  1. I wasn't required to lose or on any specific pre-op diet other than being told to "cut back". From the time I started seeing the doctor I went down then up. On the day of surgery I had lost 2 lbs from my last doctor's appt, which was also my highest weight.

    "Stop" signs

I stop at the first sign of that belly tightening , full feeling. I'm sure I could get another bite or 2 in. I almost always end up with like 2 bites left on the place. However, I'm trying to train myself to stop at the first signs of feeling full so I make myself stop instead of pushing for those last 2 bites.

    Coconut Flour

Fat from coconut is a good fat. I haven't used it since surgery, but I use that and a bunch of non traditional flours. I prefer buying then from Bob's Red Mill because they don't use GMO's.
  4. Simply say, "It's my choice, I've done my research and I know what I'm doing." I even go further and let them know I am no longer discussing this. Then anytime they try and bring it up I remind them that I am no longer discussing it. Simply put, I shut it down every time. Eventually they get the hint.

    Protein powder help

Lactose is the milk sugar. If it's an intolerance and not an allergy you may be fine. I would only buy a small amount and test it out first to make sure.

7 mos out, failing horribly... ????

Please don't put yourself on hold waiting for your husband's insurance approval. The thing with us food addicts is once we get off track, the harder it is to get back on track. That's how we end up yo-yo dieting. Sometimes we need to tell the people in our lives in the most straight to the point way possible. Tell him he's sabotaging you. You can't exercise away a bad diet. Why not google new go to health foods? Try to expand your repertoire.

    Cravings

Do you food plan at all? Thing of the things you crave the most. They try and come up with ways to get that taste without going off your food plain. Did you doctor give you a suggested food plan at all? This is a lifestyle change. You can't keep resetting the start date. You have to make a commitment to yourself. If there are circumstances you can't handle right now then maybe remove yourself from them.
  12. Ironically while my hair is fine, my fingernails are horrible. They only grow out a little bit then chip & split. I hate fake nails & overlays but I may do that to see if I can grow them out past the splitting point.

    Esophogus/chest pain, tightness

I was told that stacking can occur if we eat too fast or drink too soon after eating. It's that stuck in the throat feeling you're describing. Glad you called the doctor. Keep us posted as to what happens. Hope you feel better soon!

    Esophogus/chest pain, tightness

There will be a resident on call. The resident may instruct you to go to the ER, but you can always call your doctor. FYI - It sounds like stacking. What did you eat before that feeling occurred?

    Should I get the sleeve

I did my own research by googling the various procedure available. My doctor also requires people to attend a seminar prior to even meeting with the surgeon. In fact he will not give you an appointment until you do. I sat up front, took notes and asked questions. However, as mentioned the stats are pretty low on leaks.

    Why Gastric Sleeve?

Lap Band - I looked at it and wasn't happy with what I saw in terms of chances for complications. Also I found out it was not idea for those who needed to use large amounts of weight. I was over 400lbs when I had my surgery. Sleeve - Easier on the body, slower weight loss, fewer complications. Seemed the best option for me. Byass - I'll admit while I didn't rule this out, I wasn't actually interested in this procedure. I wasn't too keen on the rewiring of my plumbing so to speak. I kept an ope mind when speaking with the surgeon, but after doing my research and attending the seminar necessary before I could even schedule an appointment with the surgeon, I was really hoping he would agree with my choice of the sleeve.
  18. @@Lauriep - Congrats! I'm happy all went well. I had an easy time of it as well. Don't worry it will slow down a bit. Those early numbers are usually high. I lost 26 lbs in my first 2 weeks. At my 6 week check up I had only lost 6lbs. I expect the rest will be a slow, but hopefully steady weight loss like that.

    Exercise and calorie intake

I think it's because the high Protein diets send out bodies into ketosis. Also most of us will be back to eating above 1200 within a year so it's a temporary thing designed to make out bodies burn out fat storages.

    Exercise and calorie intake

Myfitnesspal is set up for you to eat back your calories. If you do an intense workout you will be hungry. Yesterday I burned 1,126 calories. It was a busy day. I ate 1,087 calories. I was stomach rumbling hungry, something my belly rarely does.

    Bariatric Vitamins and Nausea

    My doc said calcium citrate +D. I take multi 2xs s day, calcium 2xs a day, extra D 2xs & I take a sublingual B12 1x a day. I always take them after I've eaten
  22. I've used biotin for over a year with no side effects.
  23. Different like what? I hear people saying like didn't expect to feel hungry. I did early on and still do, but when my belly feels full I stop.

    Want to change surgeon

Call him back and remind him of you dealine issues. He may not have made a note of that. Switching to a new doctor will only delay things further. If his schedule is full, ask him if he has a colleague who could do the procedure based on his notes. Keep in mind some ins companies will take as much as 2 weeks to respond and that may push things close to the holidays. More importantly make sure you calmly explain the insurance issue.
