360+ pounds?!? help!
BLERDgirl replied to allyrenee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started at 414. I had no pre-op diet and was 412 DOS. I am now in the 200's. I did my homework, and took into consideration my own motivation and physical limitations. I knew i didn't want or need the malabsorption of bypass, nor did I want that unused stomach just sitting inside me. I knew I need a tool to give me a jump start so to speak. I was already exercising regularly prior to surgery. Which I am certain my surgical process easy. It was literally pain free without vomiting/nausea/etc... When I looked at surgeries I looked at more than 1 program, attended 2 informational seminars ( one for each program). I asked about dietary requirements for each program, and follow up care & support. I also choose from Centers of Excellence. When I spoke with the surgeons I discussed my needs and asked their recommendations even though I knew I wasn't interested in bypass. I wanted to here the explanations and reasoning from the surgeons themselves. Ultimately the surgeon I choose was one who's reasonings were more in line with what I was seeking and also had good follow up care and support. For me the sleeve was the right decision even though I knew it meant it would take longer to reach goal weight. I am 14 mths out and 115lbs down. It's not lightening fast, but it has been steady and consistent. -
My plan was 2 week All liquids, 2 week purees, then 2 weeks soft foods.

@@Bayougrl - Is this an over the counter or prescription? What dosage are you taking? What time of the day? I would suggest taking 40 mgs in the evenings at least 2 - 3 hours before bed. Avoid any acidic foods; caffeine, citrus, tomato based. Try to have your last meal/protein shake at least 4 hours before bedtime. It can take 5 -7 days of taking it consistently before you feel the effects of a PPI. If you don't feel any relief by day 10, I would call the doctor and get a prescription strength PPI instead.

when do you feel normal eating again (small portions still)?
BLERDgirl replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. The benefit of fruit is Fiber. Which is a good thing. Whole fruit, not processed fruit or canned fruit. The benefit of that fiber is the ability to go to the bathroom regularly. Another benefit of fruit and the carbs you get is it gives you energy. Balance is what is needed. Part of the problem some face with carbs is eating more carbs than you can burn off with physical activity. So while eating a lot of fruit may not be advisable, eating a moderate amount is actually good for you. I eat a wide variety of fruit and vegetables daily. I just eat a moderate amount in accord with my sleeve size. For me that mean maybe a ½ an orange in my pre-workout shake, or ½ and apple and some cheese cubes as a snack. By balancing it out I don't have cravings that you get from highly processed, overly refined carbs and I get the additional benefits of energy & natural fiber. I have had fruit and veg since week 1 and been losing steadily. -
What are the first 4 days after surgery like? Any Dos and don’ts…..
BLERDgirl replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Play around with different temperatures. Some do better with ice cold, some lukewarm and other need hot beverages. As for hat to eat for your 2 week, you should ask your nutritionist. Eating phases vary greatly from program to program. -
I go by my aquafit swimsuits. When I had surgery my suit was a Plus size 30. I just bought a straight size 16. It's a little tight but another 5 lbs and it will fit perfectly. I cannot tell you how happy I get when my suit becomes too big.

Carbohydrate intake?
BLERDgirl replied to retzlpa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Like everything regarding diets and weight loss, ask here and get a million different answers. I wasn't given a carb limit or number. I was given a calorie range. Along with my protein and fluid goals that is the only limitation my nutritionist gave me. I do not eat low carb and my NUT doesn't push it. However I do pay close attention to the source of my carbs. Plant based carbs I don't worry about. I avoid "white carbs", like those found in breads, pastas, white rice and refined sugar. I try to eat as cleanly as possible. No "diet" food . On the occasions I use butter, I use real butter. However those occasions are few and far between. I buy plain yogurt and add my own fruit. I eat whole plants and grains. I am never constipated and have been losing steadily. -
I have found that NUTs will often shorthand the reasons for not wanting people to use certain things or straight out not allow them because they can be a slider or trigger for misuse. The other posters have given you good examples of that. I would go up to her after class or if you have a 1: 1 session with her and ask her to explain why. When meeting with my NUT I found that once she realized that I read labels and did my homework, her responses to me were much different. BTW: I use raw cacao powder that I buy from the produce market. Taste the same but not as refined.

