  1. What's on you eating plan? At 6 weeks I was allowed all foods as tolerated so I probably could have picked at tiny portions of everything.

    Vitamin crystals

    Never heard of them. Link?
  3. I remember my weight loss at my 2wk follow up & and my 6 week f/u. After that it gets fuzzy. I only really keep track of my current weight. I know as a newbie it's exciting to step on the scale post op. You've been looking forward to this for a long time. Finally you'll get rid of this weight. Many have in their minds this big number . Truth is some do get that big number, but others get a small number or no loss at all. Still some even show a weight gain from being swollen, IV fluids and the like. In the end it doesn't matter. What matters is you relearn how to eat and live a healthier lifestyle.

Dangerous Diet Tip #4: Salads: Your Weight Loss Staple.

As a vegetarian in my prep-op life I strived for 50 grams of protein on a 1200 - 1500 calorie a day diet. I never did much else with the micros except make sure I didn't go over MFP default settings. Sodium was the only one I manually set to a lower rate. I was thinking I would just go back to those levels once I reached maintenance. However I think I could manage 60 grams of protein. I knew too much protein was hard on the kidneys. That's part if the reason WLS patients need regular blood work.
  5. That's all you needed. Not everyone has 5 scars. I had a radical hysterectomy also done laporascopically 10 years ago. I only had 3 scars from that. I have more now because the surgeon made 3 (or maybe 4) incisions for my sleeve. In short, there's nothing to worry about here.
  6. Note to self: Do not have steel cut oats for breakfast AND a kale salad for lunch. For reasons....

Both meals were sooo good! I found these organic precook steel cut oats by Pacific. Not a bunch of junky ingredients. I hate cooking steel cut oats at home because they take so long. These were delish! Then I bought this kale salad because I was out with my sibling and they ordered a meatball sub from Wawa. I added an egg and a bit of cheese for more protein. Again delish. Just didn't occur to me the combined effect of the 2. Let's just say I felt "cleansed" after that.

Sometimes I put steel-cut oats in a little crock-pot overnight on low. They are perfectly cooked in the morning!

  7. There's no good answer here. Some people even show a weight gain.
  8. Note to self: Do not have steel cute oats for breakfast and a kale salad in the same day.

  9. I'm not saying you are flaunting it, I'm saying it could feel that way to them. I'm not sure why it's important that they text you back and say congratulations. Don't get me wrong, it's an accomplishment and you should be proud. It just seems unfair to expect them to be over the moon when they may be struggling with their own weight loss issues. Other than talk to them abut how much you have loss have you asked them how they are doing? Even better have you asked them what good tips they have discovered? Maybe try changing the script a little. As an outsider I just don't see their silence as being mad at you. Like I said, I'd stop talking weight loss with them at all. It may just be more than they can handle at this point.
  10. Is this a common recommendation? (No dried fruit permanently?). I enjoy some dried fruit and it's kind of a staple in backpacking/camping. I hadn't heard this. :-( No. I can have it, just not in large amounts. In fact I often use raisins dried cranberries and dried cherries in oatmeal.

    Corn

Unless it makes you sick, there is nothing you can never eat again. However the amounts and frequency of how often we eat it often has to change drastically. Other than in soup, I don't think I've had corn more than 3 times in the year I've been sleeved. I haven't had cornbread at all. I used to love them both, but now it's just not high on my list of priorities.
  12. Stop telling her. She may be dealing with her own issues and your success could actually be discouraging to her. It could feel like you are flaunting your success over hers. If she's a friend, why not just find something else to talk about? It's not their job to pat you on the back. If the friendship is worth it to you, then take weight loss out of the equation.

    Snacks

Google Bariatric food Manual. Several PDF's that you can download should come up. It should cover all food stages. My favorite Snacks early on was plain greek yogurt with chocolate Protein powder mixed in and then frozen to a pudding like consistency. I also liked using a tbsp of almond butter Other snacks I like are: String cheese Single Serving pack of pistachios, cashews or almonds Peeled and diced cucumber with a splash or sriracha and lime juice.

    Kibbeh

I haven't had them post-op because of the rice. if I get in a cooking mood I may buy some grape leaves and stuff them with a black rice mixture.

I'm vegetarian with aims to go vegan. I barely like the idea that I currently eat eggs and dairy. Eating actual animal flesh is out of the question. I'm also deathly allergic to all seafood . I used to eat sushi, but only the vegetarian options. Sashimi is also a giant no go.
  16. My concern would be that a personal trainer doesn't have any training in treating bariatric patients who have vastly different stomach capacities and nutritional needs that a person who has not had WLS. Who provided information on your nutrition for post-op life?
  17. I know it's weird but I could never do the really large containers. It was just too overwhelming. Refill a 24 ounce bottle 3 times a day? No problem. I actually get joy out of refilling it. It's like a small pat on the back. I mentally think "1 down" or "only 1 more to go."
  18. I'm deathly allergic to all seafood and have been known to have reactions to strong airborne smells. I'm also vegetarian so I'm probably not one to ask for recipes, but I would think anything that could be made in a crockpot could be made in this. I've had my eye on it for a while but haven't bought it yet. You could try Eggface or even pinterest for healthy crockpot meals.
  19. Talk to your doctor about increasing your dosage or switching to a stronger med.
  20. I do half plain greek yogurt, half mayo. Same taste, half the calories with a tiny Protein boost. Oh wait. There's such a thing as a single serving crock pot. You can bring your own food without having to heat up in the communal area. I'm deathly allergic to seafood and never ate in the office lunch area because if someone heated up seafood I could have a anaphylactic episode. I became a master at bringing self contained lunches.
  21. Buy multiple Water bottles. Carry them everywhere. In the early days I would take a bottle to bed with me. When I woke up my first goal was to drink at least 4 - 8 ounces before Breakfast. Another 8 -12 after breakfast. I had a big gap between lunch which was usually between 12 -1 pm and dinner which is 6 -7 pm for me. That was prime drink time. I aimed for at least 20 - 24 ounces. After dinner it was as much as I could handle. Now that I can drink normally I use 20 - 24 ounce water bottles. My goal is one in the morning, one in the afternoon and the last one after dinner. If you need reminders try setting the alarm on your smartphone.
  22. Here's the article. Also tied in with the reflux discussion should be some discussion on PPI's what they do and how they work.

    So what's changed?

I'm a year out. I used to love fried foods. LOVE. Every version of available; tempura, a somosa, Southern cooking. If it was batter and fried, I loved it. Now I want my veg grilled, roasted or raw. I haven't had a sandwich that wasn't wrapped in lettuce or a hoagie in forever. The thought of a hoagie is nauseating. I'm from Philly. Hoagies are practically in our DNA. The thought of all that bread and filling is barf inducing.

    Pre Op Diet

They probably are but you might want to call your doctor or nutritionist and confirm. If you do a search on the forums there are several threads with suggestions on what to eat during a pre-op diet. Check out the Food & Nutrition section.
