  1. There are plenty of liquid vitamins that one could take that aren't food grade pesticides. My guts says run from this one.

    Loose skin fear!

@@Tssiemer1 - I think saggy facial skin is more of a concern for women in my age range. (I'm 52). Thankfull't y I havenhad any.
  3. It is a very common occurrence. If you do a search there are many suggestions on thing that can help. My doctor prescribes a 30 day course of the stool softener colace for all his patients. I went on day 5 and have been regular since. As you get further along and can incorporate fiber rich foods into your diet, things may get easier.

    Loose skin fear!

There are no guarantees. It a wide bunch of variables that are based on age & genetics. Things that help are exercise, and hydrating your skin inside and out by drinking plenty of eater and moisturizing well. However as for loose skin turning a man off, I wouldn't worry about it. Most men aren't going to care. The ones that do, aren't worth your time anyway. I was really large pre-op. I'm only halfway to where I want to be but so far it looks like my only areas of concern will be my thighs and tummy. I figure once I hit goal if things are not to my liking then I can look into plastics. My top half, including my face are so far sag. free.

    Bikes for big guys

Get a decent bike if you can. I'm riding a huffy because I wasn't sure I would actually stick to riding. I already had this bike from years ago when I rode regularly. I figured I'd get a tune up and then see how much riding I end up doing before I invest in a good bike. I plan to upgrade before I hit the trails again.

    Congrats!

Well, I've been yelled at today.

My doctor's office calls me. It's an automated system that requires a yes or no response. If you don't give one or it gets your answering machine, it will call back. They also email a reminder to my direct email AND if you choose to set up the hospital patient system (MyPennMedicine), it sends a message there as well. I personally set up reminders in my phone for a week in advance and the day before. Despite all of that I recently missed an appointment because for some dumb reason I thought the appointment was on a Tuesday when it was actually on a Monday. I showed up on Tuesday and was told to reschedule. It took another month to get an appointment because the Pope came to town. I was annoyed, but really I had no one to blame but myself.
  9. I consider myself pretty granola-y but why on earth would you need to eat that? I'm absolutely serious. What's the benefit? Maybe I'm missing something. Honestly why would you want to risk that on a new tummy?

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?

I just use my coffee press to make it. I don't heat the Water, just sit it in the fridge over night.

    Bikes for big guys

Is your starting weight correct? I currently ride in the city at that weight and I am currently using my old huffy mountain bike with a Terry's Bike seat. I'm think next summer I may upgrade and hit the bike trails in the city.

Etiquette of posting in "[opposite sex] Only" forum?

It's been my experience that they typically serve as a warning that this particular thread may be more closely related to a topic that pertains to a particular sex so enter at your own will. I've only seen one occasion where someone was asked not to participate.

    Post op appointment

How many months/weeks post-op are you?
  14. Call the doctor and get his advice. He may want you to continue the ducolax or he may prescribe a stool softener for you. If he has no suggestions then try some of the things mentioned in the various threads on this topic.

Well, I've been yelled at today.

So for those late to the party; OP posted that they woke up at 8:50 for an 8:30 appointment and then was informed they would have to reschedule. This was the 2nd cancellation/reschedule because the previous appoint was canceled by OP due to mixing up dates in her calendar. Since this was the 2nd occurrence and even though OP gave a week's notice for the previous reschedule she was informed by staff that 1 more missed appointment would result in being dropped from th program. OP seem to feel this was mistreatment due to her weight. Responses have attempted to explain that this is how a medical practice is run and weight has nothing to do with it. ETA: I have been corrected via PM the following:
  16. I was 50, turned 51 a month later
  17. Sorry about your diagnosis. Good for you on finding a silver lining in all of this. Sending you good prayers/wishes/vibes for a speedy recovery

    Wine

I waited 6 mths. Speak to your nutritionist and use discernment. Ask yourself if you can drink 4 ounces of wine and still work in your protein.

    Vitamins- Overwhelmed

Everything comes in chewable form. It just depends on what you like. If you are normally okay with swallowing pills, I would only get a 60 -90 day supply in chewable form. I only had to worry about the big pills, my multi and the calcium. everything else I was allowed to swallow and I went back to swallowing those after 6 weeks. You also may not like the taste of some of them. Get smaller amounts and try them out first.
  20. Are these grown women or teenage girls? "a lot of hard work" is all you need to say.

    lymphedema

Are you eating any processed foods. In my experience even things like ketchup and salad dressings were a no-no. Do you drink sodas? When I gave up processed foods and sodas I noticed an almost immediate change. I think in 30 days my feet and ankles went down considerably. The other thing that helped was pool walking and acquafit classes but I don't see where you can fit that in your current schedule.

    My hair :(

It's hit or miss as to whether you will experience hair loss or not. Certainly not meeting your Protein goals does not help. At 3 mths out your should be able to hit the minimum of 60 gms. In fact from what I've been reading many practices are recommending 80 or 100. It's in large part due to the shock to your system from the rapid weight loss. Your body is using all it's protein resources for nourishment which means it's not using it for hair and nails. Biotin may help a little although my dermatologist says biotin will likely help more with nails than hair.

    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

What an old but interesting thread. The odd thing is I didn't eat unhealthy I just ate a LOT if it. My family cooked from scratch. We ate all sorts of vegetable baked and steamed as well as those cooked with fat back or neck bones. We NEVER ate any blue box crap, it was real mac and cheese with lots of butter, cream and cheese. Every meal was 2 types of meat, 2 veg, 2 starches. We had to eat veg and we could only drink Water with dinner, but there was always dessert. Snack were different. We weren't allowed soda. We would sometimes mix grape juice with soda water and pretend we had soda. They gave us fruit. Especially apples with organic Peanut Butter. Sometimes Apple butter on rice cakes. This was before rice cakes were popular and they were literally just puffed rice baked. Candy was that this honey and sesame seed confection. They were actually pretty tasty. We ate good food but the sheer volume was insane Our family's crab boils were legendary In high school I ate like the typical high school student I bought my own food with my allowance. I developed a Pepsi addiction and my favorite snack was Doritos, a snickers with a Pepsi to chase it down. College was poor student fair. Lots of ramen and cheap food. Still Sunday dinners I knew I could gorge and I did. When I had my initial consultation, I told my NUT I liked healthy foods as much as I like junk food. It took a few sessions for her to see what I was talking about.

Well, I've been yelled at today.

I have a lot of health conditions I manage so I see a LOT of doctors. What you have described is pretty much standard cancellation policy. Most also have a policy in place that if you are 15 minutes late or more you will not be seen. So even tack on a no show fee. This has nothing to do with thinking you are a "bad person" or that they lack compassion for your being obese. It's simply hospital wide policy. My other feeling is that the rescheduled appt wouldn't be such a big deal if this second occurrence hadn't happened. Again this is pretty standard policy in most reputable medical facilities. If they have to report to insurance a certain amount of supervised appointments and you do not show up for those appointments, chances are insurance would deny the pre-authorization anyway. My suggestion is have your cry. Then look at your schedule and clear time for these appointments. If you aren't a morning person, don't schedule early appointments. Set those appointments in your phone and send yourself reminders a week out. There will be more challenges than this post - op so pull on your big girl panties and get to work.

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

Ditto. I LOVE greek yogurt and since it's a good source of Protein I eat a lot of it. The goal is to find good, clean (meaning not heavily processed) sources of protein that are easily digestible. Go to the market and start reading labels. May be try cottage cheese or ricotta baked with a little shredded cheese.