Points for using the word Grok! Haven't heard that in years. -
Will drinking water stretch my sleeve?
BLERDgirl replied to kabertoson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
NO, drink your 64 ounces. A year out you should be able to eat and drink fairly normally. -
Lump at incision site
BLERDgirl replied to stepbill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's probably just scar tissue. If it becomes warm to the touch or oozes, call the doctor ASAP. Otherwise just have him check it at your next follow up appointment. -
Initially fluids are the most important. Get that water in! Work at it every day. Follow your NUT's guidelines. Get things in writing and consult them if you forget.

Did you say "what did I do" !
BLERDgirl replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not for one single minute. I had a really pleasant and pain free surgical experience. I knew the moment I woke up this was the right thing to do. This was confirmed when I got home 2 days later and saw my feet were not swollen for the first time in years and reconfirmed when I went for my 2 week follow up and had lost 26lbs. -
Congrats!

Yes I ate a ¼ at a time for quite a while. Even now I only eat ½ - 1 cup of anything a time.

Stopped losing - completely frustrated
BLERDgirl replied to newbeginnings1965's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you checked with your NUT? Do you exercise? You may need to up your calories. You may also need to lower your expectations a bit. If you can up your calories and still lose, even slowly, what does it matter as long as the weight is going down? -
Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit, eggs ( I like mine scrambled w/ a tiny bit of cheese and salsa), Black beans with a sunny side egg & avocado, I also like steel cut oats w brown sugar & cinnamon. If I go out I get a vegetable omelet. On days when I'm not super hungry I'll have a cup of miso soup with small diced tofu.

How to get over being head hungry
BLERDgirl replied to QueenieNz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes it's head hunger. More of a mental thing than anything else. Like most things mental, once you relearn new eating habits you will learn how to manage it better. -
I got a free sample. I'm okay with swallowing so I probably won't buy them but they didn't taste bad.

Call the doctor, get a script for a PPI. Don't eat too late and watch highly acidic foods like lemons, coffee, and tomato based products. A PPI takes 5 -7 days to really kick in and work well, so you may want to sleep slightly elevated until then.

3 weeks post op extreme fatigue
BLERDgirl replied to A New KK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First make sure you get in ALL your protein. It's essential to your healing and recovery. If you are feeling so tired, I would cut the water jogging down to taking a walk for 30 minutes. It's counter productive to work out super hard if you are so fatigued. -
Go to the search box and type in Protein powders. There are a million different brands. There are powders, RTD and clear drinks. It's honestly a matter of taste. What one person likes another will hate. Check out the online stores, the health food stores, Whole Foods and drugs stores. Have a taste testing and find out what you like.

It must be awesome not to have to battle hunger every day. I've been dieting since I was 12, and spent much of my life within normal weight limits, but hungry because of the calorie restriction it really is because it allows me the space to think before I eat. I can decide to drink water, or do something else besides mindless snacking. I plan my meals & Snacks, then go out and enjoy life.

Why sleeve and not bypass?
BLERDgirl replied to seaniepoohbear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different surgeries, different procedure. I knew how much of a tool I needed. I didn't want to be rewired & I disliked the idea of malabsorption & dumping. -
Christmas Morning Breakfast - What should I do
BLERDgirl replied to MIMISAN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Blueberry muffin and scrambled eggs is not a bad thing unless you go nuts with it. Have 1 muffin or depending on the size, have half. Don't slather it with butter, just put a bit on. Eggs I say go for it. It's a god source of healthy Protein and fat. Then eat sensibly the rest of the day. In other words, partake of the meal, but in moderate doses.
