    Vegetarian breakfast ideas

I was gifted the most delicious medjool dates. I take 2 split them in half and stuff cheese in 2 and smoked seitan in the other. Makes the perfect salty sweet bite. Warning, it's a bit of a sugar hit, so this is not a Breakfast I would eat often, but if you have an active day ahead, it's a good natural energy source and full of Fiber. The thing is years ago I could have eaten nearly the entire packet.

    Protein target recommendation?

You're welcome. It's take some being creative, but it can be done and still leave you feeling full.

    Frustration and anger

I was the polar opposite. I lived life. I dressed fashionably and had fun. I also took no crap from anyone so I rarely got comments like that. Thankfully the people in my life never dared speak to me like that. You need friends who love you no matter what size you are.

@@retzlpa - I feel ya'. Most of these people need to simply be told to mind their business. Last I checked someone's weight was no one's business but their own. I say this whether a person decides to have WLS or stay fat. Just keep doing you and ignore the idiots.

    Protein target recommendation?

Today was a really good food day for me. I'm vegetarian but if you adjusted it, you could easily hit over 60 gms and keep calories low. Breakfast - 1 large egg, ¼cup shredded cheese, Cup of coffee using vanilla Protein powder instead of creamer - 286 calories 38gm protein. (I wait a ½ an hour between food and coffee) lunch - ½ cup frozen chopped spinach, ½ tbsp of rotel diced tomatoes with chilies to season, 3 ounces diced chicken breast - 126 calories, 20gms of protein Snack - Nuts Pistachios are my nuts of choice. Good protein, healthy fat, nice bit of crunch. Try the Wonderful - Roasted and Salted Pistachios- Single Serving Pack. Nuts are my weakness so I only buy the single serving packs and I only buy them 1 at a time. 1.25 Oz - 100 calories, 4 gms of protein dinner - ½ cup of romaine, Target - Market Pantry - Corn & Black Bean Chunky Salsa, 1 Tbsp, 3 ounces of Grilled Chicken Breast, dressed with ½ tbsp of olive oil - 13 calories, 18 gms of protein Totals for the day: 626 calories 16 carbs, 80 gms of protein. In between drink all the Water you can. You could also swap out the egg from breakfast for something more filling like steel cut oats and add the protein powder in that. It will easily keep you full until lunch. I'm not a big early morning eater, so light meals work best for me. Things like steel cut oat and romaine lettuce will also help prevent constipation. Especially if you make sure to get in a minimum of 64 ounces of fluids. I used to aim for 24 ounce in the morning 24 ounces in the afternoon and another 24 ounces before bed. I carry a water bottle everywhere I go and sip all day long.

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

I bought a sweatshirt to see Star Wars this past weekend from Kmart. A year ago I would have paid 3 times the price at torrid or someplace. Even though I knew the size said it should fit, it looked small to me. I it on and was supersized that it fit.

    Protein target recommendation?

In the early stages where the calorie count is low, it's challenging to meet the Protein requirement. Even more challeging the body can't absorb more than 30 gms of protein an hour. Try eating(drinking) 3 meals and 2 Snacks, or 5 small meals. Things that helped me was adding protein powder to everything. Unflavored powder in my Soup was a big help. I also added greek yogurt or nut butter to my protein shakes. Buy clear Protein drinks like Isopure NoCarb and add into your Water.
  10. I agree look around and make sure this is the procedure you want to do. Attend other seminars and ask questions. Particularly ask about follow up care and support. I was sleeved at a much higher BMI than you. It was the easiest surgery I have every had. I'm 14mths post op and have lost over 115lbs. In the meantime, I would look at eliminating processed foods and soda from your diet, increasing Water consumption and perhaps step up the exercise to something that challenges the core.

    kombucha

The alcohol content of it is very mild so I wouldn't worry about that. The fizziness might irritate your tummy so I would go slow with reintroducing it. You could also try letting it sit out before drinking although I don't know if it goes flat like soda does.

    So frustrated!

I have osteo-arthritis. Like others have said, the weight loss won't undo years of abuse. I keep my issues at bay with Water aerobics however every so often my right knee will still bother me. I regularly sleep with a pillow under it. As for NSAIDs the issue is that the can cause stomach irritation and lead to ulcers. If you need to take them, just be careful. Most doctors will allow it if there is no other alternative.

    Extra small stomach

I agree smaller, more frequent meals and dilute anything that's too thick.

