How do we flag a member....
BLERDgirl replied to Mrs. Reid's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Down the bottom on the left of the quote/multiquote buttons if you hoover the button to report will show up. -
I'll be 2 months out on the 18th. I had my hydracoach bottle before my surgery and liked it. It's not the only Water bottle I use. (I'll post my collection a little later), but I find it helpful for lazy days hanging around the house because in those days I literally could just chill in front of the tv or computer. I didn't start using it again until hit 6 weeks.

@@Aribay1 - Here is a thread for Buddies & Mentors. It might be a good place to get the support you need. Your post don't feel like you are being honest with yourself, much less the posters replying to them. You made one post implying you were vegetarian, yet you wanted a KFC bowl. You made another talking about the Nature's Box snack boxes. Now you are saying you are 2 weeks in but slipped 2 days. Yet when asked about this you appear to want to down play your actions. Check out that thread and see if you can connect with someone. I wish you well.

STARVING! Liquid pre-op diet....
BLERDgirl replied to TNchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just become a mental thing. By week one post op I wanted ANYTHING but another drink of water or Protein Drink. I was discharged on full liquids so I could switch up and have Soup with protein added in, but I wanted to chew. I finally started doing things to occupy my mind when I got really crazy. First it was easy stuff like playing games on the iPad, then I realized I had to do other stuff. I started walking back and forth in my house. My doctor was really conservative and had me on no lifting and no driving until after my 2 week follow up and I was going stir crazy. I just sucked it up and held out. -
Inspiration Pics - my first 5k!

You go boy!!! -
You will eventually be able to eat a little faster, but the point is to slow down. Being a fast eater is not a good thing. It doesn't allow time for your brain tell your belly you are full. It's why we are overweight to begin with. However post op it is also important because you body is healing from having 85% of your stomach removed. Eating to fast can not only be painful, it can cause you to vomit which can be harmful to your still healing stomach. It also can cause dumping or stacking; both of which are painful and uncomfortable. Practicing slowing down my eating helped me to become more mindful of my food and made it easier to eat slowly post op. Remember, you are embarking on a new life style. Old you raced through your food. New you eats slowly and appreciates each bite.

Struggling with my 3 meals
BLERDgirl replied to Crystal88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called the hydracoach water bottle. I got it free from a promotion GE was having. They contacted me because I have myfitnesspal set to tweet when I check in. I have a variety of water bottles for different purposes. I have a Rubbermaid Shaker bottle. I got this one free as part of a bzzagent promotion. This one is good for the gym. In the morning I fill it with ice, Protein powder & almond milk. I drink half pre workout and save the other half for post workout. It keeps me away from the snack bar at the gym. Some of those smoothies look like glorified milkshakes. It also helps me to get my protein in early. -

Vitamins and other meds
BLERDgirl replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gummy vitamins are out because they are not complete. You can try other chewables, but basically you need to hang in there until you are 2 months out. -

You program should have given you a suggested menu plan. However this would be a good opportunity to develop new eating habits. I too used to be a grazer. I started using a food diary on myfitnesspal and doing weekly food prep. I even have a Water bottle with an alarm on it that beeps to remind me I need to drink. The good thing about myfitnesspal is you can do you diary first thing in the morning to make sure you're getting in all your calories and Protein. It's a bit of an eye opener to see the nutritional benefits in black and white. For me it was a good motivation factor. -
Help! Become sugar intolerant since having my band!
BLERDgirl replied to Eleni Gozadinos's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Look at the sugar sources. You body may allow sugar that comes with fruit (not juice) because along with the sugar, you also get a nice dose of Fiber. Fiber is nature's little pot scrubber so you may be able to have fruit and still lose. I don't do fake sugars since I'm allergic to most of them. Being sugar free or low sugar may not be a bad thing. -
Depends on your doctor. I was never on any pain meds. I had no pain. At my 2 week post op my doctor cleared me to drive. I've heard of some people not being cleared until 6 weeks.

It's concerning because you at 2 weeks you are attempting to make the lifestyle changes you need. You aren't doing food prep, you went out without foods safe to eat or a Water bottle and it sounds like you then decided to not buy water while out. The pureed stage is only 2 weeks. It's concerning that you could not delay gratification for 2 weeks. Plaintain chips may not be "that high in carbs" but it has no Protein. Protein is what is the key to losing. Please rethink your choices. Call your nutritionist and brainstorm.
-
Here's the biggest key; you titled this thread "diet cheating". I'm not dieting. A diet is temporary. I'm in this for the life style change. I want to learn to properly manage my eating and portion control. I didn't go through months of preop testing and surgery for nothing. I want it to be the start of a new leaf on life. I'd be more concerned that it appear that except for the Peanut Butter you are eating junk food. You want mashed potatoes? Boil your own. You then control the sodium and other artificial ingredients in it. You have an opportunity to make it healthy. I have no idea what canned meats are, but you probably could eat that if it's cooked soft enough and you're taking your time to chew it slowly. My advice would be to talk to your nutritionist about your cravings and come up with a plan to address those cravings safely. It is possible to out grow your sleeve. I was in a support group with a woman who did and she was trying to convince the insurance co to do a revision to a bypass. I don't think you want to do that.

