  1. Here the handouts from my Baiatric Handbook. Also if the sweet taste is too much, you could also try the unflavored powder and just add that to foods on you allowable food list. I am one of the ones that dislikes Premier Protein. I use the unflavored powder and also the NoCarb drinks but only the tea and coconut flavors.

    Stomach lump 4 months post-op

You can have your doctor check it out, and you should just to make sure things are as they should, but that may just be your body. I attended the support group at my hospital today. They had a plastic surgeon as one of the guest speakers talking about skin removal surgeries. One of the before pictures he showed looked quite similar to that. It was just how the body settled.

    For the physically active sleevers...

I started exercising for 2 reasons: 1 I got seriously ill with facial shingles when I was 44/45. It literally knocked me on my butt. My case was so sever I was on bed rest for 2 mths and very weak afterwards. I was also too young for something more commonly seen in senior citizens. I knew then if I didn't do something I would just get progressively sicker and sicker. Shingles left me with trigeminal neuralgia nerve damage on my face. 2) I developed arthritis in my left knee. It was in the early stages but the ortho told me I needed to increase te range of motion and I needed to lose weight. I started looking for a Water aerobics class almost immediately. I also changed my eating habits, but that's another story. What I did was start at 2 days a week and slowly build up to 5 - 6 days a week. So pre-op I was already exercising. I can't say I love it, but I do love that post work out feeling and I like the changes it has made in my body. Since I started at a higher than typical weight I knew for me regular exercise would be one of the things that would give me a fighting chance against excess skin. I know I will have it. I have over 200lbs to lose. I am just trying to minimize how much need. At this point (114lbs down) the upper body looks pretty good. I will likely need something done to the thighs and maybe a panni.
  4. Where do you get these? I need to look them up to see f I could use them.

    Confused by Soup

I guess this is where milage varies. My Soups consist of veg and Beans pureed with just enough liquid to blend. I'm not gonna count that as liquid. Thankfully I have always had the tummy of steel. I can drink 5 - 20 minutes after eating, no problem . Cereal other than hot cereals aren't really my thing. Bottom line? When in doubt confer with your NUT.

The fear of regain is REAL!

I have a fear of not only regain, but stoping where I am which is halfway. I know I have to stay focused. I have 2 several friends who had Bariatrc procedures. One had bypass 10 years ago. She got down to a size 4, but never ate properly or keep up with blood work & supplements. She is now a 16, but has literally lost all her teeth, and is constantly sick. Another lives in Europe, was banded then converted to bypass. Also had issues with bone breakage and slow healing. I did this to optimize my health, not just get skinny. So I try to stay focused on the things that promote good health, not just weight loss. As for your relatives I would rise above and ignore. If they felt better about their actions they wouldn't need to taunt you.

    Stalling out already...

Thank you... I was informed by so other ladies that I need to increase my calories. I only eat about 550 a day.Have you spoken with your nutritionist? That's the person you should discuss increasing calories with.

    Confused by Soup

Soup is closer to food than liquid esp once you are at the soft food stage.
  9. It starts with shopping. Stock your home with healthier alternatives. If they complain allow 1 not so healthy treat only. For yourself food logging is vital. Use the Internet to look up healthy but great tasting alternatives and don't be afraid to try them. ALWAYS have a Water bottle with you and take a sip any time you get the impulse to eat when you shouldn't.
  10. Unless it's an insurance requirement it shouldn't be a problem. Especially since this is a doctor your surgeon frequently refers patients to.

Replace bad addictions with healthy addiction!

I love exercising and I'm pleased to see I can do more and more things. Even when the instructor has to correct my form I like. Just happy to see I'm not the only one. Now if only I could curb my shopping addiction....
  12. A good friend just told me I need to throw out my old sweats. She said they aren't baggy, they are just plain old too big.

    VSG and deprres/anxiety meds

As @@2goldengirl mentioned plenty of people with varying degrees of anxiety/depression have been approved. I think it you have issues with it the best thing to do is make sure you have good supports in place for post-op life. Sometimes the many changes that come with the effects on your body combined with dealing with the challenges of relearning to eat and reexamining your relationship with food can be difficult to manage in the early stages. Better to be prepared.

