What can I do with...sweet peppers?
BLERDgirl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Salads, stir fry, blended with olives for a dip or to serve over meats like chicken or beef. -
It doesn't make it harder. In some cases it can make it easier since sleep apnea is sometimes considered a comorbidity. It is likely that your surgeon may want you on a cpap machine prior to surgery. Things like whether or not you have apnea are things your anesthesiologist need to know so they can better manage your breathing during surgery.

Might be a stupid question....
BLERDgirl replied to baileyj908's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suspected that it was something like this. The good news is turn around time once it actually goes to the insurance company is typically only 3 - 5 days. If you are concerned I would call the office manager back and remind her of your tentative surgery date and ask if she could follow up with the hospital's pre- cert dept. -

So sorry just seeing this. Did you already have surgery? How are things going? -
Why not mix protein powder with water?
BLERDgirl replied to BobbyD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anytime I mix protein powder with a hot beverage or soup I always dissolve the powder into a small portion of warm water first. Once dissolved then add the hot and you shouldn't have any lumps. Dumping or pouring and entire scoop into hot things causes the protein to seize up into and unpleasant lump. -
I understand now. If I recall correctly these are the new shakes your NUT recommended? I would call her back and explain the reaction you're having.

I'm unclear. Was it a strain to go? Are you getting constipated?

Calling Vegan BariatricPal Members: Which Protein Powder Do You Use?
BLERDgirl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
With plant based powders I strongly advise using a nutra bullet or similar device. The only one I ever tried that was not at least a little gritty was Biochem vegan -

I'm 3 wks post-op and had a beer
BLERDgirl replied to Vanessers2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've gotten a lot of good advice. Here's my concern: 1. You are 3 weeks out from surgery. Still regularly throwing up and your husband a) takes you out and orders you a beer. That's not only sabotage, that's a bit passive aggressive behavior. 2. You go along with this and then drink said beer. That's self sabotage. Sure one beer may not hurt you, but it's setting the stage for a pattern of one offs that can impede your success. Ask yourself will your husband support your weight loss efforts or will he constantly be tempting you and/or putting you in situations that may challenge your resolve? How will you react? If you don't deal with this now it will be a bite of cake, a plate of Pasta and on and on. -
I eat pickles all the time.

For the physically active sleevers...
BLERDgirl replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@InnerSurferGirl is right, Water activities are wonderful on the joints. I rarely if ever have any issues with my left knee and my right is much improved.Even my ortho is impressed with my increased range of motion. I can walk so much longer and farther than ever before. We went to the beach this summer and walking on sand, something I had come to hate, was so much easier. The thing that changed for me is I made exercise as much of a priority as going to work. Once I viewed it like that, it was no longer "If I have time." -
Another example of not fitting into the world
BLERDgirl replied to Sharon1964's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The worst thing for me was MRI's. I have a benign tumor that has to be monitored. It means bi-annual MRI's. When I was first diagnosed I just fit into the machine. Now and MRI isn't fun on a good day, so imagine just barely fitting into the machine. I then had to get pre-certs to go out of network to the one hospital with a super sized open MRI machine. I then had to pay the out of network co-pay. -
Why not mix protein powder with water?
BLERDgirl replied to BobbyD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always mix mine with water as well. I may add a bit of greek yogurt, but that's it. Milk was more carbs than protein and simply not worth it. Especially since I don't drink cow's milk. -
Isopure Protein Powder

There are a few unflavored protein powders. I use the Isopure as well. -
What else should I be doing now?
BLERDgirl replied to TinyTink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Adding to the chorus. Everything @@Dub and @InnerSurferGirl has said good, sound advice. One thing else I would add; don't get too caught up in the debbie downers or complication tales. While they are indeed legit concerns, they do not happen to everyone. I had an uneventful and nearly pain free surgical and recuperative process. I wish you well! -
Anyone else NOT on a pre-op diet?
BLERDgirl replied to mcp_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same as @@Sharon1964 . No pre-op diet at all. I think it's just different surgeons choose different protocols. My doctor also does the leak test using liquids not gas. As a result I had no gas pain post op at all. -

Walking/increasing exercise. It will make post-op recovery easier. -

I never felt jittery, but the nausea and heartburn can be managed by your doctor. Call him and get some prescriptions. -
Veterans: Question RE: bowel movements
BLERDgirl replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a little over a year out. I'm also vegetarian. Pre-op I went pretty much 2 hours after each meal. I went 2 -3 times a day regularly. Post-op my doctor started me on colace for the first 30days. I had my first BM on day 5. I had a BM every day til about maybe 6mths in. Now I probably have a BM anywhere from 1 - 3 times a day depending on what I eat. A few weeks ago without thinking I had steel cut oats for breakfast and a kale salad for lunch and diner. The next day was a truly "cleansing" experience. -
What was your "LaSt MeAl"?
BLERDgirl replied to Terra B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly don't remember what my last pre-surgery meal was. I didn't do any food funerals or farewell meals. I was already practicing my post-op eating and told I wouldn't have to give up any foods I currently ate. -
That information should have been included with your discharge instructions. Call your program to clarify if they didn't give you anything in writing.

I used to be a match the bra to the outfit gal. That got a little tricky as I gained. By the time I was sleeved I still had pretty bras, but not quite the assortment I used to have. I've gone from a 46DD and sometimes DDD to a 40C. I recently bought 3 regular bras and 2 sports bras and I just rotate and wash them out at night. It's a weird but good problem to have.

Might be a stupid question....
BLERDgirl replied to baileyj908's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you aren't getting straight answers. I would try this: Clarify with the office manager she sent the request in to your insurance co. Ask her if it was sent by fax or electronically and confirm the date she sent it. Then call the insurance company and inform them that the office manager at _____ hospital says she sent the info via ___ on Nov 3 or whatever dates she give you. Follow that up with asking what the typical turn around time for a pre cert of this sort usually is. -
Too big to fly?
BLERDgirl replied to charleywatson's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There's a very helpful facebook group called Flying While Fat. Check them out. Go online and look up whatever airline you are interested in and find out what their policy is for Customer's of size. Some require you buy an extra seat and refund you if the plan is not full and others just require you inform them when booking or at check in. You can google for plane sizes and it will tell you seat sizes. You can also pay to preboard or early board. That means you get to go in early and get your self settled in your seat before the regular boarding order. Sometimes that's more comfortable than having to worry about bumping people as you go up the aisle. I fit into and airplane seat without using a extender up to 300lbs. After that I fit if I could put the arm rest up but needed an extender. Last time I flew I was 320.
