish I had done this year's earlier.

    homemade popcicles

I cook everything from scratch. My fav is to use really good fruit in season because then you don't need to add sugar. I don't really use recipes. You could try adding a little yogurt to the mix to help soften them.
  4. What is "normal"? I can go out to eat. I just went out this evening. However I don't eat as much. I simply no longer have the capacity & I'm okay with that. We had Chinese. I got not appetizer, but nibbled on the pickled cabbage that comes table side. I skipped the tea. I ordered veg egg foo young. I got brown rice instead of white. Ate 3/4 of a patty, 1 tbsp of rice. The rest will be leftovers. With A 12 course meal I might be able to take 1 or 2 bites of each course. Even then I doubt I could get past more than 6 courses. I'm okay with that. I never want to eat a huge meal again. Instead I've become the best dinner companion ever. I am chatty, witty & just plain good company. I eat out frequently and it's never been an issue because I don't make it one. I don't apologize for not eating or draw attention to the fact that I am not. I enjoy my company and the socializing.

    Question about protein drinks

Agreed. I was a big biochem vegan fan. I switched to unflavored & make my own. I didn't like the sickly sweet taste of premiere.

Approved for Band not Sleeve;(Need some advice.

I didn't even consider the lapband and I wouldn't consider it. While there are quite a few who have been very successful with it, there are far too many complications for me. I also don't feel it's the restriction that I need. If you have doubt with the lapband, VSG or any WLS, slow things down and reconsider. You need to be fully committed to whatever type of surgery your choose.
  7. My bloodwork has been really good. I'm down to very few. I take a centrium multi in the AM. 3 hours later I take 12,000 calcium. In the evening I take 5,000 bioton and my Zyrtec. That's it. Oops, I forgot I also take Vitamin D with my multi.

Men hitting on you when you are fat

I find that personality goes as long if not farther than physical appearances. Sure some men are only interested in the physical and they will quickly show their cards, however some are attracted to an intelligent woman, who likes herself and carries herself well. Dating has never been an issue for me even at my heaviest. Work on liking yourself and telling yourself you are worthy. Don't settle for anything less!

    Bingeing after the sleeve

You may need to touch base with your therapist, for a few tune up sessions. From what I understand, BED is not something you get magically cured of. Often you simply develop better coping mechanisms. WLS may have thrown that out of whack as you learn new eating behaviors. Reach out for professional help.
  10. I am so sorry to hear about your less than personal experience. Surgeon's don't stick around long, but they should f/u. I saw my surgeon at the initial consult, on my last pre-op prior to surgery, in the OR and at my 2 week f/u. However the program is run as a team approach so I have seen the same nutritionist, nurse, NP at every appointment. Sadly this is a warning to all to truly investigate programs. I looked at 2 different programs before settling on the one I choose. To the OP, I would definitely seek out someone else for follow care. You may even be able to use your PCP if they are willing. I am happy to hear that you are doing well. I hope that continues to be the case.

    Calories per day?

I currently eat between 850 - 1025 calories a day and get in 100gms of Protein. At 0 - 3 months I was eating between 200 - 400. 6 - 9 mths I was eating between 750 - 850 I would google bariatric diets. There are sites where you can down load a bariatric manual that will have guidelines to follow. Your intake will vary depending on age and activity level. Working within a range works for me. I workout 5 -6 days a week. If I am feeling truly hungry, not head hunger or cravings, then I eat a bit more. My biggest concerns are hitting my protein goals and getting in my Water.
  12. Things that attracted me to my program; 1. They see me on a regular basis throughout the first year. 2. They are available by telephone or email. Their email policy is that someone will get back to you within 2 business days. 3. They encourage both pre and post ops to attend support groups and have them scheduled at various times and locations. 4. They state they are available for follow up care for 5 years post op. 5. They provided a manual that explained the entire process pre - post op. During those first few months any time I was unsure, I consulted my manual. It's very detailed with sample menus, eating plans, etc....
  13. Carbs do indeed = sugar, but you can use that to your advantage. I try to bookend my carbs around my workouts so that instead of that sugar just sitting there turning to fat, it is used to fuel my workouts. I workout 5 - 6 days a week.
  14. It's a combination of things. Eating a more well rounded diet, exercising regularly (yes a good workout energize me!), and losing weight all make me feel more energetic. However, part of your issue is a slightly malfunction thyroid. You can still get to the point where you have more energy, it just may take a little longer. My sister has thyroid issues and she found that increasing her multi Vitamin to 2 x's a day, taking Iron every 2 -3 days, along with her synthroid helps her energy levels. I also have been getting her to go for a walk with me on Sunday afternoon's. Perhaps talk to your doctor about increasing your multi vitamin and taking an iron supplement. Just keep in mind when adding iron you need to increase your Water intake.

