  1. I used it post op. Check with your nutritionist. It's plant based so I recommend using a nutra bullet because plant based powders can be a little gritty. I do really like their RTD version though. I keep a few on hand for emergencies. They have a coffee flavored RTD that is only available online. Check the orgain website because they often offer high value coupons.

    what are you eating?

Pureed cauliflower is amazing! I have been using it as a replacement for mashed potatoes for over a year....long before my surgery. It is not a starchy veg, so virtually no carbs. You can add plain greek yogurt and parmesan cheese to add Protein to it, plus it will kind of taste like loaded mashed potatoes. Yummy! You're right, I misspoke. It is low in carbs. However try as I might it never taste like mashed potatoes to me. I even tried roasting it a bit before pureeing. Please share the recipe.
  3. If you are not allergic to it. Stevia for baking can replace the traditional sugar in most recipes. As mentioned it will lower the sugar count, but there will still be naturally occurring sugar in the pumpkin. If you are simply trying to cut out refined sugar, you can also use a bit of real maple sugar instead brown sugar.

    More productive and motivated?

I'm 51, nearly 52. Yes I am more productive and motivated. I know that for me my weight loss won't happen if I do not work out I don't lose. I make it a point to get to the gym regularly and I find that as I lose weight I have more energy. So the 2 go hand in hand for me.
  5. I have more allergies than I can shake a stick at. This is what I do. 1. Take Zyrtec EVERYDAY before bed. Find out which antihistamine works best and stick with that. I tried Allegra for a bit and it wasn't strong enough. Claritin make me sleepy and if I fight it I feel drunk and nauseous. I only use Benedryl if I am having a reaction (hives or anaphylaxis) as it also makes me sleepy. 2. Do not take Vitamins until you have eaten food whether it is a Protein shake or more substantial foods. 3. Use the nasal spray after food as well. I only use mine during really high pollen times. I have the Zyrtec app on my phone and check it daily, but my body usually tells me. I cannot use it daily because it dries my nasal passages too much and I end up with a headache as a result. 4. Make sure you are using a PPI if you need it. I found I needed it most from month 3 - 6, but it wouldn't hurt to try it for a week or 2 to see if it makes a difference. 5. Make sure you are getting in plenty or water/fluids. I find my symptoms can get worse if I get dehydrated.
  6. So weird to see the extreme version of a medical condition you have on Grey's Anatomy. I even called the dx before the interns.

That's the one I have a pituitary adenoma. Symptom are giantism and weight gain and elevated prolactin levels. They didn't mention the prolactin on the show though. I've had counted MRI's to monitor it. They also tried meds twice to shrink it. Now they just watch & check growth with blood test and MRI's. As long as it's not growing we aren't going to surgery since that can be pretty gnarly. I didn't get the giantism, only the weight gain.

Oh wow. I wondered if that is what it was. I am glad they monitor it closely. That sounds scary.

At first it was. Your pituitary is crazy small. About the size of a lima bean. My tumor is about the size of a small pea. Meds made me sick and didn't really shrink it so as long as I'm asymptomatic we just watch it. I've had it since 2002 and I've probably had 30 head MRI's since. They also monitor my vision because if it grows it can press on your optic nerve and cause blindness.

  7. I am a big fan of steel cut or rolled oats. I buy them plain and cook my own. You get good carbs and a tiny bit of Protein with them. I also add a little Protein powder in my preparation of them or toss a little in my pre gym workout drink. I'm not a fan of breads in general. They fill me up too much for it to be worth it.
  8. BLERDgirl

    what are you eating?

I would add a half a scoop of unflavored Protein powder and maybe a tsp of finely shredded cheese. Otherwise it's all carbs. I use olive oil and coconut oil almost exclusively. I rarely use salt, but I use loads of other seasoning. However 11 lbs in 4 weeks is not bad. My advice is stay off the scale. This early out your body is still adjusting.
  9. It's a bit of a science project for me. Too many ingredients I can't/don't eat. However, I did a quick google and lot of people seem to like it. If you can't locate it perhaps have a conversation with your nutritionist about other ways to maintain a low carb, low sugar diet which is what he seems to be recommending.

