What sort of food are they ordering?

I was a heel gal in my 20's. I could walk blocks with 4 inch & 5 heels. As my weight went up, my heels went down. 114lb down and I am back to wearing heels & wedges. I stay in the 2 -3 inch range due to arthritic knees, but I can wear them comfortably.

Sleeved 9/18/14 down 114lbs. @@reree6898 is correct your sucess depends on how hard you are willing to work and comply with doctor's instructions. Choose your bariatric program wisely.

My hairdresser just scared me
BLERDgirl replied to anna9/15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I had a dollar for every person who knew a friend of a friend who had something bad happen because of WLS I'd be a rich gal by now. Her story matter not. I am living, breathing proof of the benefits of this surgery. I have lost 114lbs! That is a full grown adult women in fat! I feel better than I have in years! -
Caffeine. I was instructed no caffeine for the first 6 weeks. That rules out hot chocolate and only allows decaf or herbal teas. Caffeine can cause acid and irritate a healing stomach and lead to ulcers. When in doubt call and ask your nutritionist or doctor.

Have you talked to your nutritionist/doctor? Do you exercise? Meet all your protein/fluid goals? I can only speak from experience. You no longer have as much gherlin, the hunger hormone, however you still have head hunger and the ability to nibble on slider foods. If you do not combat those, yes you can gain. The old adage "it's a tool, not a magic wand" applies here. @@CowgirlJane is right. What and how you eat matters as much as how much. I don't necessarily practice low carbs, but I try to eat clean, unprocessed carbs. What's a typical eating day for you?

SURGERY CANCELLED 3 days before it was scheduled
BLERDgirl replied to Beachy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. How could they schedule without approval? That would be a HUGE red flag for me. -
I've been on drugs that I had to wean off. I survived. I followed my doctor's orders and all went well. Side effects of panic attacks are: Shortness of breath or hyperventilation Heart palpitations or a racing heart Chest pain or discomfort Trembling or shaking Choking feeling Feeling unreal or detached from your surroundings Sweating Nausea or upset stomach Feeling dizzy, light-headed, or faint Numbness or tingling sensations Hot or cold flashes Fear of dying, losing control, or going crazy They can lead to high blood pressure and/or cardiac issues.

There are actually many of us that had an easy recovery. My first few days were fine. Hell's my first day was fine. I was up walking in recovery, could get in and out of bed with no assistance and didn't really have any pain, just soreness. It happens. Be glad and enjoy it!

White Stripe on Tongue Common?
BLERDgirl replied to AmyML's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds like thrush. A mild yeast infection of the mouth. You may want to give the doctor a call. -

Not beets person. They taste like dirt to me, but golden beets roasted with fingerlings and asparagus or green Beans is good. I put the asparagus/green bean in when they root veg are nearly done so they stay nice and crisp. The only seasoning they need are garlic and good evoo.

Thoughts on Diet Coke or caffeine free diet drinks.
BLERDgirl replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never plan do drink soda ever again. Nutritionally not worth it to me. I don't do diet foods. No diet drinks for me. I did decaf per my doctor's orders for the first 6 weeks and now have a cup of coffee probably 4 times a week. -
Did the doctor even perform the surgery?!?!
BLERDgirl replied to OctoberRust127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you eating/drinking? What stage are you on? All liquids, purees, soft foods? Are you on a PPI? What dosage? I would put the scale away for the first month. You are still swollen inside and may even be retaining fluids from the IV's and pain meds you were on. -
@@Hello new me - Excellent! That's exactly the type of thinking I was talking about.

Weird directions from my Surgeon
BLERDgirl replied to jreneewarnke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Again depends on the doctor. Some say for every 2 bites of Protein, take one of a dark green veg like broccoli. Are you keeping a food log? You may find that using something like MFP you can have a ¼ cup of broccoli with 2 ounces of protein. if you are craving that broccoli you may want to let that be your snack. One of my favorite Snacks is diced cucumber. It's not going to hurt you and may keep you from getting constipated. I also find that those of us with higher BMI's tend to get more restrictive calorie recommendations. -
Weight gain at barely 2 weeks post op
BLERDgirl replied to MickeyMax95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used MFP from day one. Not because I was calorie counting. I make my own Protein shakes and I wanted to make sure I was hitting my protein goals and I also like to monitor my macros. I also think it's a good habit to get into for later when you need to count calories. Having that food diary helped me to see just how much that ¼ cup here or small bite there added up to and kept me accountable. It wasn't about keeping my calorie count low, it was about making the connection with the food and how it effected my body. I can tell by looking at my diary if I will show a loss at the doctor. -
It's a matter of taste really. I like coconut Water. Brands in the market I like are the Vito (I get the plain), and the Zico. If you don't like the taste try blending it with a small bit of apple or grape juice. Emphasis on small, like 1 -2 ounces.

Weird directions from my Surgeon
BLERDgirl replied to jreneewarnke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell your surgeon that's nice, but you need actual measurements. 2 ounces? 4? Ask him point blank is there a Protein goal you should hit, a calorie goal. In short let him know you find his answers too vague to be helpful. If he is not available by phone or email, then you may want to google bariatric handbooks or manuals and download a PDF file. This is why I get annoyed with vague doctor's. Everyone has a different program. Here's what I ate. \ Months 1 -3 I ate 400 - 600 calories Months 4 - 8 I ate 600 - 800 Since month 9 I have been eating ~ 1,000 calories a day. I work out 4 - 6 days a week. Most days I do 3 meals and 1 snack You don't mention your starting weight or height. That plays a part in your nutritional needs as well. -
Electrolytes. Try drinking or eating any one of the following each day: coconut Water, gatorade, a banana. The added potassium should take care of the muscle cramping. I used to get horrible charlie horses in the middle of night and coconut water did the trick.
