When did you buy new clothes?
BLERDgirl replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've bought very little. What I did do and am still doing is I started going through all my old clothes. I started at anywhere from a 26 - 32 depending on the cut. I have clothing all the way down to a 16. I purged and gave away loads of clothes. Some I donated to goodwill. I'm now trying out ThredUp. The only things I have bought are workout clothes, 2 bathing suits for the beach this summer and a dress that was on sale for $8. I've had a blast fitting back in my old clothes. I also buy new underwear because my bra size and panty size have gone down. I just buy enough to get by since I am losing. My advice is to just buy enough to get by. If you can catch a sale buy new, otherwise check out your local thrift stores. I just got a winter jacket from BCOutlet for $13 shipped and a pair of boots for $18. Elastic wait skirts will last a few sizes if you need presentable clothing for work as will draw string pants. -
How much did you lose the first 2 months?
BLERDgirl replied to majorsmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone experiences dramatic weight loss. Some are slow and steady losers. It's perfectly normal to loss 10 lbs a month. It does not mean you have failed or aren't doing things correctly. There are just a lot of variable as to how fast/slow a person loses. Comparing your weight loss to others is never a good thing. -
weight stuck 2 weeks out
BLERDgirl replied to Kgl24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Step away from the scale. Follow the instructions your were given. Get in all your protein and water. The weight loss will happen. Your body is readjusting to all the new changes and holding onto every single calorie. Once it figures out you aren't dying, the weight loss will continue. -
How long was ur process?
BLERDgirl replied to nomorequitting's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It varies depending on health status, insurance requirement and program requirement. My first appointment with the surgeon was in June. I received my approval letter in August. I had surgery in September. -
102 Pounds Gone, Now What?
BLERDgirl replied to wright616's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If both your doctor and your surgeon say you have reached goal then perhaps it's time to start thinking maintenance instead of weight loss. Sometimes as bariatric patients we have a disconnect with out bodies and what they should look like. There's even a small percentage who start to really like the feeling of losing weight after being overweight for so many years. Some even develop disorders where they go in the opposite direction and start losing more weight than is healthy. Please be careful. -

That fact that you have progressively gained may work in your favor. -
Unflavored protein?
BLERDgirl replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How big is the scoop, and for how many grams of Protein? Probably about ¼cup, 26gms of protein, zero carbs, zero sugar -
That's what I did . I didn't have a pre-op diet so I just focused on high protein, low calorie very clean meals.
-
It took me a long time to admit I needed this, but once I came to grips with that I had no doubts at all. Thankfully my pre-op period wasn't very long so I didn't really have time to waiver.
-
You're fine. I prefer not to weigh myself at home because it makes me crazy. I try to only get weighed at the doctor's. Sounds like you are doing okay. Just keep it up.
-
It really one day at a time. Your body is healing. Sipping and ice chips are just what you have to do now. The early days aren't always easy, but you do what you have to do. Not eating will only extend the healing process and pain.
-
Yes it gets easier. My program gave us binders with the entire process start to 1 year out from pre to post-op. It had sample menus, recipes, Vitamin, supplement and Protein shake.powder recommendations. It became my bible of sorts. If your program doesn't provide them, go to the dollar store and buy a binder and start your own. When you go to appointments like this, take notes and add them to your binder. Most importantly if you have questions do not hesitate to call your nutritionist or program coordinator and ask until you understand.
-
Yeah, I know it will be but I just wanna be normal again.... Ugh Welcome to your new normal. small, high Protein meals are it for life! Please try to come to term with that now. The sipping, the puree stage, the soft food stage will all pass and quickly be a distance memory, but eating high protein small meals is it for life.
-
You know the saying, "Fake it until you make it?" That's what you have to do. You have to get your Protein and Fluid in. There is no if, and or butt about it. Not getting in the proper nutrition can hinder your healing, hinder your weight loss, cause hair loss and negatively effect your health overall. If you really can't get it together then call your doctor and/or seek therapy. It's just that serious.

Probably not. Unless you have it in writing insurance will not reimburse.

Unflavored protein?
BLERDgirl replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the isopure. I emailed the company to verify that heating it would not denature the protein. I use it in pretty much everything. I add it to tea, I really like adding it to soup or vegetable broth. I mix it with yogurt, and I've even mixed it with egg salad & my scrambled eggs prior to cooking. It's a nice protein boost. It was really helpful in the early full liquids stage it was especially helpful. Instead of drinking 3 shakes a day, I did 2 shakes and then in the even I would have veg broth with unflavored protein powder added. It was a nice break from all the sweet of the shakes. Nowadays if I have a day where I may be running around I put a scoop in a small container in my bag. Then I can grab any beverage along the way and add it to make sure I'm getting in my protein. -
If you aren't getting in enough protein that can play a large part in why you are losing. What was your weight when you started? What is a typical eating day for you?

Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under
BLERDgirl replied to ladymacwhiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Technically I'm 5'2" 3/4. Depending on who's measuring I get labeled wither 5'2" or 5'3". (I also think it depends on how high my hair is sitting that day Doing well but I was super obese so I still have a ways to go. -
I did mine the other way around.I check my policy online to verify it was covered. I think looked at hospitals in the area that performed the surgery. I attend informational seminar for both. The one I was leaning towards I found out a friend of mine had gotten her bypass done at. I spoke with her about her experience and decided to go with her doctor. I actually didn't tell my primary until after I had received my approval letter. I attended the seminar in May, met with surgeon in June, received my approval in August and surgery in September.

I am vaguely familiar with it. From what I understand it's pretty physical. I would check with the doctor before resuming any workout past walking.

Milaxx - I'm vegetarian so I don't know it my foods would interest you.

My Doctor faked my surgery!
BLERDgirl replied to tblovingme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone has a difficult time. My surgery was easy a well. No real pain, just soreness. It felt like I did 100 situps the day before and my abs were sore, but that's it. No issues with gas, nausea, vomiting etc...., walked in recovery, tolerated everything I've tried to drink or eat. No need for pains meds. It's just the painful people are more vocal. -
What is everyone eating one week after surgery
BLERDgirl replied to chas4022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto, I was on full liquids. I did 2 shakes a day and non chunky soup or veg broth for dinner with unflavored Protein powder added. However programs vary. Some have a clear liquid phase week one and some go straight to purees. You should call and check your program for recommendations. -
When did people notice your weight loss?
BLERDgirl replied to newbeginnings1965's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@maggie409 - It wasn't rude, it was honest. Actually hijacking threads is rude (which I do not think was the pother poster's intent BTW). However since you're worried about her feelings, also know I sent her a PM offering to assist her in creating a thread so she can get answers. -
Does it get easier?
BLERDgirl replied to Shainadelphia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it gets easier and yes you will feel more restriction once you advance to soft foods. Hang in there!
