Surgery 12/1 and having wisdom tooth problems
BLERDgirl replied to SleevedstylistCO's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dental issues can be serious. If you have an infected tooth your surgery may be postponed. Call and speak with your doctor ASAP to see if they can do something to prevent surgery being postponed. -
What have I done to myself?

Stalling is normal, especially at lower BMI's. Have you had labs recently? I would get the dizziness check out. For now put the scale away. -
3 times 10 does not equal 70!
BLERDgirl replied to Sharon1964's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are they allowing protien bars? Do they allow planned Snacks? You might be able to hit those goals with 2 snacks a day but I can't see how to do this without snacks or at least 1 shake a day. Do they consider powdered milk a supplement? (seriously another poster said their doc didn't allow supplements, but powdered milk was okay. That's splitting hairs to me, but whatev) -
I am vegetarian, most of my Protein comes from plant based sources and Beans. I eat plenty of fresh veg as well. In the all liquid stage I would add spinach to my Protein shakes. I'm 14mths out and eat raw veg nearly every day. I also do whole grains in small amounts. I avg 100 gms of protein each day but I try to eat a balanced diet.

Same old issues
BLERDgirl replied to TheOnlyDuchess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have some fat. A hard boiled egg, a tbsp of nut butter, guacamole with some veg for dipping, 1 ounce of nuts, etc.... Plan an evening snack that fits into your eating plan. Look for good Protein and healthy fat. @@tdhaddox says she found a recipe on Pinterest for Parmesan wonton crackers. Leave some room on your daily menu for that evening snack. Try to balance out those carbs. I don't really run from carbs but I stay away from the processed carbs like white bread, crackers, white rice, etc.... -
In need of some crunch?
BLERDgirl replied to tdhaddox's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I understand. I was never a big chip eater so I don't really miss them. -
I drink plenty of water and it does not help. May for you not me. That's not my point. It's not water alone that does it, but water does help.

It is normal to be nervous before any medical procedure or surgery. Losing sleep early on in the process is a little concerning. You don't want it to progress into full blown anxiety. Just be aware of it and if need be enlist the help of a therapist.

In need of some crunch?
BLERDgirl replied to tdhaddox's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I do cucumber slices with a splash of hot sauce & lime. Crunchy & spicy; my favorite things. A ½ cup is 4 or 5 calories and I get some veg in to stay regular. -
So So Doctor's Appointment (A little disappointed)
BLERDgirl replied to Essence46's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One of the reasons why I still log my food is to stay on track. I make it a point to hit fluid and protein goals every day. The one thing I have started doing is using the Isopure drinks. 40gms of protein in 20 ounce. I divide it into 3 parts and add it to my water bottles. I make it a point to get in 24 ounces morning, noon and night. I carry my water bottle everywhere and sip anytime I am not eating. That also makes it easier to get the rest of my protein from food. All I have to do is make good food choices and I easily hit my goals. It sounds like you have a plan, just stick to it. -
Water is key. I am very regular, anywhere from 1 -3 times a day. I find that on the days when I get plenty of fiber and water I tend to go more.

I'm expecting the group fitness classes at my gym to be canceled so I'm planning on taking a nice walk, maybe a bike ride if it's not too cold.

Project Runway, Fashion, and Plus Sizes

Not if Heidi likes you. Let us not forget season 9 winner Anya. A former beauty queen who could barely sew. That's when I finally accepted the fact the PR is little more than a game show/reality tv competition. For actual talent I watch Face Off. I am amazed at the skill they show. -
Recommendation for hummus
BLERDgirl replied to gsusser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just checked this link. The ingredients are chickpea flour, sea salt, tahini, garlic & lemon flavorings, carrageen and citric acid. So pretty much what I stated above. I've never tried it, but the ingredients aren't horrible if you aren't against eating foods with carregeen in it. Price wise it's a rip off considering a can of chickpeas cost like $.69. -
Recommendation for hummus
BLERDgirl replied to gsusser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Sabra as well. However if you're going to mix something basic hummus is only 3 or 4 ingredients. One can of chickpeas, rinsed & drained, 1 tsp of tahini, glove of garlic, olive oil. Blend everything in a food processor, salt, pepper to taste. Some add a splash of lemon. You can add roasted peppers, cilantro, etc...To store put in a container and cover the top with olive oil. The powder stuff is probably powdered chickpeas with a bunch of fillers. -
Is bariatric surgery right for me?
BLERDgirl replied to sjs1971's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Whether or not you choose to have surgery, I would recommend seeing a therapist to deal with binge eating. In the event you do have the surgery having therapeutic support would be an asset. -
Congrats!!! *throws confetti*

Protein intake vs. being full?
BLERDgirl replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listening to your body. Many of us got where we needed surgery by pushing past that fll feeling. If you are concerned about hitting your protein, switch things up. Add a bit greek yogurt to your Protein shake. *Flavor your Water with a Protein Drink like Isopure NoCarb or Syntrax Nectars. Plan for 3 meals and 2 Snacks instead of 3 big meals. It will allow you to get in more protein without pushing your limits. *Isopure Nocarb drinks are 40gms of protein for 20 ounces. I divide the bottle into 3 parts. I use my 24 ounce water bottle. I try to drink 24 ounces 3 times a day. I add the Isopure and carry my bottles everywhere and sip whenever I am not eating. It makes meeting protein & Fluid goals easy. -
Where to buy isopure?
BLERDgirl replied to susan1349's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty much everywhere. Brick and mortar you can buy them at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe, online you can buy directly from Isopure or any of the retailers listed above. Just google Isopure NoCarb drinks. GNC & Vitamin Shoppe have frequent shopper cards that may office discounts and sales alerts. I have both. I find it easier to buy by the case and have them delivered since the glass bottles are heavy. -
That may be your full cue. I burp when I'm full. Sometimes really loudly. Grazing was an issue for me as well. It's one of the reasons why I had to plan at least an afternoon snack. I also find that cucumbers help me if I get the late night munchies. I like them with a dash of lime & sriracha so it's never more then 4 or 5 calories a portion. Early on a cup of herbal tea would help.

I don't really overly concern myself with carbs. As long as the source of the carbs is good ( as in not processed or overly refined foods), I don't worry. I tend to stick to all natural bars like KIND , Larabar and Cliff bars. It hasn't negatively effected my weight loss in the least.

Weight loss surgery and mental health.
BLERDgirl replied to Eumoirous's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Go see the surgeon. Be upfront about your mental health issues. If you are approved make sure to have supports in place in case the rapid weight loss makes causes a spike in your MH issues. This could be anything from increased therapy sessions to a change in meds. -
My Gastric Sleeve Nightmare.... I still haven't woken up!
BLERDgirl replied to tjones181's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The Mayo clinic is where you want to go. I have a friend who has something called Dysautonomia. It is also rare and came seemingly out of the blue. She is not a bariatric patient. She has some of the muscular weakness and autoimmune issues you mention. This is well beyond my scope of knowledge but from all that I have heard, Mayo is the best place to find a solution. -
