  1. I would definitely give MFP another go. My suggestion is to use it as a guide. Most days I fill it in for the day first thing in the morning. It helps me stay on track. In the evening I review and adjust what I did or didn't eat, add in my exercise and then close it out. I don't have it set to send me many notifications because I don't need it blowing up my phone but I can tell if I'm gaining/losing by looking at MFP. The scale typically just verifies it for me and gives me a definitive number.

    Eating slowly..

My rule is no more than 1/4 of the spoon can have food on it. I then chew until the food dissolves in my mouth. I put the spoon down after each bite. Every so often I just stop and take a few breaths before resuming. I practiced pre-op and I just make myself remember this. I had one bad experience in the hospital when I was sucking on ice chips. I put a larger piece in my mouth and vomited everything. I promised myself that would not happen again so I always take my time.

My journey seems out of sink?

Don't compare yourself with anyone else. Some people have dramatic weight loses and some do a gradual, slow, but steady weight loss. It's barely been 2 weeks. Relax. Your doctor will tell you if you are doing something wrong.

    Other People's Opinion

Let me introduce you to the concept of not giving a darn and the power of telling people not to police your food. I'm truly serious. People who know me wouldn't dare to step to me like that. Those that don't are politely told I am grown and don't need to be told what I can and cannot eat.

    Fruit

I'm 8 weeks out. I was discharged on full liquids. Some days I would add peaches to protein drink. Once I was on soft foods I would puree peaches or pineapple chunks. I am now allowed to eat whatever I can tolerate. So far I've hand peaches, pineapples, grapes, oranges and honey dew. Mind you it's always a quarter cup or less and i can't eat more than half an orange at a time, but I'm getting them in.
  6. I've had it easy from day 1 as well. No issues at all. In fact I quickly went back to logging on Myfitnesspal in order to make sure I was eating correctly. I think it's good to post positive experiences. So many threads have people talking about pain and nausea, you need these types of post to balance things out.
  7. Coffee even as little as 2 ounces works. Prunes Organic apple cider vinegar used to work pre-surgery, 1 tsp a day. I prefer Braggs. I like the taste so I used to shoot it back, or add it to my water. If you don't you can mix it with apple juice. There's also a tea called Smooth Move. Beans are a good source of fiber and will keep you regular. Try adding some black beans or chickpeas to your salad.

    I'm confused....BCBS of MI

You can typically look up the info online. I have Keystone 65 which is a Blue and I can easily look up coverage information online.

    Clothes after surgery

Go for skirts with elastic waist, wrap shirts and dresses. Shirts that can be belted. Buy only 1 or 2 pairs of pants at a time in neutral colors. I think my closet spans like 4 -5 different sizes so I'm hoping I will make it to the Spring at least. I have a few expensive suits I'll probably take to the tailor. Some items I may end up selling. @@lastingdreams - what's the name of the FB group?
  11. Yep puppy pad for the surgery and they'll likely put you in maternity pads after. Just think of it this way; they have already seen every part of you. In the grand scheme of things this is just a little hiccup.

    Tummy tucks

Typically any special care you have to take with the excess skin. Does it cause rashes, sweating, infections, etc... Your doctor can give better guidance as to what the insurance company requires.

    Feeling blue

Maybe walk it back to liquids until you talk to your doctor. Are you on full liquids?

    Gum

I was told "NO" because it can bring extra gas into your system. That and drinking straws were not recommended.
  15. I have bladder frequency. Before surgery it was really bad so I never drank more than 4 - 6 glasses of Water a day or else I was up all night running to the bathroom and sometimes didn't make it. (YUCK! ) Oddly enough it hasn't been much of a problem post op. I'm mostly sleeping through the night. Maybe getting up once. I keep my water intake on the low end of what is acceptable, 48 oz. My doctor said as the weight comes off and relieves the constant pressure on my bladder there's a chance I may no longer have this problem at all.

    Cooking

I primarily use olive oil & coconut oil. Occasionally I use peanut oil. I use butter but very sparingly

    How do you access

On iPhone go to the menu in the upper left corner. it will be the 3 squiggly white lines. Click that, there will be a list of options. Messages is the 4th one from the bottom.

    constipation

I would try 2 and see if that works first. Maybe try a small amount of prune juice like 1 ounce as well.

    Winter has HIT

Always have a back up plan. I like in the city but my street is small. Sometimes the streets are passable if the snow is heavy , or even worse the plow comes through but ends up blocking my car in. I don't like working out at home, but I have hand weights here at home. I will use On Demand videos. I also have a weighted hula hoop and an exercise ball. In a bind I can get in a workout.

It's okay for her to be mad. Send her home with a kiss and a "thank you". You'll be fine.

    What to do?

LOL you remind me of the nurse I had in the hospital. He told me I was his easiest patient because some WLS patient's come in "acting like they just had open heart surgery."
  22. @@Julie norton I would think 8 years out you're more than safe to drink coffee. It was my understanding it was just for those a year and under post op.

    Tummy tucks

My assumption is you have to prove medical necessity. I used to work with children with cleft lip and palettes. We always had to document why nose jobs were necessary in order to get insurance to pay for it. I'd say we were successful 99% of the time and even then we could get payment on appeal.
  24. You should choose what you think is best for you, but I will say this. If you feel you have replaced your soda addiction for a coffee addiction, try to wean yourself off now. You will need to drink a lot of water post op. Needing a cup of coffee may fill you up and impede you water intake. My doctor has me on a prophylactic daily dose of generic prilosec, but I don't have a history of heart burn/reflux and I haven't had any issues with it post op.

    What to do?

Stock up the fridge and send mommy home. You may not be cleared to drive but you can go out for a walk and you should be able to get around your house by yourself. I am single and live alone. I was bored silly after 1 week. Taking a daily walk outside was the highlight of my day. It was easy. If you aren't experiencing any pain or complications you'll be fine.