Anyone else with high BMI to start?

My all time high BMI was 73. When I look at before and after pictures I am amazed that I didn't see how big I had gotten. Still a long way to go, but glad to see the scale moving in the right direction.

    Sleevers over 300lbs?

I used to joke there was getting to be too much of me to love. @@apeters9284 - Congrats on your eight loss. My highest weight was 414, I was 412 DOS. I had no pre-op diet or med supervised 6mth diet. I'm down 114 but I'm short so I still have a ways to go. I like hearing how others are fairing year 2. I'll admit I had a bit of hiccup because I got in my head head thinking about having another year before I am close to goal. Had to do some readjusting. I'm attending the support group tomorrow and I changed up my workout routine a little.

Replace bad addictions with healthy addiction!

I did the same thing. Now I'm trying to take it down a notch and incorporate being active into my everyday like. I now aim for 4 -6 days a week instead, but also aim to hit at 8 -12 k on my activity tracker each day. That means doing the usual things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away in the parking lot, etc...
  17. I have bladder frequency. I was up so much they finally just unhooked my IV. I was already drinking & I wasn't using the pain pump so I didn't need it. They left the port in just in case. On a positive note, I got in plenty of walking with all the back & forth to the bathroom. ????

    Purée purée purée

Try using an app like lose it or my fitness pal. Logging your foods is the best way to keep track of how you are eating. I use MFP and start each morning by planning what I will eat for the day. In the evening I review, add/subtract what I actually ate. It's been an invaluable tool for me
  19. STOP You have to make new reactions/responses. It it makes a difference write them down. Seriously, make a list of 5 things you can do other than eat. The next time you get the impulse to eat when you shouldn't use you list. You have this new tool and you are in the honeymoon phase where key weight loss can happen if you let it. If it becomes too much of a problem, it may be time to explore therapy and figure out why you are doing this to yourself.

    Help!

I never had the gurgling and the only time I experienced tightness was if I ate too fast. I'm 14mths out and I eat between 3/4 and 1 cup depending on the food. I am simply no longer interested in large quantities of food.

    Protein Problems

Try a different protein drink. There are a million different types out there.
  22. The post is how I intended. There a link back to this post on another thread for a reader giving difficulties. I was just letting the OP know I linked back to this post.
  23. This post could not have come at a better time. I've been struggling emotionally a bit. It's weird because I knew and could identify the triggers, and I made plans for support, but it was still a bit of a battle. So this morning I tried a new workout class at the gym. I took advantage of being in a new workout room and looked at my body. Still a large woman, but I had a neck and an identifiable waistline. The weight is coming off strangely. I am a solid 18 up top and 20 - 22 down below. My hips & thighs are large and I will likely need to have skin surgery when I hit goal. Nevertheless, I made it through the entire workout class. Taking that frank look at myself helped me see how far I had come and made me acknowledge how far I have to go. It strengthened my resolve to stay the course. I'm still planning to attend the support group on Saturday, but I just feel a renewed sense of "I can do this."
  24. There is no guarantee. You have to think about how you have recovered from illnesses in the past. I am retired but I had a really easy surgical experience. I could have returned to work in 5 days no problem. However, there are others who needed weeks to recuperate before returning to work. If it's a desk job that you can fake your way through for 2 days, I'd chance it. Just be honest with yourself and your own limitations.
  25. Unless your doctor specifically says so, it's fluids not water. I use 1 20 ounce bottle of Isopure split into 4 parts & mixed with water in my 24 ounce water bottle. So I'm actually drinking 52 ounces of water and 20 ounces of Isopure in addition to any fluids I may get from tea, coffee or soup. The goal is to not get dehydrated, flush your kidneys & help your bowels function better. Since the Isopure also contains 40 gems of protein it helps me hit my protein goal as well. I also found that eating more dense foods helped. For example oatmeal or grits for breakfast stuck with me more even if it was only a quarter cup. Lentil soup with veg crumbles was more filling than a veg soup. Adding yogurt to my protein shake & even a tbsp of almond butter. In small quantities these foods stuck with me better.
