Do the best you can. Maybe keep it basic like soup with unflavored protein powder. If it last longer than 3 days I would call the doctor.

@@Kindle I am the same way about nuts. I literally buy 1 single serving pack at a time. I make it my post work out treat because I can swing by the store after the gym. I'm sure I look crazy coming into Walgreens every day and buying 1 pack of nuts, but if I bought 5 packs on Monday, I'd gobble the all up by Monday evening. @@Ashlegal - Yep, I was a disordered eater. It was amazing how long I could go without eating. Yesterday I was having an off day. I accidentally overslept and before I realized it, it was 4:30 and I hadn't eaten.

Then stop. You hit 50. Let it be good enough. It's of no good if you bring it all up. In the morning review your food log and think about way to better hit your protein goal.

Weight Gain 1 month post op
BLERDgirl replied to Power Surge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't personally experience it, but it's not an uncommon occurrence. Every couple of days someone post with a similar experience. Just continue to follow your program. Your body is still adjusting to a lot of new changes. -
I was allowed on purees. Check with your NUT whether it's allowed. Some don't because it's a carb. Your NUT will also tell you whether it's allowed at purees or soft foods.

Not necessarily. Some of us have tummies seemingly made of steel that rarely if ever throw up. I don't think I've thrown up since I left the hospital over a year ago. I agree with @@stacyg1, you had restriction but kept eating anyway. It was likely spaced far enough apart that you didn't have any other negative effects. My suggestion would be to go back to weighing and logging everything. If you feel eating frequently works better then plan 5 small meals or 3 meals and 2 Snacks. If it's planned and accounted for there's less chance you will over eat. If you think your are having issues with acid perhaps you may want to stay away from highly acidic foods.

When was the first time you weighed this much and when was the last?
BLERDgirl replied to Cape Crooner's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't been at my current weight in over 10 years. At that time I was horrified because it was the most I had ever weighed and I was scared of being in the 300's. -
I know 7 pounds sounds like a lot, but it's really not. I think it does show that a slip here & there can be dangerous. Follow up with your doctor. I suspect a few months with fewer to no slip ups & you may have the scale going in the right direction again.

Was that person your clone? If you aren't identical then don't compare. There are too many variables. Simply focus on yourself and your progress.

Finding balance / sustainability with food
BLERDgirl replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try hard to make healthier versions of tastes I love. It takes being willing to experiment in the kitchen. For example, I went through 3 variations to make pancakes with protein powder. I don't buy diet foods so I am mostly trying to reimagine regular food. It can be little things like cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes or making a rice bowl without the rice or using quinoa instead. Tonight I made a really tasty 3 ingredient snack. I took unsweetened coconut shreds added 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, and enough water to blend. I whizzed it in the nutra bullet to make a paste then folded into half a cup of Greek yogurt. I swear it tastes like the inside of an almond joy! Next time I may add a tsp of raw cacao powder & a few almond slivers to get the complete taste. -
You are losing weight. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stick with your program. That means hitting your Protein and Fluid goals. Try to get in some form of exercise on a regular basis. There is no rush, this is a lifestyle change, not a race. In order to be successful you need to stick to the program. There are ways to eat healthy even if you are not a cook. However you must be committed to eating the right things. If you are self medicating with food as a coping mechanism for grief, it may be time to seek professional help with a counselor or therapist.

Hello Everyone Newbie Onboard!
BLERDgirl replied to DivaSoBlessed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Welcome! Many people approach WLS from different angles. Talk to your PCP and review the requirements for you insurance. Chances are with your BMI and comorbs. you will qualify even if you don't lose on a supervised diet. They likely have the info online, download it an take a look at it. I would then what facilities accept your insurance. Look for a Center of Excellence. Then attend an informational seminar. I strong encourage people to look into more than one doctor/facility before choosing. There have been a few discussions on choosing a center lately. I'll link the 2 I think will be most helpful, but I also encourage you to use the search feature on the site and check out a few more post. How did you find your Surgeon... Consider Follow Up Support when choosing a Surgeon -

Agreed. My puree and soft foods stage were pretty limited. I didn't mind since I viewed them as temporary. I just stuck t eating things I liked. -

Long term post-op hydration difficulties
BLERDgirl replied to angelstwo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I split it up. I have 24 ounce water bottles. Goal is to refill at least 3 times a day. I aim for 1 before noon, 1 before 6pm and the 3 before bed. -
There is a waterproof Fitbit. Check there website. I use polar loop which I specifically purchased cause it's waterproof

Nuts. I love them so I only buy the single serving packs 1 at a time. I could literally eat a pound of pistachios, cashew or macadamia nuts. Macadamias are high in fat so even the single serving packs of those are few and far between. I've had them once since I was sleeved. The other are fine as a post workout snack. chocolate anything. I prefer fancy dark chocolate, but really even a reese's will do in a pinch. Something else I don't keep in the house. I will take a walk to the local bodega and buy a mini for $.05. In short my practice is anything I know I will binge on I cannot keep in the house.

How Did You Find Your Surgeon? (Or Where Are You Looking?)
BLERDgirl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I look at the major hospitals in my area. I knew my insurance would be accepted at most if not all of them. I wanted a Center for Excellence. I then wanted to know if the doctors could accommodate my needs. I am vegetarian with multiple food & medication allergies. Having had a few negative experiences with nutritionist over my vegetarianism, I needed to know if the program would respect that. I looked at one program and honestly wasn't crazy about the doctor. His pre-op diet was 2 weeks on slim fast and he wasn't very open to using other alternative Protein shakes. He was also pushing me towards the bypass and I was more interested in the sleeve. I had a friend who had bypass at UPenn. She raved about her doctor and experience. I attended the seminar. After hearing them speak and asking questions, they seemed a better fit. I actually forgot to tell my PCP who I adore btw, until a copy of my approval letter was sent. She called to follow up (one of the reasons why I like her). I explained I was in the process of pre-op testing. She was thrilled for me and said to let her know if there was anything she needed to do. I am beyond happy with my choice. My surgical experience was event free. I like the team approach that the center utilizes. I like that I have a nutritionist that I can ask questions and have a back and forth conversation with. I like that they provide a handbook with the entire process from pre to post op life with samples and recommendations. That handbook became my bible of sorts during those early months. I am completely satisfied and don't think I would have changed a single thing.
