    Damn it all to hell!

This may not be a bad thing. I once had to file an appeal with my insurance company (over a medication I think I needed). They sent me a hearing date and everything. The day before the hearing I received a call saying the hearing was canceled. I was pissed! The day after that I received a letter saying they had approved the medication after all. Not sure why although my doctor seems to think that so many people rarely challenge them that my determination is writing a letter and filing the appeal made them change their minds. I hope it all works out for you!
  2. Are you home or in the hospital? It's probably gas, but if you're worried ask (or call) your doctors.

    Is this weird

I'm not a daily or even weekly weigher. At 2 weeks post op I had lost 26lbs, at 6 weeks another 6. My last weigh in was on 11/3 so I'm due for an update, but my clothing feels loser and my seatbelt is less of a struggle. At my last doctor's appointment I was told I was doing well so we'll see. I don't go back to the doctor's until 12/19.
  4. I like living alone. I had a visiting nurse 2x's a week for the first 2 weeks checking on my incisions. I was able to clean the litter box and feed my cat.

    Psychological help?

You are the best judge of this. Some of us deal just fine. We do the work and adjust pretty well. For some food addictions and bad habits sabotage our WLS. I've seen people eating things they shouldn't days after surgery. Some people are okay with the support they can get here on the forums, others needs to attend in person support group meetings or OA, and yes others need counseling with psychologist or therapist. In the end it takes self examination and being honest enough with yourself to admit you need help and seek out what type of help is best for you.

    Knee self rehab ideas

Water, water, water. I had a menicus repair in 2008 and as a result developed osteoarthritis. I started taking water aerobics a few years ago and it's made all the difference in the world. My range of motion has increased and my ortho says as long as I continue in this direction I don't have to worry about knee replacement surgery.

    Sense of hunger?

I get hunger pains on occasion, but most of the time I am not hungry. I had more hunger pains in the first 2 weeks when I was on all liquids than I do now.
  8. Not really. I was able to care for myself from the day I went home. The only assistance I needed was putting the trash out the first week I was home because I'd done extra house cleaning and prep before going into surgery so the trash that week was heavier than usual. My sister came over before work and put my garbage out. Other than that, I was fine.

    IVC FILTER

You won't know a thing you're asleep the whole time. I can't even see where they inserted mine. They went in my groin though My doctor does them as a precaution for high BMI's. I had a vascular ultrasound of my legs before the surgery. Both legs were clear of blockages and I had no history of clots. When you met with the vascular surgeon he will walk you through all of this. I have to reiterate, I had a high BMI and my weight was over 400lbs day of sugery. My surgery literally could not have been easier. No pain, no cramps, no gas, no nausea, no constipation. NOTHING. I vomited once the day after surgery because I swallowed a piece of ice too large for my new tummy. I have tolerated every liquid and food since. I am steadily losing even though I am due for a weight check soon. I know more people post about their horror stories, but honestly there are just as many of us that had an easy time of it.

    constipation! !

You could try a bit of prune juice instead

    IVC FILTER

Don't be nervous. It's a super easy procedure. I had mine done the day before surgery. Was in and out in a few hours with no pain or discomfort. It's a good precaution designed to make your WLS safer.
  12. I wear a medical alert bracelet because I have life threatening allergies, some of which result in anaphylaxis. I can't afford to hope an EMT has the time or what with all to look in my pocketbook and find my iPhone and then look up my medical info. I've got minutes to spare. I'll stick with the medic alert jewelry.

    Following the rules

In a way you are thinking about what you eat. You just aren't overthinking it. You have to have some sort of plan. Your plan is simple, get the protein in early, drink water through the day. make healthy food choices. It really doesn't have to be more detailed than that.

    OVER 300 lbs

@melliegates - Colace is a stool softener. Senekot is a laxative. Things like metamucil and benefiber are fiber based additives designed to help things along. I never had trouble with constipation pre-op. In fact I would go 2-3 times a day in average. Post-op I go 1- 2 times a day. There are lots of things you can try such as prunes, prune juice, herbal teas like Smooth Move or Get Regular, a tsp of epsom salt in grapefruit juice are all natural ways to go. In addition to the meatmucil or benefiber type of products. It really becomes a matter of trial and error. I also find a good vigorous workout gets things flowing for me. After my pre-gym protein shake, a glass of water and a good workout, I typically need to go 30 mins after.

    Following the rules

"following the rules" is not hard for me. Mindless eating is what allowed me to become overweight in the first place. Once my food allergies became an ongoing problem, planning my food became a matter of common sense if I wanted to stay alive. Perhaps come up with 2 or 3 typical food days that fit your lifestyle. I have a few I know I can do by heart. I don't mind doing a shake a day. I use it pre-workout. This way I have the energy to go hard at the gym and I get at least half my Protein needs before noon.

Help me please! I continue to gain weight!

First of all, sorry for your loss. Have you found a grief support group? Check your local yellow pages. Try reducing your coffee intake to 1 cup a day. I don't think it's the amount of calories you are taking in, just how your body reacts to the additional calories you are giving it. Lastly my rule of thumb has always been don't bring anything in the house I can't eat without bingeing. Don't let those fudgesicles in the house.

    OVER 300 lbs

Are you taking colace? My doctor had me on it for the first month post-op. That and drinking plenty of water kept me regular.
  18. So what's next? Will they remove the tumor and treat with meds?

    "Stop" signs

I often have 1 or 2 bites left when I get to this stage. I am forcing myself to be okay with leaving those 2 bites.

    OVER 300 lbs

Count me in. At my heaviest at my last pre-op appt at 414lbs, day of surgery 412. Surgery was a breeze, no pain, no nausea, no gas. Last weight check on 10/3 I was down 32lbs and doing well.
  21. BLERDgirl

    Nausea

    I never had any nausea
  22. Every doctor is different, but mine didn't say anything like that and my BM's were regular, no cramps and definitely not watery.
  23. No that's not normal. Loose stools can lead to dehydration. Call your doctor,
  24. I had been taking water aerobics for the past 3 years. It enabled me to walk without limping or using a cane. It kept my knees healthy and my BP normal. I also think its part of why I had such an easy time in the hospital. I also tried pilates a few times and would occasionally use the treadmill and other machines at my gym. I've had the gym membership for as long as I've been taking water aerobics.
  25. Checking in. I'm still a relative newbie. I was sleeved on 9/18. At my 2 week check up I was down 26lbs, at my 6 week follow up I was down another 6 making it 32lbs total. I only weight myself at my doctor's and my next appt isn't until 12/19. Surgery was a breeze, no pain, no gas, no complications. I feel great, working out 4 days a week and keeping a food diary at My fitnesspal. Hope to confine to see the scale moving down.