    How much vitamins?

Try to get your labs done regularly . Mine have been good so far and I have been able to reduce the amount of supplements I need to take greatly. Currently I only take a multi and a calcium supplement. I also take Biotin for my hair but my doctor does not require it. If you Baristric program doesn't do them, have you pcp do them at least every 6 mths. Mine were done at 6 weeks, 3 mths, 6 mths and I'll get another panel at my annual. You want them gone regularly so that you can catch any deficiencies before they become problematic.

    Insurance denial

No they do not refund. Regardless as to whether you are approved or not, the psychologist still performed a billable service.

    Hair loss!

Just my edges in front. It's frustrating because I have rally long dreadlocks and I'd like to not have to cut them. So far pin up styles & headbands have helped. Biotin and hair vitamins haven't really made a difference.

    Shot down

It's fine to deviate within reason. Because of food allergies and being a vegetarian my eating plan was very different than most. However I reviewed and discussed everything with my nutritionist. I made most things from scratch. What you were doing is still on program. However there are folks who will say things like how they ate noodles ( a slider food) during their all liquid stage. That's just bad advice. There's a difference in being creative and just plain going off course.

What did you take to hospital?

My hospital provided most of what I needed. I packed really light. I bought a pair of big panties, my toothbrush, my iPhone, iPad and charger. I Waite a lose t shirt dress to the hospital & the same thing home. I only live 30 mins. from the hospital and wasn't in any pain do I didn't need a pillow. At the hospital I just wore 2 gowns for walking.

    Drinking water..

Don't feed the troll. Just stop following/ posting in this thread. No one can argue with a brick wall.
  21. The belly binder sounds like a good idea. I would also touch base with the doctor just to make sure things are okay.
  22. I was 50 when I had surgery and turned 51 shortly thereafter. I was an active fat. I went to the gym regularly and was always very outgoing. I had no co morbidities, but I was pre -diabetic. However I was already in menopause due to a hysterectomy from uterine cancer 10 years ago. I wish I had made this decision when I only had 65 lbs to lose. As it is now I have a long way to go. My surgery was easy, my recovery was uneventful. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!
  23. Mexican place as long as they don't use lard, I go for refried Beans and the topping. I skip the tortillas. Italian, I go for stuffed shells, and only eat the ricotta filling. I also get eggplant or any other veg they offer. I haven't done sushi post surgery, but I have done Chinese and Japanese. I typically choose a tofu and veg dish and/or Soup of some sort.

    Question about protein drinks

Double check with your nutritionist. Mine wanted no more than 7 grms of sugar per serving, but I had VSG surgery. Also if you don't have any allergies, using a protein powder flavored with stevia, sucralose or monkfruit may be another option.
  25. Easiest surgery I ever had and I've had a radical hysterectomy and a meniscus repair. Not only did I not have any complications, but my chronic urticaria & angioedema actually improved. I haven't been to the ER for IV benedryl once since surgery and I was ending up in the ER every 2 - 3 mths for my allergies. Stop listening to someone who doesn't know. '