    Idk what's wrong

It's perfectly normal to have pre-sugery nerves. What you ate wasn't that horrible. Okay the mocha was a calorie bomb, but the egg & sausage sandwich is something you could eat post op if you didn't eat the bread and the chili is actually a Protein rich choice. Skipping meals is not a good idea, but overall that day wasn't horrible. Either way it's done. Move on. Things you can do: Start planning for when your nerves hit. You've got about 6 weeks until surgery. Think about what things you can do and what foods you can incorporate into your life now that will make post op life easier. A few suggestions: Get a Water bottle or 2 and start carrying water with you everywhere and sipping. Practice eating sloooooowwwwllly. I mean snails pace slow as in taking teeny bites and chewing until food dissolves. Find a stress reliever. Learn sudoku, how to knew, carry a stress ball. If you are a stress eater you will need a new habit for post op life. Breathe: you will be fine.

Can't Figure This All Out…Need Help!

This is actually a pretty smart concoction. You're also getting a small electrolyte boost from the powerade.

Can't Figure This All Out…Need Help!

I'd say make a schedule. 1.) Make sure you are getting in ALL your Vitamins & supplements. (Remember Iron & calcium need to be taken at least 2 hours apart) 2) Start the day with Protein shake. DO NOT RUSH so you can get kids off. Sip slowly. 3) The night time stomach "rumbles" sound like acid. I agree with others you could probably use a PPI like omeprazole (Prilosec). Start with 20mg maybe 2 x's a day. 4.) If after a week of taking the PPI, the nausea med is not working ask your doctor about increasing the dosage or trying a stronger med. Some fatigue is perfectly normal in the early post op days, however being dehydrated and not getting your protein in can exacerbate that. Weight loss can also be stalled by inadequate nutrition & rest. Stay off the scale for a bit. Perhaps try only getting weighed at the doctor's for the first 3 months. Focus solely on eating well and healing.

    Calcium? Not so fast...

I had one pre-op and was fine. I'll ask my primary if that's something I should check annually.

    Calcium? Not so fast...

Interesting. I know I've read some studies that suggest dairy is not eh best source of calcium, but the supplement issue appears to only now being studied. Either way I guess this is a good reason to stay up on bloodwork so if you do have a deficient yo can take steps to correct it.
  16. Agreed. Log your food, even if it's temporary. It surprising how seemingly little things can add up. Food logging makes us look at what and how we are eating

    Eating too much...

Count me in. In fact I think I am even more odd because liquids fill me up. Protein shake, Water or Soup. Will fill me right up. One of the reason I have to space/schedule my water drinking is to make sure I can fit in food/protein and water. Doesn't matter if it's 30 minute before/after eating or 5.

    Does anyone know?

You should be, just check with your medical team first.
  20. What are you eating/drinking? From what I've read on here band to sleeve revision folks have to work a little harder to lose. If you aren't following the recommended eating guidelines that's likely the reason why you aren't losing. Weight loss starts in the kitchen not the gym.
  21. Read up on the airline's website regarding their Costumer of Size policy. Many will give you an extra seat without paying for it as long as the plane isn't full. One way to ensure you aren't on a full flight is to fly on non - peak hours & days. You can also check the COS policy on what the regulations are for pre-boarding. It may be worth paying and extra $10 - 20 to board first. As for seatbelts, when you are boarding simply tell the flight attendant you will need and extender belt. Most are pretty good about discreetly bringing one to your seat. The extender will also ensure you are comfortable for the return flight home. There's a very helpful Facebook group that may have more info/tips. Flying while Fat.

    Recovery time

It depends. I am retired but honestly after a week at home I was bored silly. If I was working I could easily have returned to work after a week . However I had no issues with gas or nausea and walking was easy for me from day one.
  23. I do not want to go to the gym tonight! I want to crack open this bottle of wine and watch Empire instead.....but I'm going to the gym anyway.

    Calories at 8 Months?

Agreed. Everyone is different. At 8 months I was eating 700 - 850. I didn't increase until about 9, 10 mths out. I currently eat between 900 - 1050/75. I've been working out 5 - 6 dys a week since probably moth 4 or 5. If you are eating well and still losing, then that's probably what your body needs. I see you are a bypass patient. Take into consideration you also have the malabsorption factor that sleeve patients don't have as much of.

    Is this normal...

Yes 5lbs is perfectly normal. Not everyone has huge numbers. Don't compare yourself to anyone.