Turmeric for bone/joint pain?
BLERDgirl replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Tumeric is an anti-inflammatory. Pre-surgery I used to make a tumeric smoothie with orange, tsp of tumeric greek yogurt and almond milk. I can't attest to whether it worked or not. I also started taking Water aerobics as well. If anything the change in diet & exercise both played a part. Either way, it's a great spice. If you are looking to cut down on adding salt, it's a nice one to add to the arsenal. -
Approval notification letter, unsure of what it means.
BLERDgirl replied to mommyoftwogirls's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes they approved you It's likely that they received the letter at the same time you did. However typically the doctor will not call unless they get a rejection because then you need to have a discussion about whether or not you want to appeal and what the requirements would be. Congratulations! -
Look for those that say liquid Protein. These are usually Clear liquids that can be mixed with Water or juice. Check with you medical team on sugar and sodium content for allowable beverages.

I am 6 weeks out and stalled!
BLERDgirl replied to thintrappedinafatbody42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is adjusting to the next phase of eating. Of course we see big drops between surgery and those 1st 2 weeks post-op. At my 2 week appt I had lost 24lbs and I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet! But now we're adding purees, some of us are adding soft foods. It's more for the body to grab and hold onto. Also most of us aren't sore so eating is easier. Between my 2nd & 6th week I only lost 6lbs. I'm not upset because it's still a loss. I recommend not becoming scale obsessed. It will make you CRAZY. Personally I don't go near a scale until I see the doctor. If you must weigh, limit it to once a week and try and make it the same time every week. -
My doctor gave me a handbook. Weeks 1 -2 full liquids, Weeks 3-4 pureed foods, Weeks 5-7 soft, after that regular food. calories for week 0 - 7: 600 -800 for females. After that between 800 -1000 although my nutritionist wants me to stay closer to 800. You should also be drinking between 48 - 64 ounces of Water and beginning to exercise, even if it's just walking. If the pureed was leaving you still hungry you should have called your doctor or nutritionist. If you feel like you are gaining I'd give the nutritionist a call and review what you are eating,

It's a bit of an oxymoron to call them snacks when your meals are so small. At this point 3 meals and 2 snacks often looks the same as 5 or 6 small meals. I'm just trying to get in 60+gms of protein, 48 -64 ounces of water each day and keep my carbs, fats, sugar & sodium low.

I just want to go to the bathroom! UGH
BLERDgirl replied to kikicoates78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A lot of doctors don't allow caffeine. I went 30 days without. What helped me was exercise. Now that I'm back to working out, I am right as rain. -
There is not right or wrong here. I will say that weighing yourself too much will make you crazy. I don't weigh myself until I go to the doctor's. However if you need more than that no more than once a week. Anytime you choose but try to keep to that schedule and weigh yourself the same time on the same scale each week.

Just had sleeve surgery on 11 15 2014
BLERDgirl replied to naje78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The drain is a tube with a small bulb on the end that used to remove pus, blood or other fluids from a wound. They are commonly placed by surgeon or interventional radiologists. It's inserted once you are under so you don't feel it. it's not uncomfortable and it shouldn't hurt coming out. You just feel it running through your insides when they pull it out. While you are in the hospital the nurse will check and empty it several times a day. Not every doctor uses a drain and it doesn't hurt. I had a drain because I had a previous history of developing a really large abscess after surgery I had 10 years ago. Other than that I had an incredibly easy surgery. I was up and walking in recovery. I woke up and had to pee. Like really, really bad. They asked if I wanted a bed pan or could I walk and I was already climbing off the bed. The wheeled me to the bathroom and I practically ran inside. Since I was up and moving I didn't have compression stockings or those leg wrap things. I had no pain at all. It was a little sore, but I didn't need any meds for it. My doctor puts all his patients on stool softners for 30 days post op and prilosec for 90 days post op so I haven't have any issues with constipation or heart burn. I was in the hospital for 2 days, but honestly I was ready to go after 1. I only had to do clear liquids the day before surgery but was encouraged to reduce my calories and increase my Protein for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. In the hospital I was given liquid Protein, Jello ( which I don't eat & sent back) and tea. I was discharged on full liquids and put on soft foods after 2 weeks. At 6 weeks I was told I could eat whatever I can tolerate. Don't panic, not everyone has pain. You've made the right decision. -
SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
BLERDgirl replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor errs on the side of caution and prescribe prophylactic prilosec for his patients for the first 90 days post op. I haven't had any problems with heart burn or reflux. I wouldn't take anything, even OTC meds without checking with the doctor first. -
I was only on Clear liquids the day before surgery. I was sent home on full liquids and went from that to soft foods. @#9grammy - It also sound like you are weighing yourself too frequently. You should weigh yourself no more than once a week. Personally I don't weigh myself at all It's too much extra stress to add to the mix. Instead I focus on getting in my Protein and Water and exercising regularly. I was last weighed on 11/3. I won't weigh myself again until I see the doctor in December.