What's the point in taking it? Will it help with any deficits? It just feels unnecessary to me.
  15. @@pinkbunies - When you next dock, find a drug store and stock up on some safe Snacks. Single servings of nuts, maybe a Protein bar or 2. Make it a goal to grab some fresh fruit from Breakfast in the morning and get a steamed veg or salad at dinner, and remember Water, water water. Splurge on a cocktail at dinner, but the rest of the day should be sipping. I've just booked a cruise for next year. If all goes well I will be at goal. I've already thought about how I plan to maintain while on the trip.
  16. It varies according to your height, sex, activity level and Protein goal. It would be best you sit down with your NUT and figure out what that exact range would be for you. I am 5'2" and female. I work out 4 - 6 times a week. I have a semi-sedentary lifestyle since I am retired. I wear a fitness tracker to help remind me to get in more steps. On non-gym days I eat around 900 calories with a 100gm protein/65 -75fld ounces goal. On Gym days I eat around 1100 calories with a 100gm protein/65 -75fld ounces goal. Typically I eat 3 meals and one snack a day.
  17. I pick and choose. Now that I am post-op. Pre-op I keep my circle very small. I didn't want to deal with anyone trying to talk me out of it or putting negative thoughts in my head. I believe you need to be able to go into surgery with a positive outlook. I did my research so by the time I was committed to surgery I knew what I was getting in to.

    I want a salad

Since I rarely eat bread, most things are a salad for me. I also like adding warm things to my salad. Sauteed onions/peppers/mushrooms, a sunny side up egg. I switch it up to keep things interesting.

    I want a salad

A salad doesn't have to have lettuce. It can be your favorite fresh veg and Protein. Some days I do cucumbers, tomatoes and a black Beans for a salad. Add a bit of finely diced jalepenos for a bit of zip.

    What Can I Do With...Vegetables?

Let me count the ways: roasted, steamed with garlic, baked if it's something large like eggplant or spaghetti squash, blanched so they retain crispness, and just plain old raw. I also like tossing a bit of spinach, fresh or frozen into a protein shake.

    I want a salad

Talk you your nutritionist. Different programs allow raw veg at different stages. I had salad at 6 weeks once I was out of soft foods. I am vegetarian so my body is used to processing raw vegetables with no issues. Also be clear on what you define as salad. For me I like dark, leafy green veg with a bit of Protein. I do not however need a bunch of sugary salad dressing. My salads are dressed either with olive oil or salsa. I then add all the crunchy veg I want. I just make sure to have some protein to balance it out. For me that's typically black Beans and a hardboiled egg with a bit of shredded cheese. I also find that what many are missing is just something with crunch after so many weeks of liquids and soft food. Try topping your Soup with some nuts or baked cheese crisps and see if that doesn't satisfy the need for crunch
  23. Have you spoken with your nutritionist? That calorie count is a bit high for someone 2 mths post-op at your activity level. I'm 14mths and I don't eat 1200 calories a day. You may be eating at maintenance level. It also sounds like you could try and increase your protein a bit. 60 is the bare minimum but I found I lost better if I hit at least 75. I currently eating a 100gms of protein a day or more. I drink 65 - 70 ounces of fluids, and I work out 4 -6 times a week. Until I was 8 mths I ate 800 -900 calories a day. Currently I eat between 1,000 - 1150. I find I lose best when I am at my most active and get in all my fluids. I would recommend calling the NUT and reviewing the food/activity diary with her.
  24. Only if you don't want to lose weight. That's grazing. Not only is that regressing back to bad habits, you aren't eating anything that will help meet your nutrition goals. That's a processed carb. It's not protein and it's not a vegetable. You really need to try and stick to a planned schedule of eating. 3 meal meals and 1 or 2 healthy Snacks. Learn a new habit for when you are home and not doing anything. For may of us boredom eating is what helped get us to the point of needing surgery. Learn to do things that other than boredom eating. Start doing puzzles or take that time to drink Water. Get up and walk around the house, or go to the gym and workout. I would also keep a food log. 16 wheat thins is 140 cals and 22 grms of carbs but only gives you 2 gms of protein. How many wheat thins do you think you are eating? Even more important how much protein are you taking in? Are you drinking 64 ounces of fluids?

Is this instead of a Multivitamin? As a supplement personally I would pass. I already take a multi, Calcium, Biotin and D3. Otherwise I eat a well rounded diet that contains whole grains, fresh fruit and veg. I get more than my share of superfoods. If you think it would help you, as long as it doesn't conflict with your existing Vitamins and supplements, I say go for it.
